About Dennis Stein
Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, I've called Ithaca and the bountiful Finger Lakes region home for the last 25 years. Living in downtown Ithaca, I greatly enjoy the contrast between the vibrant urban downtown and the peaceful, wide-open vistas around the lakes. My co-owner Ed, also a transplant who takes inspiration from the natural beauty of the Finger Lakes region, has lived in downtown Ithaca with his family even longer.
Dennis Stein purchased this Cottage in 2006
Why Dennis Stein chose Trumansburg
Twin Pines is a cozy cottage that guests regularly describe as very welcoming. When the cottage went on the market in 2006, the seller shared that because of the sheer beauty of the view, several potential out-of-area buyers expressed plans to tear down the cottage and replace it with a much larger contemporary house. We decided to buy the building so that its simple beauty and great view of the lake could be preserved and enjoyed by vacationers and guests.
What makes this Cottage unique
Twin Pines is replete with original artistic details. Some of the furnishings are handmade, and the front door was crafted by Mary Shelley, a local woodworking artist in Ithaca. We feature the work of other local artists.

Twin Pines by Ithaca
Very comfortable cottage with many recent upgrades. The east shore of Lake Cayuga has fewer cottages due to railroad line. The west shore has steep slopes down to the lake. Many cottages are located down steps near the waters’ edge. Twin Pine is at the same lever as the parking with steps down to the beach and dock. That is much better for a short rental. The cottage is two (2) miles from Taughannock Falls State Park. There are great launching facilities there as well as a beach with life guards. The cottage is close to Ithaca so getting provisions and meals out is a cinch.
Wonderful experience. Would stay there again
Definitely met our expectations. Owner came over and was very nice.
Quite Finger Lakes Getaway
The house was private and clean, with excellent lake views. Will come back.
Great place from which to explore Lake Cayuga
Greatly enjoy the experience of this place.
I think everything was said in previous reviews, I agree 100%! Definitely will be back, thank you!
A whole latta fun at Twin Pines
We wanted to stay on the lake while recently visiting my daughter in Ithaca and the Twin Pines was awesome! Dennis met us on arrival and we immediately settled into comfortable conversation. He asked about our plans and offered so many suggestions. He has a wealth of information. He and Ed are extremely gracious.
The views of the lake (from both floors) were expansive. The large deck off the first floor was perfect for watching the sunrise while sipping coffee, gathering throughout the day and evening star gazing.
The cabin was very welcoming with options for indoor seating. With the enclosed porch and outside deck, we had plenty of room to cook, eat, play games, lounge and enjoy company and each other. My daughter invited friends for dinner and we never felt cramped. They could not believe the views and comfort of the cabin.
We had a fire on the beach that took away the October chill and allowed us to enjoy the sights and sounds. Just lovely.
Twin Pines was a short drive from Ithaca, various gorges, hikes and falls, wine tours and restaurants throughout the region. We wished that we had more time to explore the area and hope to return next season.
Again, thank-you Dennis and Ed for your hospitality!
