About the host

Host profile image
Matthew is a NH native. Susan grew up in GA. We live nearby in Pittsburg. Matthew spends his life outside for work (snowplowing, firewood, property caretaker, groomer) and pleasure (hunting, snowmobiling, skiing, hiking). Susan is a life coach and writer. She takes inspiration from the natural world and loves to hike, walk, garden, and meditate. Her favorite is yoga on the deck looking out at the lake!
For fifty years, our family has owned an old hunting camp in Pittsburg. Matthew has spent his entire life going to Pittsburg year-round for hunting, snowmobiling, hanging out, and getting away.

Why they chose this property

(Pittsburg, not Clarkesville)
We absolutely love Lake Francis! It is a 2,000 acre lake that is over 5 miles long, east to west. There is much undeveloped land around the lake. Most of the noisiness while here is the loons! Wildlife sightings are frequent. Lake Francis is known for excellent fishing.
Thinking ahead to our retirement years (which are a long way off), we decided we wanted something closer to town than our remote camp is, so we bought this house in 2015. We spent the first two summers doing repairs and getting settled. After renting it out to friends for the last two summers, we saw that people just loved it! Now those same renters come back each year!
When we bought it, we planned to take it down immediately and build new, but we felt the old house still had some life left in her. It was built in 1940. We have rebuilt it for summer use only. Loon's Ledge is not fancy but she's pure heaven!

What makes this property unique

Proximity to the lake.
Fishing. Boating. Canoeing. Kayaking. Swimming.
Miles of hiking trails nearby, especially the Cohos Trail.
