This is a home, not simply a gite. An historic property where two couples could easily spend a month
The photos do not do this property justice. The rooms are all quite large and are decorated with furniture (many French antiques) that you would put in your home, not a rental property.
While the structure dates from the 1600s at least, the building retains authentic character and original walls and design but has be updated to have excellent lighting, heat and the best bathrooms I've even seen in France (tiled walk in shower!).
The owner (a French/British couple) greeted us on arrival and gave us a tour of the gardens/grounds...showed us where extra lounge chairs and cushions were to enjoy the outdoors. A nice bottle of Chinon and some homemade jelly was waiting on the counter! The restaurant reccos were excellent!!
The house had books, a few interesting games, cookbooks, and plentiful instructions on all those mystifying French appliances!
The two large bdrms/baths are in separate areas of the house making this perfect for 2 couples. Large dining room tops it off.
If you like "American" space, full amenities, history, looking out at the surrounding open farmland, peace and quiet...this is your place.
My only regret is that I will probably never get to stay here again. It was excellent in all ways and so relaxing.
An idyllic location
We had a delightful short stay with Jacques and Sandi in their beautiful hill top house and garden. After the first night Sandi was away but Jacques was an excellent host and it was fascinating to hear about the history of the domaine and the local area of Chinon. We had a wonderful visit to the magical Chateau at Rivau, the Abbey at Fontenvraud and the Chateau of Villandry. Highly recommended.
Always a pleasure to meet guests who enjoy their stay in the property and appreciate that which the area has to offer.
Two delightful couples that we would love to welcome back
Perfect in every way
Four of us stayed here for three nights in September and we couldn't have been happier. The location is perfect for visiting the area between Angers and Tours; the house is large, comfortable and beautifully furnished; the kitchen is outfitted with everything that might have required, and the hosts were welcoming and helpful. Who could ask for anything more?
We are lucky to be situated in such a historic and interesting part of France, the Loire Valley has much to see and do. We are glad that your stay here helped to make your visit that much more pleasant.
Wonderful! We had a great time here, relaxing and enjoying the cottage and gardens. The cottage is beautifully presented with a kitchen that has everything, comfortable beds and lounge. The kids loved playing in the gardens and we enjoyed the terrace with beautiful sunsets and views. Jacques and Sandi are lovely hosts and the wine, cheese and homemade jam welcome pack was delicious. We visited the fortress at Chinon, Château de Rivau, Château de Brézé, Leonardo da Vinci's house at Château du Clos Lucé, as well as doing some great local bike riding with the family and horse riding at the nearby Château Marcay too. A great holiday and very enjoyable.
Whilst we as adults have always appreciated the garden for its setting and the views it affords, it was great to see kids enjoying it as a space to explore, play and run around in. It's good that the parents managed to have a good time during their holiday also!
Thank you for your comments.
Beautiful & peaceful
We have spent 5 days in Ms and Mr Mesner's property in April. The house is absolutely beautiful, well maintained, nicely furnished. It is also very peaceful, an ideal place to forget about hectic lifestyle we are used to. We enjoyed the garden and the view very much, after a busy day spent visiting castles and Abbeys. Mr Mesner gave us a lot of insightful advice on places to see. It was a trip filled with history and wonder, reflected as well in the solid stone walls of the property.
Ça fait toujours plaisir de recevoir de telles remarques d’appréciation de ce lieu, de notre région et surtout de savoir que nos clients l'ont apprecié et pu en profiter.
Gorgeous property, perfect place to stay!
Jacques and Sandi were gracious hosts and very accommodating. The Chinon area was a central location for touring around with most attractions about 30-60 minutes drive.Certainly appreciated the laundry facilities, BBQ and sunsets on the terrace! So much history on that property and general area to be experienced! You cannot go wrong here!
We are glad you enjoyed your stay and were able to visit/see the places you wanted to. As you state, this area is full of history that covers Important periods for both the French and the British.
