New 2 bedroom walkout lower level cabin apartment surrounded by alpine beauty.
Having grown up in the southern Black Hills (Edgemont), I have looked for years for a vacation home location closer to my roots. When this undeveloped piece of land on the banks of Spring Creek became available I jumped at the opportunity to build my dream retreat in the Hills. I selected a Mandala kit home (see mandala.com) as the structure to build as it fit beautifully on the upslope adjacent to the creek. My plan has always been to make a separate apartment space on the lower level that I could offer as a vacation rental so I might be able to offset the expenses of this second home. I am a semi-retired. My wife and I have four lovely daughters all of whom are out of the nest. We all enjoy the outdoors and traveling. We have used B&B's, AirBnbs, and VRBO's ourselves many times and embrace this mode of lodging as much more engaging and better value than a generic, boring hotel room. We are excited that you are considering a visit to the Black Hills. Highmark is centrally located to easily access most of the popular parks, monuments, and attractions. After the day's activities Highmark offers a beautifully secluded creekside location to unwind and absorb the sounds, smells, and sights of our cherished locale.

Why Owner chose Hill City
This is close to nearly everything most people love about the Hills. At the end of the day, a great place to relax and recharge.
What makes this Cabin unique
This is the only Mandala Home in the Black Hills. Its unique round shape allows an interesting open floor plan where the family can converse, eat, play, and reconnect. The natural materials of wood and slate create a comfortable and cozy environment. There is a large flagstone patio with a bistro table and chairs from which you can enjoy morning coffee and the musical sounds of Spring Creek.

This is a great place to stay. Accommodations perfect for the 4 of us. The centralized location was close to all the sites and towns we wanted to visit. Thank you Dan for introducing yourself and helpful tourist advice. We highly recommend.
Jacquelyn, you and your family were great guests. One of the things that I love about having an offering on VRBO is all the great people we meet. I am happy that you had a pleasant time in the Black Hills.
Safe travels always, Dan
Great location, great communication with the owner.
Perfect location for everything we wanted to do and see. Hill city is fun. Stayed during sturgis which we enjoyed even tho we arent bikers . Must sees: Sylvan lake, needles highway all the way around., golf course in Hot Springs if youre a golfer, We never got bored. Owner was great to work with. We had deer to watch every morning in the yard.. i will highly recommend to friends and family !
I’m happy that you had a fun time even though the Sturgis Rally was in full swing. It can be a bit crazy! I’m not a golfer but I’ve repeatedly heard that the golf course in Hot Springs is fantastic! Thanks for staying with us and please come again. You were a wonderful guest.
Very nice cabin
We really enjoyed our stay. Beautiful cabin and location
Vacation in the Black Hills
The location of this home, just outside of Hill City, is ideal. It's only 15 minutes to Mt. Rushmore, 10 minutes to Crazy Horse, and not much farther to other destinations such as Custer State Park and Deadwood. The home itself is very nice and relatively spacious. It would have been nice to have another bathroom, but it's not that big of a deal. The kitchen is very nice and gives you plenty of room to cook and eat. There is no TV service, which is a little unusual, but about 50 DVD's and a DVD player, along with plenty of board games, a few books, and literature about area attractions. We saw a yellow-bellied marmot on the patio, but otherwise no wildlife around the property during our stay. A couple of suggestions or minor complaints:
*There was no sign of recycling, so we took our relevant items to tourist attractions and put in recycling bins they had available. Perhaps it's not a 'thing' in SD, but throwing plastic bottles, cardboards, and aluminum in the trash isn't something most people are comfortable doing these days.
*There are a couple of fishing poles in the living room, but no fishing tackle.
Overall, a great property and recommended for those visiting the Black Hills area.
We had a great stay! Loves the property it was beautiful!
First time Renting
The amenities were great. It was nice not having to bring the whole house in order to stay and be comfortable. We enjoy watching movies as a family so the selection of DVD’s was a welcomed surprise. The rental was centrally located to the things we wanted to do but a little closer to the highway than we would have liked. Although once inside the rental, you could not hear the road noise.
So glad you enjoyed your stay. You were terrific guests. Thank you.
Breakfast with the Presidents is only 15 minutes away at Mt. Rushmore. Professional rock climbing instruction for all levels of skill at Sylvan Rocks meets at Sylvan Lake Resort 15 min away. Ever wanted to see Pleistocene megafauna survivors? Take a trip on the wildlife loop at Custer State Park (15 min) to see the American Bison. The Mickelson Trail is a gem and is a 5 min walk away. From there you can hike, bike, or horseback ride the entire 109 miles of trail extending from Edgemont to Lead.
