The Santa Barbara Secret Getaway - Two Blocks to Beach & Town

Property Details

Updated: Oct 23, 2016
1 King Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 1-3)

The Secret to the Secret Getaway is its location, quality and price. Why stay in the nicest hotel suite in town, when you can have much more, for significantly less money?

We are located two blocks from the Beach, Stearns Wharf, Public Pool, Harbor, world-class dining, and downtown shops, including our own local Farmers market. Leave your car and parking worries behind. We even offer RARE off street reserved parking.

Within blocks are a European deli and market, bakery and sandwich shop, three wineries and a grocery store leaving little need to leave the neighborhood. In addition there are bike rentals, Segway rentals, peddle surrey rentals, a skate park, the Chase Palm Park with a merry-go-round and the site of a craft fair each Sunday that lines the beach boardwalk. The Santa Barbara Zoo and the Bird Sanctuary are an easy mile and half walk. If you are traveling to Santa Barbara by train the Secret Getaway is two blocks from the train station and there is a car rental agency two blocks away in case you want to explore the Santa Ynez Valley wine country. If you are tired of walking, all of these attractions can be reached by a local 25 cents-a-ride shuttle bus that runs up State Street and along the ocean front from the harbor to the zoo.

The Secret Getaway is new and resides in a historical turn of the century building that retains the charm of the day’s bygone. It has been lovingly restored to reflect the true authentic Santa Barbara style. The beautiful limestone floors, faux painting and ten feet ceilings all give it a romantic and European feeling.

The bright kitchen is fully equipped, including spices, with granite counter tops, all appliances and your own washer and dryer.

The bathroom is immaculate with custom stone work throughout, a built in Jacuzzi tub, separate large walk- in shower and Santa Barbara style cabinets with matching granite.

The living room has a Waterford fireplace, comfortable couch (queen sleeper), 42' HDTV which replaced the smaller one in the picture, DVD and stereo. Complimentary wireless internet access is also available for your convenience. The bedroom offers a king-size feather top bed with luxury linens.

The bedroom and kitchen each have eight foot glass doors that lead to the your own veranda where you can enjoy the California sun, complete with Bistro set, potted flowers and gas grill.

For your convenience we also offer private reserved parking and a washer and dryer in the Secret Getaway. Everything you need to complete your stay.

Also a helpful hint when comparing: We are not on a commercial thorough fare or next to the highway or railroad tracks. We are in a nice residential neighborhood.

review secret getaway

We very much enjoyed our stay in Santa Barbara, a lot because of the nice apartment. The Secret Getaway is a wonderful place to stay, so close to the beach and downtown. We also liked the perfectly equipped kitchen that had as cook more often than we had actually planned, enjoying the small terrasse in the evening sun. Just perfect.

A perfect Retreat

  • 5 of 5

I spent a week in this lovely apartment and enjoyed every aspect of it (ok I did have a love/hate relationship with the enormous sofa but plenty of pillows are provided to help you get cozy). The apartment was immaculate. The kitchen not only has new appliances but a very nice quality cookware and I didn't look for any type of pan that I didn't find. With granite counter tops it was not only easy to keep tidy but was very attractive as well.

The bed ... OMGOSH the bed ... FAB-U-LOUS! You will get some great sleep on that bed. And although the closet is small, I think there would be plenty of room for clothes for two. Was nice to find a fan in there when I wanted to have the air moving at night.

And then there is the bathroom. It's enormous ... a huge jacuzzi tub, a beautiful shower with two heads, and two counter tops in case there are two of you getting ready for the day.

I too initially felt the the abundance of glass gave a little too much exposure but you are indeed only exposed to other residents and that turned out being kind of nice. A very quiet and safe neighborhood so I kept the windows open to the wonderful spring breezes the entire time I was there. And if you feel the need for extra privacy, every piece of glass has a blind to completely cover it. There was also a nice gas grill on the kitchen balcony and a bistro table and chairs. I seriously never felt I needed anything that I wasn't able to find in the apartment.

As other reviewers have stated, there are so many things to do and see within walking distance, but since I had a rental car, I found it wonderful to have an assigned parking space just feet from my front door. I only had to lug luggage up around 4 stairs so it was a very sweet deal. The next time I return to Santa Barbara, I will definitely request this apartment.

As a side note, I have only been back home four days and already received my security deposit back. Just don't think you can go wrong here unless you are there during a heat wave. No AC might be a problem then but it wasn't during my stay. Five stars all the way!!

Great find!

  • 5 of 5

We just spent 3 nights at the "Secret Getaway" and it was perfect! Everything from the comfortable king sized bed and lovely bathroom, to the nice kitchen helped make our stay so enjoyable! It is also within walking distance to State Street and just a couple of blocks to the West Beach area. I would definitely come back and stay here again!

Couldn't Be Better!

  • 5 of 5

We spent two weeks at "Secret Getaway" and it couldn't have been better! The location is absolutely perfect. The West Beach area of Santa Barbara has a homey neighborhood feeling, but is two short blocks to the beach, as well as just a few blocks downtown to amazing shopping and a particularly beautiful retro movie at Nuevo Paseo Mall. The neighborhood is totally safe, and there's a modest grocery store on the corner a block away. There are many (and I mean many) wonderful restaurants within a comfortable walk. The bluff overlooking the ocean from the area called the Mesa is close. People are friendly.

The building itself is beautifully updated and maintained. Soundproofing is good between apartments. Airconditioning is unnecessary because there is a wonderful cool cross breeze at night. There is off-the-street parking. The grounds, though small (as they all are in this area) are well-kept. We are admittedly enthusiastic walkers, but anyone could get along fine without a car. We had thought if we wanted to expand our explorations we would rent a car for a day or two, but just never felt the need. We walked several miles every day and never ran out of places to go. The Mission, Santa Barbara Church and museum, the Mesa, parks, downtown, neighborhoods, beaches, Stearns Wharf, East Beach, all just a walk away.

As for the unit itself, we were absolutely thrilled with the kitcheen and bathroom. Both seemed very new, and were meticuously clean. Though we didn't use the large jacuzzi tub (so busy, just never got around to it) it was immaculately clean and added a spaciousness to the bathroom; the large walk-in shower with double heads was wonderful. There is an unusually large amount of counterspace in the bathroom, including a seperate counter top perfect for make-up. The kitchen is also meticulously clean and looks brand new, including the appliances.

Though a prior occupant complained about the proximity of the small patio to the building's passageway, we found that more fun than irritating. Other occupants passing by to the parking area often stopped to chat. And it should be noted this is not a public passageway; it is simply how building occupants get to the parking area.

In summary, Secret Getaway was perfect for our first visit to Santa Barbara and we complimented ourselves numerous times on our excellent choice of a place to stay! You can't go wrong with this place.

Perfect Winter Escape

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Secret Getaway for 5 nights in February and it was everything we hoped it would be. The apartment was the perfect size for the two of us and had everything we needed for a wonderful, relaxing stay. The location was excellent - a couple of blocks from the beach and a nice walk from State Street. We had a car (and appreciated the off-street parking) but we didn't use it at all during our stay. There is a wonderful little supermarket just a couple of blocks away (we stocked up on breakfast supplies so we could enjoy ours on the little patio each day) as well a couple of local restaurants (we got take out from Rudy's and we loved The Brewhouse for drinks!) if you don't feel like venturing out too far in the evening. The kitchen is large enough for two people to move around comfortably while preparing food and we found all of the supplies we needed. The spacious bathroom was very nice and I enjoyed soaking in the tub at the end of the day. We did notice the wireless signal was a little week as one of the other reviewers pointed out, but it really wasn't an issue for us. I don't think there is any question about returning - we'll be back to Santa Barbara and we'll stay here again. It was perfect.
