Why Ellen Hartman chose Cascade
We are sharing our beloved home, passed down to this current generation, in order to offer visitors the precious beauty and accessibility the location offers. It's a wonderful centering spot for walks, hikes, stargazing, and exploring the region. This home is great for any season.

Super Clean, Comfortable, Great Views
Everything exactly as stated. We loved the unfussiness of the property, private location with amazing mountain views and starry skies. I would go back here again and again. Lovely owner and a fantastic experience.
Thank you so Very much for your thoughtful and appreciative review. You were wonderful renters and I am happy that your family had such a good, relaxed, western-style "holding environment" for your Birthday reunion!
You are most welcome to return again.
Thanks again for choosing Shooting Star Sojourn!
Perfect Mountain Getaway
This cabin home is really great on so many levels - perfectly situated in a very private, forested setting with incredible mountain views out of nearly every window - yet part of a charming community so as not to feel isolated. Once you enter the long private driveway you are in your own little world complete with birdsong, fresh breezes, jaw-dropping views, and the occasional friendly visit from a forest critter.
The home is very cozy, clean, and comfortable with plenty of distinct areas to allow each guest to have personal space. Attractive yet non-fussy décor allows a welcoming, lived-in appeal. Much appreciated was the use of the garage, plus the washer/dryer. Wifi worked great for us during our stay, and even though it was over-the-air TV only (no cable stations), we were able to patch in our must-see football game via our computer through the TV.
Some of our favorite things: Morning sun streaming in making home cheerful and bright. Simply sitting on deck to commune with sights/sounds of nature. Watching the ever-changing weather patterns over the mountains. The glimpse of the far away city lights at night. Pretty linens, soft towels, cute dishes. And the blessed privacy and quiet.
Ellen, the owner, was very considerate, readily responsive, and showed a genuine interest in making our stay pleasant. She has thoughtfully provided various notebooks with tips on the cabin itself, plus sightseeing and amenities close by.
We were three adults attending a local conference so our time at the cabin was sadly limited. But we could easily see how this home would be as equally perfect for family get-togethers (abundant beds/baths) as for a couple's romantic getaway. Truly a special place.
We are already planning a return visit.
Tips: If staying more than a few nights, plan to bring own laundry supplies (there were 2 Tide pods provided) and extra TP, kleenex, etc. There are a nice assortment of condiments already in fridge, a few spices, plus a little coffee. We found bars of soap, body wash (no shampoo/cream rinse), dish soap, basic first aid supplies, a few replacement garbage bags. There is a closet with a limited selection of games and books.
Thank you!! For taking the time to provide us with this wonderful feedback.
As guests you were so completely responsible, leaving the house almost spotless and well taken care of. It is a true sign of maturity and consciousness, in my opinion, and much appreciated. You were also very patient as we and Vrbo worked out some of the special considerations on line. Again much appreciated.
It is truly a gift to know that you/our guests so appreciate the unique beautiful setting and cozy interior of the house. Sorry you did not have much time to hike and explore a bit more but you were obviously quite sensitive and receptive to this "home" away from....!
I will make a point to provide enough TP, napkins, tissues etc--we usually do.
Thank you all again and you are certainly welcome back any time!!
Great family weekend!
We scheduled this property because of its location! The pictures of the deck did not do it justice! It’s absolutely breathtaking! We loved having coffee out on the deck, and our kids enjoyed playing their guitars and singing while watching the sunset! What could be better than that? The house has everything you need, beds were comfy, towels were soft, table was large enough for our six! Plenty of pans, even an iron and board that we used to iron our cadet’s Uniform! So close to Pikes peak and more! there is a darling winery right down the street where you can eat by a creek! Owner was very responsive! We had a great time! Thanks!
Thank you so much for your wonderful comments! Your appreciation of the location/view, house and mountain surroundings makes it such a pleasure to be sharing our house with you (and "the world). These are unique times where so many people, world wide, are opening their houses, dropping their "guard" to trust and welcome strangers to enjoy the qualities of their homes. It is a good sign I think!! A great western setting named after our former ranch called "The Shootin' Star", where we raised cattle and potatoes, it couldn't be better than to hear the guitars strumming on the deck under the stars!! So glad your kids got the feel of it so well!
Thanks again and welcome back any time. Again, congratulations to your son at the Air Force Academy!
Nice mountain retreat
The property is large and comfortable. The property is a little dated but everything is clean and well maintained. The property has no air conditioning, so it can get warm during the day. But at night it cools off. A minor inconvenience is that we had not cell reception at the house. But were OK with the house internet connection. The location was great, as we were a short drive from all the area attractions. Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay.
Thanks you for taking the time to review us. I'm glad that the ground phone line which we provide plus the internet allowed you to experience adequate communication. 90% of our guests did not seem to have a problem with the signal. Real mountain communities sometimes can't cover all the carriers. Also, we do not advertise air conditioning as we seldom come near needing it at 7000 feet altitude! There are a few warmer days now, with the global warming, but I'm happy you used the fans and the constant gentle mt. breezes that provide excellent cross ventilation. Our guests were actually still using the furnace at night up to July 15th!
Yes the house is a little older and most folks truly love its rustic western qualities-- almost a cabin, but really a nice spacious house.
Overall, very happy you enjoyed your visit!!
Having this place to stay really made our vacation. Very comfortable, clean, and convenient. I hope to visit again soon!
Thanks for you comments! Even tho your stay was just 3 nights, having a nice, clean, communicative folks like you and your family is what makes these short term rentals worthwhile!
You are appreciated 🙏🌟and of course welcome back anytime!!
Great stay! 😊
We had a great stay! The location is super, with rugged mountain views all around. Nice, large deck. Fun hiking right out the back door. Comfortable beds. Lots of room for the 5 people we had in our group. Very accommodating hostess. We had a great time!
Be sure to visit the CO Wolf and Wildlife Center and Front Range BBQ while you are here.
Thank you BJ. You were so responsive and fun to communicate with. I wish I could have met you in person. Am especially glad that you enjoyed so much of what our house on the mountain mesa offers--as well as the convenience of the location. You were a wonderful group and I hope you come back one day! Thanks again!
Shooting Star Sojourn is only 15 minutes from both Colorado Springs and Woodland Park, just off the historic Highway 24 (Ute Pass). About 20-25 minutes to Air Academy (non-rush hour.) Clinics and hospitals, fitness and laundry in each place. Nearby local attractions are countless - explore eclectic Manitou Springs, visit the Garden of the Gods park, and discover the mystical Cave of the Winds and other Native American monuments and landmarks. Historic gold mining town of Cripple Creek, now a Casino town, is a truly senic 50 minute drive and you can gamble and eat some fine foods. You may find an old fashioned Melodrama to attend in Manitou or Cripple Creek.
Love the outdoors? Lovely hikes from our front door that even the kids can take! Other more strenuous hikes begin within a 5 minute walk. Magnificent star-gazing from our deck. Enjoy fishing, hiking, and mountain biking in the area, or take a day trip to one of Colorado's renowned ski resorts. The options are dazzling!
The Pikes Peak entrance and North Pole Village are both less than one-half mile from our home. Other quaint little rocky mountain towns are nearby. This area is perfect for a family vacation, or even a sabbatical into the great outdoors.
Enjoy the very best and beautiful that Colorado has to offer conveniently located near countless popular attractions.
