About Tracey Stevens
We have known the area since 2006, when we started to come on family holidays and fell in love with Pont de Barret and La Drome-Provencale! We decided to move here full time when our youngest daughter was 9 and the older ones were at University! We bought a second house 4 kms away in 2012, where we now live and run a successful gite business, 'Les Beaux Chenes'. This year, we have decided to expand our business and diversify by also offering a traditional, historic, stonebuilt village house Our aim is to share our passion for this undiscovered part of France with those who already know the area and to introduce the area to those who have not had the pleasure of visiting before!
Tracey Stevens purchased this House in 2008
Why Tracey Stevens chose Pont-de-Barret
Beside the river Roubion and set over several levels, we fell in love with this traditional stone built house in 2006. Having spent some memorable family holidays here, we loved it so much that when the previous owners wanted to sell, we decided to buy it as a second home! We have walked up almost every hill and mountain the we can see from the village house and love the landscape and the nature.
What makes this House unique
A real hidden jewel, with all the benefits of Provence, with sunflowers and lavender but without the crowds! Beautiful views from the sun terrace, which overlooks the Roman church, the river and the surrounding hills and mountains. The historic building was previously owned by the Chateau and went on to provide accommodation to workers at the nearby silk mill. Today, the properties leading up to the Chateau, comprise houses and apartments. The ancient architecture is interesting, with the knowledge that the buildings have stood thus long, alongside the river Roubion! The bridge at the end of the road is one of the few Roman bridges in tact and the historic Roman village is a pleasure to amble around! The village is 'living' with excellent local commerce, a bar which stays open all year round, a Boulangerie, a Post Office and 3 excellent restaurants.

Pont de Barret is an undiscovered oasis of tranquility with the river Roubion flowing through it. Surrounded by mountains, fields of sunflowers and lavender, this area has all the benefits of Provence without the crowds. A real hidden jewel, it remains largely unknown in spite of its many attractions. It is ideally positioned for walking, cycling, climbing, swimming in the river, exploring the local area, visiting local historic sites or just enjoying the local food, wine and peace. A wonderful retreat to enjoy the calm, the countryside, friendly village life or for the more adventurous, as a base for all sorts of activities. Artists love this area. Lovely mountain walks on your doorstep. Beautiful country roads for cycling, motorscycling or driving.
The Drome is the largest producer of organic produce in France.
The village is extremely well supplied with a Boulangerie and an excellent, friendly Bar Tabac as well as two first class restaurants and a weekly market. There are many other picturesque villages and towns within easy reach with colourful French markets, selling delicious local produce, taking place several times a week.
The village is roughly equidistant from the historic towns of Montelimar, Crest and Dieulefit which are all well worth a visit.
For the more adventurous still, this is an excellent location for sampling different activities with the nearest ski resort just over an hour away and the seaside an hour and a half. Less than an hour from the famous cities of Orange, Arles and Avignon. Vineyards closeby where you can sample the various Rhone wines and a local Cavist at Pont de Barret, where you can visit to sample local produce and discover interesting wines and artisanal beers from the region.
