Guestbook comments from the owner

Our family of 15 (8 adults and 7 grandchildren ages 7-13) had a spectacular vacation spending the week of Thanksgiving, 2013 at The Five Palms Beach house in Eleuthera. The home is spacious, beautifully decorated and equipped with everything you need (cards, games, movies, videos and plenty of books. We enjoyed long walks on the beautiful private beach and used the Hoby Cat, surf & boogie boards and all the beach toys. Everyone of the staff members could not have been nicer and extremely helpful even the gorgeous beach was raked and cleaned every morning.

We took advantage of the detailed guest book having fabulous & fun dinners at the local restaurants (take extra cash since many do not honor credit cards.) Beryl cooked us scrumptious meals especially her homemade cinnamon breakfast buns and a delicious fresh lobster dinner!! Beryl was also extremely helpful in planning our weeks schedule.

The older children and fathers had a fabulous scuba exhibition with Al. All of us thoroughly enjoyed our day with Flipper starting with cracking the fresh stone crabs at the pool then devouring them for lunch. Flipper then took to another beautiful private beach for snorkeling.

I could go on & on with many more reasons not to miss a trip of a lifetime staying at The Five Palms Beach House.

Many thanks to Susan Keeler and the Schmauder’ s for their continued support and help before and during our vacation!

Home Sweet Home

  • 5 of 5

I have just returned from my fourth stay at Five Palms. That says a lot. If it's not broken, why fix it?

This house welcomes you from the moment you set foot in the door. The decor is amazing and it is even better than the pictures portray. It has everything you would need for a stay at the beach, from beach bags, to coolers, to snorkel equipment. If you packed very lightly you would be fine!

One of the things I like about this house also is that it is centrally located, so if there is something you want to do that is north or south, going in either direction is not that big a deal.

Having a welcome meal delivered on your first night is spectacular and unheard of. What a nice touch. I have rented many houses over the years and Five Palms is the only place to offer that personal touch.

The staff is always available to address any concerns or questions you may have during your stay. Some of our luggage did not make it and Beryl was instrumental in helping us get it, it seems she knows everyone. I touched base with Beryl beforehand and requested some items for the fridge and it was there upon arrival.

The beds are comfortable and plentiful. The house is immaculate and the owners work very hard to keep it that way.

Already checking the calendar for our next stay, and so are the kids. My boys are 16 and 14 now but were younger when we started coming here and they won't even consider another house, or another island. I'm okay with that........

Awsome, Excellent Vacation, Perfect for Family

  • 5 of 5

"Awsome" to quote one of the many superlative positive compliments members of our family of 18 used to describe our 2 week stay at 5 Palms. Three generations ranging in age from 5 to 75+ all had a wonderful time due in a great part to the facilities (just as shown in pics), but also to great local support from Beryl, Keva, Peter, CJ, et al. Without exception all 18 of us recommend 5 Palms!!

Making the reservation for the property with Susan Keeler was great and easily the most positive experience we have had arranging for our family vacations.

Our activities focused on the ocean including body surfing, snorkeling, spear fishing, cliff jumping, etc. but also included exploring caves and pool time at 5 Palms as well as exploring the island. We liked the 5 Palms location on the beach on the Atlantic side of the island sheltered by off shore reefs. The breeze kept insects away and the reef kept the ocean friendly and safe.

If you are thinking about vacationing at 5 Palms, but have not made your mind up yet, just do it. You will not regret it!

Amazing Vacation Home/Felt like our own!

  • 5 of 5

Three families (7 adults and 10 kids) rented this beautiful home for 5 days. I just looked through the photos again and I can assure you that the home is exactly like the photos depict it. All the furnishings, décor, bedding, etc... are very nice. The kitchen appliances, dishes and cookware are top of the line. We were supplied with bath and beach towels, shampoo/conditioner, soap, hairdryer, paper-goods, etc... There wasn't a single thing that we needed that wasn't available.

Susan, made the scheduling so easy and replied promptly when I had questions leading up to our trip. She was gracious and easy to work with.

We chose to have Beryl cook for us (breakfast, lunch and dinner for 3 of our days). For me, that was the best part. Beryl and I communicated via e-mail beforehand to plan an easy menu that all would enjoy. She did all the shopping before we arrived and came promptly each day to prepare our meals. I so enjoyed visiting with her and hearing her stories. I felt like she gave me a true glimpse of the Bahamian people/lifestyle. She is a treasure!!

My husband and 4 kids (12-15 yrs) scheduled a scuba 'resort course' with Al and Daryl at Ocean Fox Cotton Bay. My husband is an experienced diver but none of the kiddos had ever dove before. They all had fun and felt successful and now my son is planning to get his scuba certification.

The other kids enjoyed the kayaks, surf boards, hobie cat, and body boards (provided). The boys spent lots of time passing a football they brought from home as well as playing Frisbee. When we needed a break from the sun we ALL took time to work on a few jigsaw puzzles (provided). The kiddos watched movies every night after dinner and the adults visited, listened to the extensive music selection, played dominos and did some star-gazing.

The view from the main living space (dining area) was absolutely the most beautiful. We enjoyed just sitting under the tiki hut and watching the waves for hours. A couple of us scheduled massages. The massage therapists (Tocina and Ramone) set-up under the tiki hut by the pool. Best massage ever!

The housekeepers came twice while we were there but came in and quietly and efficiently took care of business. We wouldn't have known they were there except for the sparkle that was left behind.

I would absolutely have no hesitation in recommending this rental to anyone. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!!!

A great house for a large family vacation

  • 5 of 5

As you can see from the other reviews, this is a great house and a perfect spot for a large family vacation. Instead of rehashing all that, here are a few tips and other information.

Getting there. Five Palms is located on the ocean side just north of Tarpum Bay. The closest airport is in Rock Sound, about 20 min south. Governor’s Harbor airport is about 35 minutes north. Bahamas Air and Pineapple Air fly from Nassau to Rock Sound. These airlines can leave baggage in Nassau, so put a bathing suit in your carry on. Peter, the house manager, will pick you up from these airports (8 people max). Flying into North Eleuthera will require a 1 hour cab trip.

Meals. Food is expensive on Eleuthera, but most things are available. You should consider packing things like coffee or snacks. There are two small markets in Tarpum Bay and a larger one in Rock Sound. You might consider packing a cooler with frozen meats, even if you plan on having Beryl cook. Cooking your own meals is the cheapest option. The house has most spices. Next least expensive is take out, with Barbara’s probably the best option. Then comes having Beryl cook dinners, or all meals, but for this she asks you to bring meats from the US. There are a few nearby restaurants, you need reservations for a large party. Dinner is provided on the first night.

Getting around. The house can rent you either a 12 passenger van or an SUV. If you plan on traveling away from the house this is a good option. Cabs are expensive. Car rentals available in Tarpum Bay, but for $70/day you get a rent-a-wreck.

Alcohol. Liquor is expensive and not everything is available in the liquor stores, the largest close one being in Rock Sound. The duty free store in the waiting area in Nassau is cheaper and you can have them pack four or five bottles in a case to bring on the plane. Beer is over $40/case for local beer. Wine is less expensive. Also the house has wine you can purchase.

Cell phones, TV and internet service. There is cell phone coverage on the island. Peter will give you a local cell phone to use. If you plan to use your phone for maps or web away from the house, you should consider buying a one month plan. Connections to the internet at the house is slow if many people are simultaneously using it. The house has Direct TV, but no network (ABC, NBC, CBS) service.

Fishing. Don't plan on supplying dinner by the fish and lobsters you catch. Both are challenging to catch from the beach.
