Beautiful western views
Why Bob Ashmun chose Glen Arbor
The house is located in the center of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, this is one of the most beautiful areas in the country with its 65 miles of undeveloped sand beaches, lined by towering dunes and bluffs, numerous small clear lakes, lush thick forests and rolling hills. Two off-shore islands, one with a restored lighthouse. The park also includes US Life-saving service stations, coastal villages and winding roads through picturesque farmsteads. The forest includes hardwood and conifer types, abandoned farm meadows, wetlands, streams and bogs and examples of glacially caused landforms. This is a place where lifetime memories are created for all ages and interests including outdoor recreation, vineyard touring, shopping, dining and relaxing. The area is rich with the park's maritime, agriculture and recreational history and this house is a perfect base for your explorations.

Good, but overpriced for what you get
Pros: Nice view of Lake Michigan from deck; plenty of room; less than 5 minutes drive to Glen Arbor, Sleeping Bear Dunes
Cons: Not well maintained; expensive; no Homestead privileges included; garage small and cluttered; mattresses need to be flipped
Details: This is a spacious multistory home at the very top of the Homestead resort, well suited for multiple people. There's a nice view of Lake Michigan from the large deck and kitchen/living rooms. The house has plenty of space and is nicely furnished. The house was not clean upon our arrival (found a razor cover in the master shower; pretzels on the floor in the living room, etc.). The house also did not appear to be well maintained as we had a broken toaster and a leaking fridge during our stay. The prop manager was great and addressed both issues promptly, but at this price point these are issues that should not be happening at all. The mattresses were also in bad shape and desperately needed to be flipped or replaced as they had major sloping near the edges. The garage will not fit 2 SUV size cars. We had a Suburu Outback and a Honda Pilot and one car had to be parked sideways on the small driveway in front. Perhaps if they removed some of the stuff stored in the garage it would fit both. The Homestead Resort is a nice location--with convenient shopping, bar/restaurants, etc.--but guests have no resort privileges and thus cannot use any of the on site swimming pools. If you have kids and it rains--like it did for us--, it would have been nice to have pool access or to have been able to pay for pool access. In sum, it's a nice place, but given the issues we experienced and having stayed at other rentals in the area, it's a bit over-priced. Especially when you're asked to take all of your garbage to a dumpster at the end of the block before checking out or be fined (isn't that what the cleaning fee is supposed to cover???).
Beautiful Home - Awseome View - Comfortable Setting!
Would have been a 5* rating if not for an infestation of spring ants. The property manager conducted a full inspection and treated the problem, though the ants were slow to disappear, not harmful, just pesky!
There were a few items in the kitchen that needed attention, however they have been addressed by the property manager and I am confident that those issues will be resolved.
Overall, I would choose this home again.
Wonderful house. Could use new mattresses on single beds.
I appreciate the information and will take steps to replace the mattresses.
Great layout, stunning views,
The house was perfect for my family. A downstairs suite was ideal for my son. The upstairs bedrooms were great for the kids. Big kitchen with beautiful appliances and plenty of room for everybody.
Had a great time
The house was perfect for skiing. Clean and tons of space. Had everything you needed and the owner was quick to respond to any questions. Grandma could sit back and watch the kids skiing down the hill from the backdoor. Also, this was the perfect spot for some incredible sunsets over Lake Michigan!
Thanks for sharing your home with us.
clean and spacious with great views of the lake and sunset
The house was clean and spacious with great views of the lake and sunsets. It sits at the top of the Homestead resort area and is in a semi-circle circle of several other houses. The back faces toward one of the Homestead ski hills. If you are there in winter, and you can enjoy watching people ski past. The woodburning fireplace really warms up the room nicely. The house provides all the necessities and there were plenty of towels and linens. The king bed is comfortable and the other two beds have firmer mattresses. Bob responded quickly via email to my questions. Our only issue was not enough hot water for four people, which Bob said he would look into. You are less than five minutes drive from Glen Arbor and also the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail.
