- 3 Bedrooms with Queen Beds, 2 Full Baths, sleeps 6
Fantastic views from my peaceful property, front deck, & couch. A calm comfortable mountain retreat to recharge & reconnect. Cathedral ceiling, balcony, wood stove, dsl, wifi. Trails run through my properties past organic plantings of fruit & nut trees and hundreds of plantings that support the abundant wildlife (from bluebirds to eagles), 2 streams, adjoins thousands of acres of the 20 mile long reservoir, on which I have a registered rowboat available to you for fishing, & which is open for kayaking, canoing, & removable keel sailboats. You will find swimming, hiking, golf, antiquing, restaurants, live music and theatre nearby, in winter cross-country & downhill skiing.
OR, just settle in on the deck, you can see for 10 miles without a building in sight. Watch fireflies dance under a star studded sky, or relax on the couch in front of the wood stove with a good book and beverage of choice. I have a collection of games, puzzles, & a small selections of 50 or so movies.
There are 3 new hiking trails in Andes. The Shavertown Trail, a mile from my property—as the crow flies— is an easy ascent to a pond overlooking the reservoir and continues on from there. The put in for kayaks and canoes is a 1/4 beyond that trail head. You lookout upon the mountains of the forever wild Catskill Park with hundreds of miles of trails, yet are only 12 minutes from the delightful Village of Andes with shops, restaurants & galleries. Several lakes for swimming, kayaking, & canoing, plus a pool in the Village. Kayaks & canoes available for rental at Al’s Sporting Goods in Downsville, they will also pick you up if you take a days paddle down the East Branch of the Delaware, which exits the reservoir at that point. The Beaverkill across the way is a world class fly fishing stream, the reservoir is noted for its brown trout. The quiet winding road that runs below my properties is a wonderful walk or run, and is a favorite for cyclists--it is 14 miles from my cabin to the end of the road in Downsville and you will only pass 7 homes along the way.
Two golf courses, theater & music events in the area, including West Kortright Center, Roxbury Arts Group, Franklin Stage, Open Eye Theatre, Foothills in Oneonta. Day trip to Cooperstown for the Baseball Hall of Fame, Farmers Museum & Fenimore Art Museum, Glimmer Glass Opera, and the Ommegang Brewery— that also has concerts, or go to White Lake for the Rock n Roll museum at the original Woodstock Festival site which also has concerts.
Buy locally grown produce, dairy, eggs, and meat at local farmers markets or directly from the farms. A number of small breweries and distilleries have opened in the region— a brewery as well as a hard cider company are opening in the Village in the near future.
5 ski resorts in the general area as well snow tubing. Bring snowshoes & crampons for winter hiking the Catskill trails. Excellent cross country skiing on the Delhi Golf Course, as well as Palmer Hill & the Rail Trail — both in Andes.
The cabin has a washer & dryer, dish washer, microwave, stove & counter top broiler, coffee grinder, blender, small food processor and all accoutrements. All linens are included. Two full bathrooms, one with a tub & shower, the other just a shower. Three bedrooms with 3 queen beds. I have an entertainment center that plays dvds and old vhs format, a surround sound system, but there is no TV reception.
About the Owner
About Michael Suchorsky
I am an avid hiker having hiked most mountains in the Catskills many times, and also kayak. Spent 10 weeks driving camping and hiking from the coast of Maine to the northwest corner of Washington State, down to Arizona and back up through Utah and Colorado then points east, hiking Khatadin, the White Mountains, Bob Marshall Wilderness, Yellowstone, the Cascades, Yosemite, Chiricahuas, Zion, and many more, also a month in Alaska. I am now once again involved with music. For 25 years I toured & recorded throughout the world with NYC, and at times Paris, as my base. Upon buying my lower Catskill home in 1989 I started transitioning to working as a studio artist and graphic designer working with the major design studios, but mainly at HBO, USA, and Showtime, and then a stint with National Geographic. I was pretty much living here full-time by 2002 and gave up my NYC apt. in 2008. Upon purchasing the first property I immediately started creating planting beds and planted many hundreds of trees, all of which supply habitat for wildlife, and through which I maintain trails. (My latest development is building a rock garden amidst the rock ledges that rise up behind the cabin.) Here one can commune with nature on a macro/micro level. I easily attain a state of wonder and this environment sustains that. When I started working with a choreographer they asked for my resume for a show. I wrote: Communing with lichen and moss above 3500 feet. (They said they needed more.)
Michael Suchorsky purchased this cabin in 1996
Why Michael Suchorsky chose Catskills
I fell in love with this area the moment I came here. After searching for a country home for 6 years, I knew this was the perfect place the first day I came to Andes. The mixture of fields, forest, streams, mountains, viewsheds, wildlife, peaceful calm, watching the weather in all seasons move across the mountains and valleys, all combine to envelope me, allowing me to LIVE IN my favorite art form. Endlessly renewing, energizing in a slow quiet way. I find it magical.
What makes this cabin unique
I love the mountains! Here you are surrounded by an amazing amount of wilderness, particularly when you consider it is 150 miles from Times Square. The amazing views never stop—the sky is an ever changing work of art. I have streams on the property, a pond on my lower property, you can walk to the waters edge of NYC largest reservoir. There are hundreds of miles of trails and you can pull over on just about any back road and walk the quiet road amidst bucolic farms and forested mountains. There are many restaurants, entertainment venues, antique shops, a variety of museums and interesting stores, many galleries, farmers markets. The Belleyare Ski area (25 minutes away) is about to be doubled in size with the addition of an adjoining upscale hotel/golf course/ski resort, there are 4 other ski resorts in the area ranging from 30 minutes to an hour or so away.

Loved our long weekend here. We were four adults and a dog and really enjoyed the place. The host was here to welcome us and extremely helpful. The smart tv, games and fireplace were all very enjoyable and the rooms are nice - even better than in the pictures. The only thing I'd note is that it's quite far from most places and the bedroom walls are very thin.
Great Place to relax!
The Cabin is amazing. We spent a week here.
There is no noise, dead silent except for a car driving by every now and then.
We enjoyed staying in, out on the deck, the garden or driving to the nearby towns.
The owner left very good instructions on how to use everything, where to go, how, etc.
The Cabin has all you need, Kitchen is very complete, Living area is super comfortable.
I could go on...
Very, very relaxing
Here are two reviews for our stay this July.
We drove about 3.5 hours from Brooklyn and stayed at the Andes Cabin Retreat for 7 nights. I loved it! Excellent kitchen tools for cooking and grilling, comfy furniture and beds, 5-speaksound system, gorgeous view. The cabin met my expectations, and the guides written about the the house and the surrounding area were terrific. Michael is a great communicator.
My favorite moments on the deck were:
- my first hummingbird sighting
- a thyme-scented cool breeze
- distant cloud-bursts of lightning over the mountains
- the full moon and very starry skies
- quiet, absolute quiet
- drinking tea and reading for hours
We were 10 minutes from Andes, 5 minutes from water and great hikes. We ate at Two Old Tarts and got ice cream cones from the Andes General Store across the street. We'll be back.
What a special place. The cabin is lovely, comfortable, spacious and super clean. Great sound system. Lounge on the comfortable couch with a book. Bring your yoga mat and do your sun salutations with a stunning view. I did. The kitchen is very well set up whether your making a romantic dinner for two or having a family chow down.
The deck is beautiful. It's shaded with flowering trumpet vine, breezy and the view is gorgeous. Air fragrant with wild thyme and pine, every morning was blissful having tea watching the mist drift off the valley, as goldfinches and hummingbirds darted and called to each other. Evenings were miraculous with vast, starry night skies. Wow. The house is nestled against the mountain and nature is all around you. Rabbits, chipmunks, a stunning grey vixen, raptors, song birds.
Quiet quiet quiet. Real good sleeping.
Pepacton Reservoir is 5 minutes away with trout jumping. Fishing mecca. The awesome Shavertown hiking trail is right there. Or get a fresh doughnut and chew the fat at the Tremperskill store 5 mins away. And if you want a good meal or a beer with folks, the swell town of Andes is 10 minutes away.
Andes Cabin Retreat- A Real Treat!
We thoroughly enjoyed our long weekend stay at the Andes Cabin. It was everything that we could have asked for and far more. The cabin was very clean, comfortably furnished and equipped with a multitude of amenities, including board games, which we enjoyed playing on the outdoor patio deck, together with our hummingbird and yellow finch companions who greeted us each day. The cabin has a spectacular view of the mountains, especially at sunset, and is closely situated to quaint downtown Andes, the Round Barn Farmers' Market in Margaretville, hiking trails and the gorgeous Pepacton Reservoir. We are thankful for Michael's hospitality and for making us feel so welcome. This property is a true gem!
Catskills Retreat as You Imagine It
The house has a distinct personality, with beautiful small nature-sourced installations here and there, pictures, interesting live plants, and good books. It is cozy, spotless clean, and warm. Everything works, whatever you need is right where you need it. There are a few houses around, but they are far apart and completely hidden, and the place feels like it is deep in the wilderness. During two days we spent here, a bunny came to visit the backyard, and a chipmunk chose a deck to sit and sing a song. The view is gorgeous. Michael, the owner, was very helpful and communication with him was smooth and trouble-free. Highly recommended!
It has actually taken me a full year to get over this experience and interaction with this renter. Location is beautiful, no question about it. House is old and decor is dated and mismatched. He charges a cleaners fee though does it himself and then decided to keep my deposit due to a flimsy door coming off its track but easily placed back on and accidentally having taken two tupperware containers. His emails were defaming and offensive accusing us of leaving the house ramshackled - which was just not true. He is anti children and the lake is no where near the house. He also lives in the house full time so alot of personal items all over the house. We did enjoy our time here, I wont lie, it is peaceful and serene and views are gorgeous and do not doubt that others have had a great time. My daughter had a lovely time playing in the creek and on the fairy rocks. But I will not be coming back anywhere near this house- He kept our $900 deposit and as of yet has not sent me any detailed receipts for the "damages"
