About Jolene Clarke

Gary and I have lived in Tamarindo since 2001. We drove to Costa Rica with our son and another family from California for the adventure of a lifetime that lives on today. Upon arriving to Costa Rica after our epic three month journey through Latin America, we started a new chapter in our lives. An unlikely couple, Gary is from New Jersey and I, a native Californian, it is our love of travel and adventure that keeps us happy and laughing. Prior to moving to Costa Rica, Gary spent his first career of 30 years in Medicine and I was a teacher and Interior Designer. Once we arrived in Tamarindo laying in hammocks all day for 3 months was just not enough. So, Gary ventured into a new career in real estate to spice things up for the next 10 years. Gary retired once again in 2012 as one of the busiest most successful and well respected realtors in our area. In 2007, when our son Brooks left for college, we were lonely and thought it might be fun to rent out one of our casitas that we used only a couple times a year for family. Little did we know how much fun it would be and the friends we would make along the way. We invite you to come be our guest and see what life is like living in Tamarindo, Costa Rica. We will show you this lovely country and Tamarindo through our eyes and give you, in our humble opinion, the best places to eat and send you on the adventure tours that best fit your vacation style. This is our family business and Gary, Brooks and I take great pleasure and pride in giving you the best vacation we can deliver. Come see us, we would love to have you as our guest. Gary, Jolene and Brooks Clarke

Jolene Clarke purchased this villa in 2005

Why Jolene Clarke chose Guanacaste

We have been traveling to Costa Rica for over 25 years. From the moment I stepped off the airplane on our first trip here I knew we would retire here one day. What we did not know was that the house we originally built to sell would turn out to be our dream home and fulfill my life long desire to have a Bed and Breakfast. We love Tamarindo for its great beaches, sunsets, wildlife, adventure activities and of course the vast array of restaurants. We have traveled all over the world and have never found a beach town we liked more. Tamarindo is small and unspoiled and is one place in Costa Rica and the world where you can go, do and see it all in one place on your vacation. We are the perfect property for honeymooner's, babymooner's, executive surf trips and those looking for a quiet, relaxing or active getaway. Arrive as guest, leave as friends!

What makes this villa unique

Our colonial architecture with furniture, art and accessories from our travels make for a warm, eclectic, welcoming environment. Plus, you can't beat the pool and garden areas to relax after a day at the beach or a canopy tour. You will love your 'Casitas for two,' that was decorated lovingly over the years for your pleasure and comfort. I love how our Villa has many different areas to enjoy, the pool, the rancho, the bistro area and the grand patio, something for everyone. Of course Maria's great breakfast is definitely the icing on the cake each day.

Our best vacation EVER!

  • 5 of 5

Five stars aren’t enough for Villa Andalucia and its proprietors and hosts, Jolene and Gary Clarke. Andalucia is a quaint B&B tucked away in Playa Tamarindo, Guanacasta. We visited in September, the rainy season in Costa Rica; we don’t mind the afternoon rains, it’s more enjoyable for us when there are fewer people visiting. We chose the “Villa” because of the beautiful pictures on line, exceptional reviews and the fantastic price! We were not disappointed! The Casita Seville was gorgeous; Jolene is a fabulous decorator, it was spotless thanks to Maria. Each morning Maria served us a scrumptious breakfast and Jolene and Gary gave us pointers on places to see, directions to get there and/or set up a tour for us. Gary is the encyclopedia of Costa Rica; he knows everything there is to know about restaurants, beaches, real estate and anything else you want to know. We would return “home” after a wonderful day on a tour, snorkeling or just driving up and down the coastline seeing the different beaches, to take a dip in the beautiful saltwater pool, relax and talk about our day. Our hosts were there if we wanted conversation but left us alone unless we invited them. Frankly, I didn’t get enough Jolene and Gary time; they are such awesome people to visit with! My husband and I are great dog lovers and miss our "babies" terribly when we travel but this time we had stand-ins to ease our longing; adorable little Shadow, Ginger and Freida would welcome us each morning and evening, such a sweet way to start and end each day. I would have to say that this vacation was our best ever because of our beautiful casita, the great tips and finding our spectacular new friends Jolene and Gary. I could ramble on but I know you are itching to make your reservations, we’ll see you there next September!

You can't go wrong with this one...

  • 5 of 5

Our stay in Tamarindo for our 25th wedding anniversary was truly an adventure! It started with a tour of Tamarindo where Gary showed us places we didn't want to miss and he was spot on!! We followed his suggestions and were always beyond pleased with his recommendations. Here are a few highlights from our trip: bike ride to Villa Real, kayaking, exploring northern/southern beaches, Hacienda Guachipilin, surfing, panga ride upriver, not to mention the food here is amazing! (Places not to miss: Nogi's, Lola's, Green Papaya, Coco Loco, Witch's Rock Brewery, Langosta Beach Club, Season's, Bula Bula, Monkey LaLa--live music Saturday Night.) Most importantly, our days started at the kitchen table for breakfast with Gary. We debriefed and geared up for the day and broke bread as family. Villa Andalucia is a rare gem and we were, indeed, blessed to have had this opportunity. We will miss Tamarindo but especially, we will miss the camaraderie we shared with Gary during our week in Costa Rica. We cannot thank you enough for hosting our stay!

Anniversary at Andalucia

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I just returned home from an amazing week in Tamarindo. Gary and Jolene's home and guest homes leave me at a loss for words. From the moment we booked (several months in advance), Jolene was helpful, quick to respond and paid attention to every detail. She helped us find an amazing photographer, organized airport transportation, made dinner reservations and made us feel at home. From the description of the accommodations to what to pack made this an easy trip from the start. Our guest house was immaculate, comfortable and attention was paid to every detail. Jolene and Gary have a plethora of travel memories that adorn the grounds of their home. We felt at home due to Gary's tour of the town and willingness to make our stay exactly what we wanted. From years of experience both Gary and Jolene can offer the best advice on what excursions to take, where to eat and things to avoid. The breakfasts were delicious (gracias, Maria), along with every other meal we ate in Tamarindo. For such a small town, it has such an international flare of cuisine. Villa Andalucia is centrally located and makes walking (we did not rent a car) to restaurants and shopping quite easy. Without hesitation we will stay again! We had such an amazing trip and are already "home sick" for Costa Rica. Thank you, Gary and Jolene for going above and beyond our expectations. Your home is absolutely beautiful and I hope that future guests will enjoy their stay as much as we enjoyed ours. ¡Pura Vida!

Owner's Response: Thank you Kristi and Richard for this loving, kind review. It was a pleasure from the start communicating with you. You are a beautiful kind couple who with twins at home, deserved this anniversary getaway. We loved every interaction with you daily and loved helping you with dinner suggestions and adventures. My favorite of all was the luck you deserved for your photo session with Genna. I have never seen a couple have a rainbow present itself the the most perfect moment. Wishing you both many more years of happy marriage and we hope you will return for another special occasion or anytime for that matter. Sincerely, Jolene and Gary

Beautiful property with wonderful hosts!

  • 5 of 5

Wow! This property was so much more than we expected! Jolene and Gary are amazing hosts and their beautiful property reflects their authentic warm and generous spirits. We enjoyed everything from the quiet serenity of the saltwater pool to the gourmet breakfasts. Having been our first trip to Costa Rica we were very much appreciative of their sharing of local knowledge and recommendations of where and (more importantly) where not to go. The property is conveniently located within a short walking distance of Tamarindo Beach and countless restaurants. We plan to return annually for many years to come to stay at this beautiful property and visit our friends Jolene and Gary!!

Best vacation ever!!!!

  • 5 of 5

This vacation was to celebrate mine and my husband's 20 year anniversary and I have to say it was the perfect location to do so. First of all Jolene and Gary made this trip so special by handling everything from booking excursions to suggesting the best places to eat. They know their stuff!!!! Every place they sent us exceeded our expectations! I have to say even as many excursions as we took I still felt like this was a super relaxing trip!! The town is so laid back, no need for ANYTHING dressy! Jolene & Gary's home is gorgeous, extremely relaxing, in a quiet neighborhood and within walking distance to everything! And, Maria's breakfast are amazing!! These people are the most hospitable and accommodating we've ever experienced. We will be going back to stay with Jolene and Gary again and again in our future travels!!! Highly recommend this quiet retreat to any couple wanting a nice place to stay to spend quality romantic time together!! ----The Stegall's from Texas

The design of this property is breathtaking. Every detail and every angle is worth a 1000 photos! Jolene & Gary's warm and welcoming nature made the experience of our vacation complete. Without their open hearts we would have had an entirely different experience. Special thanks to Shadow, Frida & Ginger, an extension of the family and Maria and her crew certainly make the best breakfast in town!!!! Can not thank you both enough!!!!
