About the property

Totally Adorable 800 sq. ft. Chalet with 2 bedrooms & 1 bath - Sleeps 6

2 bedrooms, 1 bath, sleeps 6

The '46er', named for those who have summited the highest peaks in the Adirondacks, keeps with the tradition of the 46ers.

She is well-equipped, well-oriented in a quiet and private setting, totally surrounded by beauty, begging you to stay when you visit.

Unlike just another impersonal rental property, you'll find the warmth and comfort of home, classy yet cozy.

The chalet is completely remodeled with hardwood floors, skylights, and a new fireplace insert.

It is nestled on a hillside facing Whiteface and the Stephenson Range. Whiteface Olympic Mountain, which offers the ultimate in winter sports, is only two miles away. It was voted the Best Ski Center in the North East! In the warmer months, Whiteface offers mountain biking, gondola rides and special events. Also within a few miles are world-class mountain biking trails accessed from Hardy Road, as well as the Wilmington Flume Trails. Don't miss enjoying a lovely afternoon on Lake Everest, canoeing or swimming at the town beach or visiting the amazing Wilmington Flume. If you love fly-fishing, you can't find a better location. Less than a mile away is the West Branch of the Ausable River which is famous for it's wily trout!! Wilmington is, indeed, an outdoor enthusiasts mecca!

Lake Placid Village, with all that it has to offer, is just ten beautiful miles away on one of the most picturesque roads in the Adirondacks. Here you can enjoy shopping, dining, arts and crafts, museums, The Olympic Center, golf, horse shows, movies, festivals, nightlife ... or 'in short' - the hustle and bustle of this special and lively Olympic Village.

When your spirit moves you beyond the chalet, so much awaits!

First you'll encounter the large, wrap around deck which sports Adirondacks chairs and an outdoor dining area with sometimes chickadees that will eat from your hand. You may not get much further for awhile.

The hot tub invites you for that romantic or relaxing dip after a day on the mountain. In the evening, you can sit by the stone ringed campfire and share the stories of your day. It is truly a magical place to be!

While the chalet can sleep a total of 6, please keep in mind that the living space is a total of 800 sq. ft. so guests may find it more comfortable with 4 or fewer folks.

About Susan and Bill Harral

We moved to the Adirondacks in 2010 and love living here year-round! The photo shows us on our wedding day in 2011 atop Little Whiteface Mountain just after the ceremony. It was a lovely June day! The beautiful mountains for hiking and peaceful lakes for paddling drew us here. Prior to our move, we were living just outside Harrisburg, PA where Bill grew up. Susan grew up in Roanoke, VA and spent her summers on Smith Mountain Lake where her appreciation for nature bloomed and grew. We enjoy sharing the area with our 4 children and 8 grandchildren who come to visit occasionally.

Susan and Bill Harral purchased this chalet in 2017

Why Susan and Bill Harral chose Wilmington

We fell in love with this adorable and cozy chalet. We decided that if we felt so comfortable here then others would too. The location is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts, ready for adventure!! Perfectly situated on a nicely wooded lot near the top of a quiet road, it's truly an idyllic setting. We live only 20 minutes away so are close by for any needs which may arise at the chalet!

What makes this chalet unique

The chalet is unique in that it is comfortable for a family or group of friends, yet very intimate for a couple or a single person. It's a great place just "to be" whether it's sitting up in the loft in the comfy, oversized chair reading a good book while listening to the gentle rain on the skylight or in the living room snuggled on the couch by the fireplace warming your soul. By the way, your firewood is cut, stacked and ready to go at the 46er! There is always a soft throw or a blanket at hand to wrap yourself in and many pillows to arrange for that "just perfect fit". In the winter, you'll appreciate the hot water radiators for warming up your towels or drying wet mittens and socks. The kitchen is well-equipped, making it easy to prepare a simple breakfast or a Thanksgiving feast.

We invite you to come and see for yourself how special a place this is and it's our hope that you will want to come back again and again!!

Cozy and Excellently Outfitted Escape!

  • 5 of 5

The 46er is one of our favorite places we’re stayed! The decor and furnishings are inviting and comfy. You feel like you’re visiting good friends, not staying in a stranger’s house. Susan & Bill left us a note and some treats to welcome us which we really appreciated. It got down to -30 while we were there and didn’t have any issues keeping it nice and warm inside. The hotub worked great in the frigid temps as well! Overall probably the best outfitted rental we’ve stayed at. Plenty of extra towels, kitchen tools, even some games we actually wanted to play :) Juniper Hill Rd is steep but the snow was packed down and covered with cinders so we didn’t have any issue getting up the hill in our RAV4. It’s the perfect size for a couple or two, or a family with two small kids. Really can’t say enough good things about The 46er! We hope to be back soon!!!

Lovely, snug A frame in the woods with a hot tub.

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I and our two kids had a lovely, cozy stay in this snug, warm A frame. Has everything you need, plus a fire place and hot tub. We took a few soaks at is snowed (in April). Very pleasant light in the house and lovely to be in the woods. Very clean and well equipped. The kids slept well up in the loft bed room above the kitchen. In the winter you can just see Whiteface. The road can be a little tricky in the snow but they seem to plow regularly. There are other residences and A frames along the road but the house occupies a big lot and feels private. Close to downhill and cross country skiing, hiking, walks, and the restaurants and shops and Olympic facilities of Lake Placid.

Cozy and comfortable; perfect for skiing Whiteface!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our short stay at the 46er Chalet, cozy and just right for the five of us. Our girls loved sleeping in the loft (we brought an air mattress that fit perfectly so all three could have a memorable and unique sleepover experience). Fireplace, shower, and hot tub all worked like a charm and the hosts left us a few little Adirondack treats for an extra personal touch. If you are skiing Whiteface, you'll be there in less than five minutes by car and couldn't ask for a better place to hang and relax afterwards.

Sweet, cozy spot. Perfect for skiing Whiteface.

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four stayed here to ski Whiteface, and it was exactly what we were hoping it would be. Just five minutes from the mountain, cozy and warm, and the hot tub for apres ski made it ideal. Clean, cute, sunny, great deck, grill, hot tub, fireplace... it's a perfect little place to come home to after a long day of skiing. Thanks for sharing it with us!
