About bob & judy futrell
Bob is retired law enforcement officer and Judy was a school teacher and hardware retailer. We retired 10 years ago, moved to the NC mountains and built our vacation rentals. We drew on our own vacation experiences and designed and built our rentals to provide you the best vacation possible. We live close by and will be available to take care of any problems or provide local information and directions.
bob & judy futrell purchased this Cabin in 2005
Why bob & judy futrell chose Spruce Pine
Our rentals were designed to be vacation rentals and not just older repurposed dwellings. We built them not just to look nice (which they do), but to be very functional with all the modern conveniences. We have furnished them with everything we could think of to make them comfortable for you. And best of all is the setting. A quiet dead end gravel lane in the middle of the beautiful west north carolina mountains convenient to all the things you come to the mountains for. And did I mention that we are at 3100 feet elevation for a nice escape from the summer heat, but not so high as to be a problem with snow and ice in the winter.
What makes this Cabin unique
From the full length covered front porch with Amish built swing and rockers to the full length rear deck with table, chairs and gas grill and everything in between, you will fall in love with this little log cabin built of native red cedar.

A very nice cabin in a wonderful part of NC
This was our second visit to this cabin and enjoyed our stay almost as much as the first. The weather prevented us from getting to some of the places we had hoped to visit like Mt Mitchell. Owner should either remove DVD player from cabin description or replace the one removed. Fortunately we brought our own Blu-ray player so the lack of the listed player was not a problem for us. The Futrells said they would be happy to drop a player off next day, but we didn't need it. They are easy to work with and we will probably rent the cabin again.
My wife and I came to the cabin after she returned from a 10 month deployment. We were completely thrilled with the location and the cabin. It was just what we needed after such a long time apart. We will definitely be staying again!!
Thank you for the kind words. We would be pleased to have you again.
Can't wait to be back.
Super friendly and easy to rent from. 5/5
We had a few problems because we are in our 70's and the cabin does not have grab bars and does have loose rugs. They didn't advertise as handicap accessible, however, so I can fault them. The other factor that was less than perfect was the bedroom's lack of reading lights and small shelves over both sides of the bed, for holding glasses, a book, an alarm clock, etc. These bedroom additions would be a great improvement.
Very good place to stay. Loved being able to have the dogs with us. Will come back!
We were in awe when we stepped into this cabin! It was decorated very tastefully and equipped with all (and more) of the necessities any traveler would ever need. It was comfortable quiet and peaceful.
the Little Switzerland area abounds in history as well as many other attractions. The area is noted for it's gem mines. A short drive will get you to several great golf courses and as many ski areas. Enjoy the mountain music and crafts made here in the mountains. Hiking, mountain climbing, waterfalls and some of the best scenery anywhere are all around. We are just off the Blue Ridge Parkway which including Skyline Drive has 650 miles of great driving through scenic woods, beautiful valleys, and over mountains with million dollar views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Lots of small quaint mountain towns all along the parkway abound with shops featuring all manner of crafts made here in the mountains. Many opportunities to hear some great bluegrass and mountain music. Stay as long as you want and you still will not be able to enjoy all of it.
Other Activities: gem mining, hiking trails, craft stores and schools, wineries, waterfalls, whitewater rafting.
