About Sharon Rossino, Broker/Owner at Two Rivers Real Estate
I'm an East Coast native transplanted to the Colorado Rockies. I am an Indie Realtor at my company Two Rivers Real Estate in Georgetown, CO. I love to travel with my husband, Michael, and two amazing kiddos. I've lived and worked in the Rockies for 17 years and I'm so blessed to call Georgetown HOME. I'm happiest in the mountains when I'm skiing with my family, gardening at altitude (8,519 ft is no simple thing!), and contributing to a sustainable world. I try to live simply and share. Idaho Springs is a special town in Clear Creek County and I'm thrilled to share it with the world!
Please consider the following guidelines when booking this property:
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Place needs some attention, more curtains on the windows and smoke alarm to close to the stove, beds were great loved the comforters all in all was nice place with good view of the mountains, 10 minutes to town, paid more then I would of liked too with all the extra fees.
Thanks for the review, Theresa. We’ll look into more curtains, although there are curtains on every window other than the front which overlook the pond, and we did not want to obscure the view. Smoke alarms are required for health and safety. The only fee charged on our end is the cleaning fee. All other charges you paid are to VRBO, not the Lodge. Thanks, again.
The house itself was nice, but there were a few things to be aware of. 1) It is right off the road and in someone's back yard. When you see 50 acres in the ad, it is not isolated at all. More of a compound with multiple structures and occupants. Make sure you use the first driveway, or you will be at the neighbor's house with their cars blocking access to the cabin. 2) If you don't mind dogs and the hair that comes with them (or are allergic), don't rent this place...we had to buy three sets of sheets to sleep on. The ones provided were clean, but full of hair. 3) There are several missing light fixtures, so make sure you document them upon arrival. 4) The beat up van on cinder blocks right next to the house makes for bad photo opportunities.
Now the good stuff; the fishing is great (catch and release only), the host is excellent and responsive, and the location is very nice. After a shaky start, we loved our stay!
Thank you for your honest response. In an effort to address your comments, I'll make a few brief comments of my own.
1. The property is off a county road, not a highway or even a paved road. There are about 10 other homes in the 'neighborhood' on this road and most are seasonal-use Forest Service cabins. There is a caretaker that lives onsite in the large cabin. 2. This property is dog-friendly and I'm sorry you didn't realize that at the time of booking. I've never had other complaints about dog hair after a guest with a pooch, so to eradicate this from happening in the future, we now use a full set of linens for guests with dogs, and one without. 3. The caretakers' Westfalia Vanagon has been moved. It was visible from the pond cabin, but there are 49 other acres from which to take photos with no cabins or vehicles in view. I'm super-glad that you and your family could enjoy your stay in light of the linen situation. Safe travels!
Be careful, read all the fine print.....it seems to be all about the money.
We paid a lot of money for a two night stay. We moved the furniture upstairs so we could watch TV, and forgot to move it back. The agent then filed a claim against the insurance that we bought for "furniture moving". It took about 30 seconds to move that furniture! In addition to this, none of the furniture is comfortable. The queen bed slopes to the center, and the mattress is very bouncy and loud. Move your foot, and you will keep moving for a while. The upstairs "rocking" chair is not stable. It flipped over backwards with with me in it, and I smacked my head on the floor!
When I contacted the agent about all this, I received no answer at all. They got the cash, why should they follow up? I guess it's all about the money. Needless to say, we won't be back.
The one positive thing we can say is that the setting is beautiful.
In response to your comments:
We truly appreciated your business and were glad that you had the opportunity to stay at the Chicago Creek cabins. As I explained to you in private messages via VRBO, my 100lb cleaning gal cannot be expected to move furniture on her own...especially large wooden and leather sofas and rocking chairs.
I've had no other complaints about the beds as they are new, but I will look into this issue, and I thank you for bringing it to my attention.
Regarding your complaint about the rocking chair...well, it rocks. One must be cautious not to rock so hard as if on a piece of playground equipment. I've sat in that chair many times and never even came close to flipping over, especially since it is so big and heavy. I can't imagine, but I'm VERY sorry you flipped it-truly.
Lastly, I received no communication from you whatsoever until after you were charged the $75 to hire 2 peeps to put the furniture back where it belonged. At that time you expressed your 'downright anger' and then made the claims above.
I'm sorry this turned sour, but honestly one mustn't move other people's furniture when spending two nights in a home as a guest.
Cozy cabin for a nice get away with good fishing.
Had a great time at the cabin had plenty of beds and sleeping areas. Was a wonderful view of the mountains and nice to wake up to. Only thing that would make it perfect is if it was more secluded but the folks surrounding the area were very friendly and great people.
Overall cleanliness needs to improve and pictures were deceiving.
Beautiful area but Cabin and property around the cabin needs some TLC. Enjoyed walking the property and catching some trout. We were greated by a Moose and Elk which was pretty cool. Also location was perfect for being able to take some short day trips. Was surprised to have a family living within 100 feet of the cabin, but they were friendly and did not cause any concerns. Was also surprised to have previous renters food left in the refrigerator. Also would have expected the refrigerator to be cleaned up as well as the stove. A new set of pots and pans should be considered and the stove top burners are not all operating correctly. Did not use the fireplaces but they also were not cleaned from previous renters. A bit disappointed but certainly enjoyed getting away into the mountains of Colorado.
Wow-that's a tepid review for a guest who loved the property so much so that he inquired about purchasing it! Honest to God...
The property is a rustic cabin, not a city penthouse as some folks may be used to.
The stove works 100%. The pots and pans are actually higher end products. We do not, however, provide a new set of pots and pans for each guest. The fireplaces are used frequently, and I find it odd that ash in the fireplace would be a topic of a complaint even though the guest did not use it. There are condiments left in the fridge for guests as well as coffee, tea, and creamers. This is not considered other guests' leftover food. ??
The guest did get it right about all of the abundant wildlife that frequents the property & the peacefulness and quietude.
This is not a 5 star hotel. There are bugs, animals, ash, fish scales, other items that some may find offensive. There are caretakers that live on-site, which is expressed in the listing. If you are expecting an experience that one would have in the city, I urge you to not rent this lovely, rustic, pond cabin. If you're up for adventure and fishing, we welcome you with open arms.
Exactly what we were looking for! A secluded little spot that was still easy to get to. Perfect amount of space with the right amenities for a city girl in the mountains. Beautiful views & a quiet escape. Can't wait to go back!
The funky mountain town of Idaho Springs is located just 7 miles from the cabins.
