Why Phay MacDowel chose Saint Hilary
The Little Barn is perfectly located, in a rural setting surrounded by peaceful walks and bridal paths but only a couple of miles from a lovely village which offers two pubs, a great local shop, post office and some vintage, shabby chic outlets. A great base for exploring the whole of this beautiful part of Cornwall.

The little extras made a difference
We’ve stayed in lots of cottages/properties over the years and it was the little extras and special attention that made this property stand out.
Great location, clean and well equipped, the bread and jam on arrival was very welcomed after a long journey, as was the milk in the fridge. We found the property relaxing and spacious enough for the two of us plus the dog. The location was great but preferred to drive to walk the dog rather than walk locally, although we did find some local walks. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Ideal Cornish holiday
Little Barn is set in a quiet location away from the busy life, yet well placed for nearby cliff top walks, and visits to Penzance, Porthlevan and St Michaels Mount all close by. The property is very well equipped and was spotlessly clean on our arrival. We would highly recommend Little Barn for a holiday and would love to stay there again.
Great place to stay
This was a comfortable, peaceful cottage, beautifully presented, where our friendly and welcoming hosts had provided everything we needed for a very enjoyable holiday. When weather permitted, we particularly liked relaxing in the secluded sitting- out area at the back. Although situated in the countryside, it is within easy access of main roads, the coastal path and interesting places to explore. We heartily recommend this property.
Little Barn was spacious
Generally we had a great stay at little barn. Nice decor, good size and well equipped. Down sides were..
2 loo rolls not enough for a week
Lots of tea and coffee but no Sugar
Shame garden wasn't secure. We would have loved to have had the French doors open and the dogs allowed to roam.
Sofa bed broken so wouldn't fold out flat. Out 7 year old spent the week on a mattress on the floor (which she fortunately loved). There was a single fold out bed but only a double duvet so it would have smothered our girl. I'm sure Dan would have offered further help if asked but as the floor option was ok we didn't persue.
Would we return? Yes. But we would have to bring loo roll and a dog tether!
Thank you for your review Richard and I am glad you enjoyed your holiday. Sorry there were a couple of things you were disappointed with, I just wanted to clarify a couple of points:
The Sofa bed mechanism isn't broken, it just doesn't fold totally flat. It is for occasional use and children only. A single duvet could be provided if one preferred to use the single fold out bed.
We do state in the details that the garden is not and cannot be dog-proof, sorry if you hadn't seen this.
Sorry you were disappointed with number of loo rolls and lack of sugar, the property is a self catering property so whilst we try to provide the basics we do not guarantee providing enough for the duration of your stay. Sorry if there was any misunderstanding here.
Thank you for your feedback and I am glad you enjoyed your stay overall.
Lovely property in quiet location
The Little Barn is a home from home, decorated and equipped to a high standard. It is perfectly situated for exploring this beautiful part of Cornwall with lots to see and explore in every direction. Close by is the long sandy beach at Praa Sands and the lovely town of Porthleven with plenty of places to eat out. We would highly recommend it and plan to make a return visit.
A hidden gem
Another fabulous stay at the little barn. As before the property was extremely well presented and equipped. The only disappointment was that there was no longer a barbecue, though the owner said we could have used theirs.
Hi Martyn, I am glad you enjoyed your stay! I will speak to the owners about providing a BBQ again!
The Little Barn is ideally located for exploring West Cornwall, set in a rural location but close to the village of Goldsithney and within a few minutes drive of three fabulous beaches. The famous St Michael’s Mount and the bustling town of Penzance are approximately 10 minutes away. The Barn is equidistant between the stunning Lizard peninsular and rugged Lands End peninsular, the historic towns of St Ives, Falmouth and Truro are all within a 40 minute drive. The property is surrounded by glorious footpaths, bridle ways, agricultural farmland and fields of daffodils. The famous South West coastal path can be accessed at nearby Prussia Cove, a series of coves and beaches named after an infamous smuggler.
