Large family home in rural area only 5 miles from town.
About Melissa Moore
My husband and I retired June 2018 and have been traveling the country full-time in our RV. During the summer we live in our RV on the property and handle the rental management ourselves. The rest of the year, our dear friend, Brittany, is our Property Manager. Les is a retiree of IBM after 37 years. I have had a career in business management for 30 years with the past 15 in healthcare. We have two grown children; one living in Charleston, SC, and the other in college at Elon University in NC. We are avid motorcyclists with 2 bikes each and have enjoyed traveling the roads of New England. We have an off-the-grid camp in the woods in central Vermont and love to spend time there with our family. We are glad to share our home with you and look forward to helping plan your next trip to VT.
Melissa Moore purchased this Condo in 2009
Why Melissa Moore chose Ferrisburgh
Les and I bought this property because it was unique and fit the needs of our family. The house would typically be described as a duplex however, as each "side" owns their own half, it is identified as a condo. We adore our neighbor, John, and have shared in the upkeep of this property with him for almost 10 years. The house is 2600 square feet and has been well maintained. Most recently we upgraded our main floor bathroom in order to install a second shower for our renters. Brand new bamboo flooring has been installed in the upstairs bedrooms. Most rooms have been freshly painted and decorated. We chose Ferrisburgh because it was half-way between where Les worked (Essex, VT) and where I worked (Middlebury, VT) while at the same time being central to the kid's school. It is a great community and it has been the perfect place to raise our family.
What makes this Condo unique
For me, the best thing about this property is that it is set in the country but is still only a few miles to the Vergennes and Middlebury. I get the rural atmosphere without needing to travel far to get groceries or attend school events with my kids. Burlington VT, our state's largest city, is only 30 minutes away providing us easy access to all its amenities. The second best part is our neighbors. We have a wonderful relationship with the man who owns the other "side" of our condo (John).

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I cant say enough good things about this home, the area, and the owners. The house is quiet and cozy, in an area close to anything you want to do in Vermont. The owner was always quick to respond to my questions and was very helpful in letting me know of fun local things to do (without even having to ask). Chalk boards throughout the house listing fun things to do was a cute touch ;)
Thank you so much for staying with us. We hope the fishing was good. We're so glad that you enjoyed our home. Please keep us in mind for future trips to VT. Best wishes, Melissa & Brittany
Wonderful rental experience!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Melissa and Les’s Ferrisburg country home! The immaculate house—very convenient to Vergennes, Waltham, and Middlebury—was large and provided ample space for the 6 adults and 2 children staying there for 4 nights. Plenty of towels, extra sheets, pillows, hangers etc were provided. I’ve never stayed in a rental with as many other amenities, from toiletries to spices, snacks and garden fresh zucchini—and even a few adult beverages! Thank goodness for the Keurig and Kcups which kept us going between several late night wedding events! Melissa and Les’s home was outstanding and their friendliness and generosity and very much appreciated! I sure hope they plan to continue renting as we’ll be returning every year and can’t imagine staying elsewhere! Many thanks, Melissa and Les! Debra Backus
Thanks so much for this fabulous review. I always love to hear that our renters love our home as much as we do. Thank you for choosing our rental. We would be glad to have you visit again. Take care.
Great Family Get-Away!!
The home was spacious and cozy and had everything we needed! The owners were gracious and welcoming and very easy to deal with. The home was close to everything our family wanted to do and we really enjoyed our stay. We would definitely stay there again if available!
Thank you so much Janet. We are so glad that our home worked out for you. Please come back and visit again soon. Best wishes, ~Melissa
Home Away From Home
Melissa was great to work with in regard to responding quickly to all of my questions about the property and area! Her beautiful home was Central to everything we wanted to do, which included fishing, hiking, shopping on Church St, nature cruise on Lake Champlain/beach and swimming, and the Green Mountain Forest. The home was a great place to relax after our busy, fun-filled days---so very beautiful, clean, and quiet. Melissa provides so many amenities that she wouldn't have to, which made our stay even nicer!!! Thank you so very much, Melissa!!! I highly recommend staying at this property!!!
Thank you so much. We are so glad that our home worked well for you. It was nice to meet you. Please come back and visit us again soon. Best wishes.
I was impressed that this home had everything you would need as you stay away from your home. I found it very comfortable, roomy, and clean. The owners did a great job. I would highly recommend this place.
Dear Brian, Thank you so much for the great review. We are so glad that our rental worked for you. Please keep us in mind should you come back to VT. Maybe next time, you can come for pleasure instead of for work. I hope you and your family enjoy the holidays. Take care, ~Melissa
Skiing and snowboarding opportunities are only 30 miles away at the Middlebury Snow Bowl and Sugarbush Resort. Middlebury College also offers a great cross-country ski center at the Rikert Nordic Center. You can also take off on snow shoes right from our home and explore the woods and fields by our home.
The city of Vergennes has many great restaurants and is only 10 minutes from our home. They also have a library, antique shops, clothing and jewelry stores. They have the Vergennes Opera House with regularly scheduled events. The local high school has great plays once a year.
Basin Harbor Club is close by for golfing.
The town of Middlebury has many breweries, distilleries (including Whistle Pig Whiskey) and a winery. They also have the Town Hall Theatre which has lots of great events. They have a movie theater and lots of great stores for shopping.
The roads in Ferrisburgh are excellent for biking and/or running. There are regular bike rides and running events happening around us all the time.
Mt Philo is just down the road and is an excellent hike. Snake Mountain isn't too far either and is great challenging hike.
The Vergennes Boat Dock on the Otter Creek is just down the road and provides an access to Lake Champlain. You can dock your boat there if you want to visit us via the water. This creek is also good for kayaking and fishing.
The Ferrisburgh Town Beach is also down the road where you can swim, fish or kayak on Lake Champlain. Next to it is Kingsland Bay State Park which is great for a day at the beach or a picnic.
The Ferrisburgh Elementary School has an outside skating rink in the winter. Middlebury College (only 16 miles away) opens the college ice rink weekly for the public and is a great place to skate.
We have many museums close by including Shelburne Farms (19 mls), Shelburne Museum (17 mls), Lake Champlain Maritime Museum (9 mls), Rokeby Museum (6mls), Vermont Folklife Center (16mls) and the Mahaney Center for the Arts at Middlebury College.
Middlebury College has some excellent athletic teams and all games are open to the public. Most are free. Their ice hockey games are very popular. We love the men's and women's basketball teams.
If you like high school football, the Middlebury Tigers have an excellent team. Our son used to be the starting quarterback. They have won many state championships.
My dad is an avid fly fisherman and recommends the Otter Creek and the New Haven River. Both are close by.
Vermont is a lovely state and touring the roads on motorcycles is one of our most favorite things to do in the summer and fall. If you are a skilled rider, be sure to go over the Appalachian Gap. It's an awesome road. New York state is right across the lake and has some excellent roads through the Adirondack Park. In VT, be sure to check out Route 100; it's picturesque VT.
VT has some lovely foliage and touring our state in October is very beautiful. Come ride your bike, drive your car or ride your motorcycles. You won't be disappointed.
In the early spring it is maple syrup season in VT. There are many local sugar houses and they all have open houses during the season. Our neighbor's grandson provides our guests with a small sampling of his syrup for you to have while staying with us. See our neighbor John if you wish to purchase more.
