Thank You Patrick!! for making our stay in Paradise so enjoyable, all your recommendations were spot on, we couldn't have asked for a better guide, to send us on all the activities that we we really wanted to do. From the hanging bridges to Skytrek everything you advised was outstanding. The house was perfect, clean and gorgeous with lots of room for our group of 6 then 9 as the other group arrived. I've never seen views like what your home has to offer. The breakfasts were healthy and sooooo delicious with just the right amount of indulgence. Just outstanding in every way.
We stayed here between Christmas and New Year's in 2006. We had two families: 4 adults, 6 older children (high school and college). The listing is very true to what you find when you get there. The owner is next door to the property, and he is as helpful as the best concierge in the finest hotel anywhere. You are within 5 minutes to 1.5 hours of almost any activity you can think of. The only negative thing to say is that we took so many digital photos that 8 months later we are still editing and organizing them!!
The “Red Sunset” was a lovely, comfortable, and beautiful rental home, perhaps one of the best in Costa Rica. As soon as our family came driving up the hill with Jamie, our wonderful driver, we were overcome by its extravagant presence. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Patrick, our superb host, who brought us on a tour through the palatial residence. The house was elegant and lovely, boasting a breathtaking view of the lush land and an old-world charm. The dining room, including the entire home, perfectly accommodated our family of fifteen, consisting of six adults, seven teenagers, and two children. The bedrooms were spacious and the air conditioners kept the house cool. The living room had a splendid library, containing hundreds of books that were signed, within the span of five decades, by a thoughtful, soul-searching family member of Patrick’s. We loved relaxing in the hot tub and adored the pool table. Although we appreciated the indoor pool, we were a bit disappointed since it was sometimes too cold to swim in. Still, we amused ourselves playing pool, cards on the poker table, and board-games.
Every morning, Patrick’s lovely wife, Elisa, and her sweet helper prepared us a (complimentary!) breakfast fit for royalty. The food was so lavish and abundant—we were so stuffed that we didn’t even want lunch! Elisa was so gracious, accommodating a member of our family with dietary restrictions by providing delicious substitutes. She even prepared some foods separately for him, demonstrating her care and consideration. The fruit smoothies were delightful and the variety of meals was overwhelming. We looked forward for the delectable breakfast every morning—it was one of the best parts of our trip. Patrick kindly advised us about the best tourist attractions and we had a blast on a safari, exploring the natural wonders of Costa Rica. Our host was also quick to respond to our needs: whether we needed paper towels or wanted “pipas” to drink, he was there. We also loved our drives with Jamie: the sensation of the warm breeze, the sight of horses and cows grazing, the scent of tropical flowers, and the taste of cold coconut water were glorious. (Jamie’s awesome driving gave us a thrill, too.)
We made beautiful memories and had a wonderful time in Costa Rica, thanks to our wonderful host, Patrick, his hospitable wife, Elisa, and their magnificent rental home. God Bless!
A special shout out to Hunter, Patrick’s little boy, for his vivacity and cheer.
We had a phenomenal time at Red Sunset. The house is huge, amazing, and you have it all to yourself, including an indoor pool and hot tub. I personally loved the intricately carved doors and other finishes. The only thing better than the house was the hospitality of Patrick and his family. The man can cook! Breakfast was always a treat to look forward to and if you have any dietary requirements like my son (gluten) and my wife (grain), I doubt you’ll find a more accommodating place than Patrick’s kitchen. I highly recommend that you have him prepare a dinner for you while you there. Patrick can also tell you all the ins and outs of the local attractions and let you know about some of the lesser known options in the area (we rappelled down waterfalls!). Great house. Great hospitality. Great trip.
Patrick was an exceptional host and vacation planner helping us plan our daily outings and make reservations and arrangements for transportation. We went with his advice and used his driver Jaime. So nice to not have to navigate unfamiliar territory and roads and worry about getting lost or where to eat. Patrick's dinners and his tour guidance, breakfasts by his wife and helper all earn them 5 Star ratings!
The house is spacious with 6 bedrooms each with it's own bath and they made up beds each day. Nice to have access to a washer and dryer especially since things don't dry in the damp rainy season. The kitchen is fully equipped should you want to cook yourself, though we never had to as we took advantage of the option to have Patrick cook for us two nights--Thai w/ chicken satay & pad thai first night and Chicken Parmesan the other. We so appreciated him accomodating our daughter who has to eat gluten free as we had no problem and she always had dessert. The food was wonderful and we had plenty of leftovers for another night. Breakfast included each morning was also a delicious and hearty treat to send us on our way. We also enjoyed the hot tub, dipped in the indoor pool, played some pool and ping pong on the rainy nights. We were there in the beginning of rainy season, but were fortunate to have views of the volcano one morning and of the lake. Going out, we had sunny weather for our activities. House is a bit dimly lit and the upstairs floors creak. It's also a rough ride to get up the dirt road to it. I'd rate the location 4 Stars
The location is great to be in the middle of different activities, though you do have to travel over an hour to get to things like Sky Trek Zip Line, Eco Zoo, Canyoning & the hot springs near La Fortuna, and an hour in other direction to river float (saw lots of iguanas and some monkeys & crocs!) & the Puma Refuge. Sky Trek was our favorite activity.
I can't say enough about this property. Patrick and his wife went above and beyond to ensure our stay was fabulous. Breakfast was wonderful everyday and Patrick cooked an amazing dinner for us. I highly recommend this place, you will not be disappointed!
We had an amazing time. Everything was wonderful from our driver Jamie to our host Patrick and his wife. The house is beautiful with a fantastic view of Lake Arenal. Breakfast was great as well as the two homemade meals Patrick prepared for us. The chicken Parmesean was fantastic as well as the homemade chocolate cake. Recomend sky trek for zipling. Will definitely return!
