Casa Toucan, Secluded Jungle Setting with Ocean View & Pool

Property Details

Updated: Jul 21, 2016
House, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 5-7)

Conveniently located 1000 feet above the village of Uvita, where the mountains go right down to the coast, this private 2000 square foot villa is nestled in a secluded jungle setting. There are ocean views across the entire west side of the house: kitchen, dining area, living room and veranda. One of the two bedrooms is set behind the veranda and can open up on it, allowing for an ocean view from bed. You do not need to bring much clothing because we have a dedicated laundry room and even provide the detergent. Due to the rapid rise in elevation, a 4x4 SUV will be needed and we can help you rent one at a very reasonable price. If you want to stay connected in the wilds, bring your laptop. The villa has WiFi. And if it rains, we have a flat screen TV, DVD player and extensive film collection. Or play a CD from our collection.

Our property manager, Rolando Fallas, will meet you on your arrival, orient you to the area, and escort you up to the house. He will be available to you throughout your stay for questions and issues that may arise.

Hike right from the front door down to a nearby river 10 minute walk away for a swim in a waterfall pool. Or make the 10 minute drive down to the village. Uvita is a multi-cultured community which serves as the shopping hub for the area. There are restaurants, supermarkets, a tourist information center, cafes, boutiques and shops. There is a beautiful farmer's market every Saturday morning where many local artisans sell their wares. Uvita connects to Bahia, the entrance to Marino Ballena National Park which has the Whale's Tail, a nearly 700 meter long and 250 meters wide sandbank, the third largest in the world.

Tour operators here (we recommend Uvita Information Center) will bring you snorkeling right off the coast at Ballena Isla or to the famous Cano Island for scuba or snorkeling. They also offer tours to Corcovado National Park across the bay for a day of hiking in one of the few primal forests left in the world. Or choose a day of deep sea fishing or tour Uvita's 1000 acre wildlife preserve. There are zip line tours and ATV tours. Go 5 miles down the Costanera to kayak on the Terraba River in the largest mangrove in all of Central America. We also have several wonderful waterfalls which you can walk to or rent a horse and ride there. The Whale's Tail divides the endless coastline of beaches into two distinct kinds. On one side, enjoy vigorous surf for both swimming and surfing. And on the other side, enjoy the calm water ideal for snorkeling.

With ocean breezes all day and cool mountain air at night, there is no need for air conditioning (although one bedroom has an in-wall unit). The two large bedrooms have queen sized beds (one bedroom has an additional single bed), private baths, and are separated by a spacious living room with dining area. All closets are dehumidified. Fully equipped kitchen and vaulted ceilings with palm frond ceiling fans give this home both comfort and beauty. Incredible wildlife and spectacular sunsets make Casa Toucan unforgettable. Wake up to the calls of howler monkeys and have sunset cocktails with resident toucans by your 40 foot ocean-view, very private swimming pool.

About the Owner

We are Rob and Lynn Clark and we built Casa Toucan as our dream vacation home where we hope one day to retire. It was built to feel like a tree house perched over the Pacific ocean but to have all the comfort and luxuries of home.

The Secret Gem of Costa Rica

  • 5 of 5

This was our 2nd time staying at Casa Toucan and having rented a few other houses now in Costa Rica, I can honestly say this is our favorite. It provides you with the realest feeling of Costa Rica while still providing all of the creature comforts you come to expect. I love how you can open up the whole house and let your sights spill down onto the back deck, down onto the HUGE pool and even further down onto the untouched jungle. Casa Toucan is also the best place to watch the Sunset! Finding the waterfall on the property is an adventure and if you think you've reached the end of the trail, push a little further and the waterfall will surprise you on the other side. Our house managers Tom and Christine were as accommodating and friendly as ever and are always open to helping you discover new things to do and places to eat around Uvita. We suggest taking the ATV Tour starting from Uvita, the Horseback tour to the Nuayaca Falls, and definitely eating at The Jolly Roger (try the Troubadour Wings). Pura Vida until next time!

A great non-boring jungle adventure!!!

  • 5 of 5

This home was like living in a tree house. Modest furnishings, good layout, and happy it was only one floor. Everything you need in the kitchen. There are steps down to the pool. We were awakened each morning by howler monkeys off in the distance, and greeted by the whiteface monkeys in the mornings. The toucans were plentiful! We were frequently visited by a coatimundi, a raccoon-like critter. We had to rent a 4x4 to get up to the house. Which was no problem for my husband to drive. The ocean view was little further away than I wanted, but we were 1000 feet up a jungle mountain and the area itself made up for it. It was still a spectacular view! The house was all screens so it felt like you were living outside. Never a dull moment when you hear the leaves rustle! The pool was very clean and totally refreshing. This was an adventure we will be talking about for a long time. Pura Vida!!!

A slice of heaven right on earth!

Our words will never do justice to the beauty of Uvita, Casa Toucan, and most importantly the Clarks. We had planned our trip to Costa Rica for months and watched them disappear due to a bad experience with our original rental. They say things happen for a reason and we knew we found it the minute we walked in the door of Casa Toucan. The layout of the house is perfect as well as the openness to the lush outside. The wildlife around the house was a constant amazement for us, sloths, monkeys, toucans, etc. We loved the area beaches, shops (great little bakery close by), and even found myself loving the drive up and down the hill. ( 4x4 a must especially when it rains ) Everything you need or think you need is there. The master bedroom is spacious and open. We loved the shower and so did a gecko one night! We can't say enough, not only about the house, but for the Clarks! Our thanks for the best vacation of our lives! We were ready to pack it in until we found you and your beautiful property. See you in 2015!

Casa Toucan is located in a beautiful canopy. The Toucans flying around, in the morning awakened with the Howler monkeys sounding like King Kong. They were swinging from branch to branch, eating along their way! New experience!!! The lizards in the house were cute chasing the insects on the ceiling. Speaking of insects, there were no mosquitoes, amazing! We had a visit from a hummingbird in the living room. We gently removed him, it chirped when released. I think it was a thank you!!! The layout of the house is spacious and comfortable. The pool was great, fairly hidden from the neighboring house. Since it was warm, it was perfect to jump in at all hours of the day or night! Everything was just perfect. The experience was fabulous, definitely a different type of vacation which I would repeat in a heartbeat.

Loved it

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of 4- two adults and 2 children age 6 and 8.

We all loved staying at Casa Toucan. Very spacious rooms, open plan, view on the ocean over lush jungle. Space, air, bird calls, guttural monkey sounds- indescribable! Truly a place to relax and enjoy every minute. Pool is great, water is warm and clean, no chlorine smell.

House is very clean as well. It is also very spacious and very comfortably furnished in a great taste.

We found everything we need for a comfortable stay. The owners provided beach towels and toys, huge collection of DVDs (but only few for kids), paper towels, even laundry detergent was provided!

Even thought the house is in the middle of a jungle we have not had wild life crawling around the house. We saw a tiny lizard inside a few times, I think it was anole.

Outside we saw toucans and lizards. Heard but seldom saw monkeys.

Waterfall a little ways from the house is beautiful and the water is deep enough for swimming. Last few steps to the fall are quite steep but manageable.

Staying at Casa Toucan was great. We definitely got the value for our money.

The title describes it perfectly

  • 5 of 5

Casa Toucan is an amazing jungle get away with plenty to do in the surrounding area. The 3mile drive up and down the road, can be tiring after a while, but well worth it. Plenty of activities, beaches and restaurants within 30 minutes of the house.

The house itself is very comfortable and spacious with a great view. Fall asleep to the sounds of the jungle. The kitchen has just about everything you need to cook a meal for 6 or 7 people, and there is a grill outside. Having a washer/dryer was a bonus. There is also a property management team to assist you. They have great recommendations, are easily available, and very kind.

Owner's Response: So glad you all enjoyed your vacation and thank you for taking the time to write this review. One small correction. The distance from town up to the house is 2 miles, not 3.

From the Owner

Uvita is right in the middle of the Southern Pacific Zone and therefore makes it much easier to see everything that this part of Costa Rica offers.

From the Owner

We feel right in the jungle with peace and quiet, listening to howler monkeys and toucans instead of chickens and radios.
