Ariana Geervliet purchased this Villa in 2005
Why Ariana Geervliet chose Kastelli Kissamou
Ariana fell in love with the property many years ago. It was an old farm house with a stable and just some olive trees. A lot of work needed to be done before it became the little paradise that guests often call it. Ariana converted the former stable into a villa and rents out 2 more properties, an apartment and a studio. She loves the location because of it's peace and quiet but still close to the amenities in Kastelli. No noise of roads, just the cicadas and the birds......
What makes this Villa unique
Ariana immediately loved the unique location of it, so close to Kissamos but set in a natural environment. She spent two years on the restoration and the whole property is now set in a mature Mediterranean garden. The pool area has become a little oasis with all the exotic plants around it. The location is perfect to explore the area. You can go for hikes from your doorstep or go to famous beaches like Balos and Elafonisi. The whole west of Crete is fantastic for drives, weather you're interested in nature or culture.

Wonderful place for our family
The villa was perfect for our family of 5, and we loved the shared pool area. It was nice to have a few other guests and Ariana around, so we had the feeling of remoteness and peace, but we weren't totally alone. Ariana was very helpful with recommending restaurants or beaches, whatever questions we had. Our kids loved playing on the roof top deck when the sun cooled off - we had an amazing view to enjoy! The sleeping arrangements were perfect for us (3 twin beds for the kids), the kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed; there was even a fridge at the pool area that guests could use. The pool was about a 10 second walk from our villa, but it seemed private and secluded because of the beautiful surrounding gardens. We loved watching and listening to the sheep and goats roaming the nearby areas. We also appreciated the air conditioning in the bedrooms! Lovely place. Thanks for having us!
Kalimera Victoria and thank you for the great review!
Lovely place to stay in a very convenient location
Ariana was a lovely host with many great recommendations. We loved staying here as a great jump off to beaches (Balos, Elafonisi, Falasarna), hikes (Samaria Gorge), ruins (Polyrenia) and the charming port of Chania. Always great to head back for a swim at the beautiful pool or have dinner on the rooftop and enjoy the views of the sea. We miss our family of cats who would visit us daily! (A little cat food goes a long way to making their friendship!)
A great place to be !
We’ve spent 2 weeks in the villa with our 2 sons in July 2018.
The villa is spacious, well-furnished and we felt at home during our stay. Everything was quiet and clean.
The garden near the pool is a wonderful place to take a nap, read or just dream watching the amazing view. Our sons had a great time playing in the pool.
The location is perfect as it was not far from ones of the most beautiful beaches in Crete (Balos, Elafonissi, Falassarba). And a day to walk through the Samaria Gorges is also possible from there.
Arianna is a wonderful host : she’s here to help you when needed, gives you tips for places and restaurants.
In conclusion, we definitely recommend the place.
Merci beaucoup Kristel! Hope to see you all again xx
Perfect place to relax
Excellent place. Accomodation was perfect with great swimming pool in idyllic setting .
The properties are nicely private and landscaping enhances the setting.
Arianne was very helpful any slight problem was attended to immediately.
The property is outside the town so a car is really essential .30minute walk in.
Good location for exploring western Crete.
Would certainly go back.
Sitting in the hills above Kissamos, Arianne’s Place is ideal for a quiet getaway in Crete. Staying in the comfortable two-bedroom villa, our family of four need never have strayed far from the magnificent pool, enjoying the peace and sunshine, frequently to ourselves. With the well-equipped kitchen and choice of eating areas (including a rooftop terrace offering great views), it would have been possible to stock up at one of the nearby supermarkets and never leave. However, with a fantastic choice of family-run tavernas in the nearby town offering traditional food and drink at very reasonable prices, most evenings were spent strolling down to the sea front and taking our pick of prime locations. Without a single Pizza Hut, McDonalds or KFC to be seen anywhere on our travels, it seemed impossible to get a bad meal anywhere, but a particular favourite was Maria Beach. Just be prepared for the walk back to be a little more strenuous, especially in the height of summer, but at least then the whole family can enjoy the decent local beers and wines. Plus with air con in the bedrooms, it never took long to cool down when we returned and we always got a good night’s sleep, at least until the cicada chorus started in the morning (don’t worry – you soon get used to it). We hired a car for the week, which gave us access to absolutely stunning beaches at Falassarna (a half-hour drive) and Elafonissi (about an hour). We also considered a boat trip to Balos beach (which leaves from Kissamos or Falassarna) but just never got around to it. Ariana was a friendly and knowledgeable host, with plenty of advice for those who want it on getting the most from your stay. On her recommendation, we spent an evening in the village of Rokka for a full moon concert, enjoying classical music at an old Minoan site in the mountains. She was also very accommodating and we were able to spend our last day lounging by the pool rather than killing time waiting for our late-night flight home, effectively giving us an extra day in the sun. It was a wonderfully relaxing holiday and we’re considering returning as a couple in a few years’ time to try one of the apartments.
A small road from Kastelli ends at the hamlet of Kato Kounopitsa, home to 4 Greek families and Kastania Lodge. It is in a stunning location on a hillside overlooking the small seaside town of Kissamos, the sea and the olive groves. This little gem is perfect for those who want to be near all the amenities of a small Greek town, but also appreciate the peace and quiet of the countryside. Imagine picking your own flowers from the garden or herbs for cooking or making a tea. It takes less than 5 minutes to drive to town or to the nearest beaches.
We provide our guests with an information book with suggestions for day-trips, good tavernas, walks, snorkeling and diving, shopping and other practical information.
Literally from your doorstep you can go on walks and explore the area, which is rich in wild flowers, little churches and ancient sites.
Kastania Lodge is a perfect base from which to explore the west of Crete. The beautiful white sand beach of Falasarna is only a 20 minute drive away, or a little further you can visit the sandy beach and nature reserve of Elafonisi, or you might wish to explore the Gramvousa peninsula and the famous lagoon of Balos with a day trip on a boat.
There are many beautiful gorges to hike; at Deliana, at Anidri and Agia Irini.
For those who are interested in ancient Greece, there are wonderful museums in Kissamos itself and in Chania. The museum in Kissamos has some of the best-preserved Roman mosaic floors in the world, while the Historical Museum of Chania boasts artifacts and carved seals dating back to 1500 AC.
Kissamos has many superb restaurants and fish tavernas where you can relax over a meal in the sunshine, on the seafront.
The nearby Venetian city of Chania is a must for culture and shopping. You can buy handmade leather goods in the famous 'leather lane'. Chania also has numerous excellent restaurants near the historic harbour where you can enjoy traditional Cretan cuisine.
On the premises of 2800m2 Kastania Apartment and Kastania Studio are also for rent.
