We are blessed to be one of approximately 10 houses that have direct access to the secluded Barger Pond. Barger Pond is a small freshwater spring-fed lake nestled in the Hudson Highlands. In summer it provides the perfect respite from the heat, while in the winter, we love nothing more than putting on our ice skates.
Built in the 1940’s by our grandparents as a summer retreat and later a small farm, the cottage has been tastefully renovated to bring the house into the 21st century with modern amenities, while still maintaining its original cottage feel.
In the morning, have breakfast watching the deer graze down by the lake. In the evening, watch the sunset from the dock and then settle down to sleep in the quiet cool freshness of the lake air or cozy up to the fire with a great glass of wine.
Despite being just an hour from Manhattan, the cottage is tucked away in the hills of the Hudson Highlands, near the Fahnestock State Park section of the Appalachian Trail. However, if you do decide to venture away from the lake, there are a wealth of activities to choose from, including antiquing (Stormville), historic houses, state parks and West Point.
Finally, numerous major retailers, supermarkets and Jefferson Valley Mall are only 15 minutes away (and yet a world away), ensuring that gathering necessities is easy.
Please note that we only rent on a monthly basis.
