My husband and I stayed at Mr. Leroux's home for two weeks during incredible weather in September. The house is huge, immaculately clean, and designed in a contemporary style. There are doors and windows everywhere, giving on to amazing views of the village of Sarlat and surrounding countryside. We watched the sunset each night and the lights come up in the village.
It's only a ten-minute walk down to the village, which is charming and historic, and has two markets each week. There are also many restaurants and cafes to visit, although we did a lot of cooking on our own. The kitchen has everything needed and has enough plates and cutlery for more than a dozen people, There's a Nespresso coffee machine for quick espressos.
A plus for us was being five minutes from the Voie Verte, a beautiful paved bike path where you can ride from Sarlat to Rouffignac and beyond. Canoeing was also close by, and I only wish I had worn my swim suit for a dip in the Dordogne, a clean, clear river with a stony bottom.
The area around Sarlat is gorgeous and filled with interesting villages and pre history sites. Try The Salmandre restaurant in town--my favorite was the cepes omelette. My husband is a huge duck/foils gras fan and had duck confit six times during our stay.
The swimming pool is also lovely, but cold as it's not heated. Nevertheless, I swam most days, being used to the mostly frigid water in Lake Michigan.
Only one thing was missing--bring your own hair dryer. I didn't have one but picked one up at a store near the big Carrefour Supermarket.
