Since antiquity, the Alpes de Haute Provence is a territory crossed by the transhumance of herds, especially sheep. The herds and their shepherds who came from the north and from Italy to descend into the plain of Crau crossed the plateaux.
They left there many sheepfolds, mostly dry stones, as well as bories.
