Generally a nice place. Fireplace switch did not work. Top bunk rail was loose, but otherwise great!
We had a great visit to the area. The cabin's location was perfect for exploring rich mountain and the Talimena trail. We enjoyed the train noises.
Nice cabin near Mena
Visited Mena in late October.. The changing leaves were beautiful! Nice, clean accommodations and comfy beds. Great communication from owner. Would stay here again.
Thanks for staying at our cabin! We hope you will come back and stay again!
Cozy and relaxing get-a-way
Cabin is not NEW but remodeled. Very clean. Loved the location. Suited our needs to a tee. Could do with more light near the cooktop in kitchen. Light switch in main bathroom has short. Had to leave the light on throughout stay. Fireplace was inviting. Overall it was a very nice experience.
Thanks for staying with us. We corrected the light switch.
Nice base camp for hiking in Oklahoma and Arkansas
Positive experience renting this property. The inside was very nice and clean. Enjoyed the smart TV. We used the charcoal grill each night. Linens were high quality. Easy to get to the property. There are train tracks nearby and trains can disturb sleep momentarily.
Thanks for staying with us.
Cozy for the whole family
We really enjoyed our stay here. The property was everything we were looking for. The kids really enjoyed the pool table and games. The train can be loud when it stops in the middle of the night, but that is out of everyone's hands. It did not spoil our stay. Be sure you write down or print the property information if you have AT&T as a cell provider. We had to drive into Menda since I forgot. I enjoyed showing the kids the fire flies at night. They had never seen one before.
Thanks for staying with us.
Mountain Glory Train Station and Train Rides
The Mountain Glory Station and The Glory Train is a miniature train and depot atop the beautiful Mena Mountain fourteen miles west of Mena, Arkansas. The Glory Train runs along two miles of track with stops along the way to view the southern vista or to click a picture of wildlife along its route. The attraction is located just 5 minutes from the Mountain Gateway Cabin. They also have Miniature golf, snacks and an ice cream shop.
The train was started in the late 50’s by local businessmen seeking to add attractions to the Mena area. After nearly 60 years of running, the train is still going strong. Be sure to visit this attraction when you stay at our property!
There are many trails located close to the area. Lovers’ Leap Trail is a short one mile trail and is a must do. The trail got its name from a local legend of an American Indian maiden jumping to her death when her sweetheart failed to return from a battle. Lovers’ Leap Trail is atop Rich Mountain just 5 minutes from the cabin.
The Black Fork Mountain Wilderness Trail is a branch of the Ouachita Trail in the Ouachita National Forest and is located about 5 miles from the cabin. The trail crosses rugged terrain and summits atop Black Fork Mountain. Free parking at the trailhead. The total distance in and out is a bit over 11 miles so start early or make it a two day hike!
Talimena Scenic Drive and Byway
The Talimena Scenic Drive is a National Scenic Byway stretching 54 miles from Mena Arkansas to Talihina Oklahoma. Our cabin is located a short drive to the Scenic Byway and serves as a great sightseeing adventure. Head east and you will have about a 18 mile drive to Mena Arkansas or head west and you can drive another 36 miles of the byway. There are lots of things to see on the byway.
Rich Mountain Store and Restaurant
You won’t want to miss one of Steve’s hamburgers or the all day breakfast at the Rich Mountain Store! Have your burger any way you like (ask about their spicy burgers!) and a great breakfast served all day! Local flair and a country atmosphere makes this a have to do when staying at the Mountain Gateway Cabin. Locals gather for a good game of dominoes and to tell a tale or two! They have some essentials at the store too!
Queen Wilhelmina Restaurant
We recommend dinner at the Queen’s Restaurant as its only a short trip from our cabin up Rich Mountain. They have an all you can eat seafood buffet Friday and Saturday nights and great menu items. You can order your favorite wine, beer, or mixed drink with dinner here too.
The restaurant at Queen Wilhelmina serves delicious southern cuisine. Breakfast is served from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. Lunch is served 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Dinner is served from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Nearly no restaurant stays open past 9pm in this area so don’t be late!
