I'm a woman of a certain age who moved here from LA where I lived in a canyon so I never saw a sunset or the light at the end of the day. I built on a property that overlooks the ocean and shore, with wondrous sunsets every night. I like to grow things, so have planted all sorts of fruit trees, flowers and vegetables, which I share with guests (as well as with an occasional wild pig) and also sell at the farmers markets. I enjoy meeting people from all over both at the markets and the rental..
Why Judy Schuman chose Kailua-Kona
For the above reasons. I live on the property in a separate structure, so the rental is quite private. The closest house to this property is about 100' away. Because I am on the property, I act as a sort of concierge, with tips and suggestions.
What makes this Apartment unique
I bought this land and built to take advantage of the vast ocean views and since there is a protected dryland forest just below the property, no one can ever build there. Being at the end of the road, there is no traffic and the noisiest thing is the morning birds. Because I like open spaces, I didn't put in a wall to make this a one bedroom apartment so there is about 700' square feet of space. Looking out from the bedroom, living and dining areas there are wonderful ocean views. There is also a private garden for hanging out.

Nice Studio with Kitchenette
Conveniently located east of the airport off of Highway 190 for easy access north to Waimea and south to Kailua-Kona and beyond. The views to the ocean were awesome. Judy was very helpful in making suggestions about what to see and do. Thank you, Judy!!

Good location, and very quiet neighborhood. The owner is very knowledgeable of the environment of Kona.
The property has an outstanding location with beautiful views of the Kona Coast. The unit is surrounded by beautiful plants and trees. The owner, Judy, is a very interesting and gracious lady and we really enjoyed talking with her and appreciated her suggestions on things to do. We also are very thankful to Judy for letting us check out several hours late due to our late flight. We were a little disappointed that condition of the unit was not as nice as the photo on VRBO shows, which was apparently taken when the unit was newer. We believe the unit could benefit by some updating (painting, cleaning) and if this were done the unit could easily be priced higher.
Some people present themselves as negative.
Apartment was painted 1 1/2 years ago. It is cleaned by a lady from a company that does high end houses on the Four Seasons property.
To the extent that the apartment isn't like the picture on the website , it's that coverings on the bed are changed to reflect the feeling of and temperature of the season. Beyond that, the Hawaiian sun was unkind to the sofa, so it was replaced with one that was sun-resistant. That was just over 2 years ago.
Other than those color changes, nothing was unlike the picture.

Avoid the traffic in Kona - easy access to Kaloko shopping area and just a short drive to the best beaches and shops on the Big Island (Kohala coast). Only five traffic-free minutes to Makalei Golf Course. The orchard features a walking/jogging path... you can even pick your own papaya for breakfast! Other fresh fruits available in-season. Our property features mango, lime, lemon, papaya, grapefruit, lychee, guava, banana, longan, tangerine, avocado and coffee trees. Pineapple, lilikoi and tropical flowers are abundant.
Golf: Makalei Golf Course is just 5 traffic-free minutes away.
