We have a 2 bedroom rustic cottage Evergreen (it is rustic - please take note) that has undergone extensive remodeling in 2008 and a brand new luxury cottage on the Lake Michigan Beach (Sandpiper) in North Muskegon, Michigan. The beach of Lake Michigan along the western shore of Michigan is termed 'The Gold Coast,' and is truly an undiscovered pleasure. The beach is composed of the most wonderful, fresh water sand that you will find anywhere in the world. NOTE: The calendar shows only Sandpiper reservations!
We have one 2 bedroom cabin that is available during the summer months, completely furnished, and has just been totally remodeled. It now has a TV with a DVD player as well. Available weekly from May 1 to October 15. NOTE: The VRBO calendar is updated but may have recent changes - please phone Jill at 231-855-4118 for the latest availability.
Welcome to our BRAND NEW cottage, Sandpiper, that has been completely rebuilt! This new cottage re-defines luxury on the beach. Enjoy it's 'wall of glass' overlooking the beach! The cottage is entirely new, designed by an award winning interior designer from Europe. Once you experience Sandpiper, we are certain that you will agree that there is no finer cottage available on Lake Michigan beach!
There are a variety of activities located nearby, including Michigan's Adventure Amusement Park, the Frauenthal Center, (offering live performances), restaurants, golf courses, and of course, all forms of water sports and activities. We are striving to bring service on the beach to new, improved levels. Come experience the change!
Come and enjoy the sunsets!
All prices are subject to 5% occupancy tax and 6% sales tax. We supply blankets, pillows: we ask that you furnish your own linens. There are no laundry facilities. Sorry, no pets!

We just returned home after spending the weekend in Sandpiper. To us, it was a dream come true...being at a cottage right on Lake Michigan. The weekend was a gift from our children celebrating our recent retirements. We enjoyed the sunshine, beach and sunsets. Everything you would need was provided except towels and linens. It is very well decorated in beautiful colors. We will be promoting your cottages to our friends and family.
We were delighted with Sandpiper for a long weekend getaway. With a nice view to the Lake, a wood deck with picnic table right outside the wall of windows and the added primo viewing spot on top of the dune, we lucked out with this pick! Only a couple of dozen steps down the dune to the beach for miles of walking. We happened to time our visit with the recent eclipse making the trip all the better. It was clean and in good condition; parking is close (~75 feet?) and bringing things inside was made easier with the big wagon there for that purpose. Thank you...we'll likely be back soon!
These properties are truly paradise on earth ! We have stayed in Sandpiper at least 3 times, over the years and each time loved it a little more. Even the Evergreen is adorable... thoughtfully planned out in terms of the smaller space but still extremely close to the beach. We loved being right on Lake Michigan and seeing & hearing the crash of the waves each day and evening for sunset cocktails, at the fire pit, or with the windows & sliding doors open. The accommodations are extremely comfortable and most definitely luxury for beach house accommodations. We also loved the privacy & natural setting with beautiful trees surrounding us. The window boxes that Jill beautifies the properties with are always an added bonus ! In addition, I am a bit of a Foodie so I cooked in the kitchen quite a bit. I loved that the owners had provided for everything that was needed (I think I only brought my favorite Wusthuf sharp knives and a few extra fans to bring in the cool Lake Michigan air at night). The full size beds were comfortable too. As far as the reviewer who only gave 2 stars, due to the "owners" having friends visit the lake front ~ Wow... ! I have to say that only on a few occasions, during each of our trips, were we fortunate to be able to meet this lovely family & their friends and share in the fun with them on the beach. We consider ourselves blessed for being able to meet them and wish we could have seen them more. They are the nicest family & most hospitable to their guests... No way intrusive. Plus the beach front is huge, so is the property & the lake front frontage. More than enough for everyone, for sure ! As far as sand getting in the house, as this reviewer mentioned, this is the beach and it happens especially if you have children. Use their outdoor water to rinse your feet ! The owners have accommodated the property with a deck around the home. As far as unloading suit cases, groceries, etc. we just backed our vehicle up to the property, unloaded on the deck and then parked but the parking is VERY close and there are great wagons. Just saying .... In light of all the great reviews they have on this property, it bothered me to see that review. I just had to comment. If you love amazing accommodations in a beautiful natural setting, book this place.... You will not regret living a week or even two on beautiful Lake Michigan in an amazing natural setting ! Do it :)
My family of four just returned from 5 days at this wonderful cottage... it was everything we hoped it would be. The views of the lake from the cottage are just gorgeous, and they have plenty of room for a fire pit, outside eating as well as an impressive overlook that we enjoyed the amazing sunsets from each night. The inside of the cottage is very nicely furnished, you can tell that the owners really take the time to make you feel at home and provide anything you need. The space is very well laid out and it's open kitchen/dining/living room allowed for plenty of shared family time, without feeling cramped. The water was still pretty cold as we expected, but the sun and sand were warm and inviting. The sunsets are second to none, and drew us out of the cabin for hours each night.
Just another tip, if you have kids/teens add Michigan Adventure Park to your list, the coasters and water rides were thrilling, park was clean and not too crowded. We also traveled north to do a dune ride, and took in a few small towns along the way. We are in love with this area, and plan to return!
Give this one a chance, you will not be disappointed.
The Sandpiper Cottage is very well appointed and cozy and the location is perfect. The beachfront is gorgeous and uncrowded and it never felt as though we were sharing the space with the owners or guests from the other cottages. We had GORGEOUS views of the sunset and lovely bonfires around the fire pit every night.
The photos accurately represent the rooms, the decor and the scenery. The beds are full sized beds, not queens and they do fill up nearly all the space in the bedrooms with no additional floor space for an air mattress. I would recommend the cottage for a party of 4, rather than 6, as the third sleeping area is the roll-out sofa in the living room. The living room is the area shown in the photos and the sofa bed is also the only sofa so it's not ideal for use as a third bedroom all the time. The sofa bed is best for a one-time overnight guest or small children.
We had a party of 6 adults and had no problems sharing one bathroom as it is a nice size. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking utensils and is laid out well for several people to be working in it at once. This is really a place to spend time in the outdoor spaces and on the private beach, though, as it is very small. It rained one day during our trip and it was hard to share such intimate space with 6 adults, however 2 couples could be completely comfortable.
We are a late night group and we were very lucky the neighbors in the Evergreen Cottage never complained. I would recommend larger groups (or potentially loud groups) also reserve the Evergreen Cottage for the additional space and privacy. Loading in groceries is not super easy, but if you are wearing the right shoes the walk is not that bad. There is ample firewood on site for evening camp fires and the garbage and recycling are emptied daily, which is a nice feature as I have stayed at other properties that offered no firewood or trash service.
The one thing guests should prepare for is the lack of internet or cell phone service. Although not a rustic cabin, the location IS remote and we had no cell phone or internet service the entire stay. Some cell service could be acquired at the end of the driveway but for most internet usage we had to drive about a half a mile to the Red Rooster Tavern to try to get a signal. Anyone needing to work while on vacation should plan ahead for this.
This is a great place to relax and unplug and enjoy the beauty of a Michigan Summer.
My Mom and I began our beach vacation experience at Sandpiper in July of 2010, exactly 6 months after my Dad passed away. We just needed a quiet place where we could reflect, read a book, lay on the beach, and enjoy family time together. That is exactly what we got!
Only 28 steps to the beach? Perfect! A fire pit? Perfect! A charcoal grill? Perfect! Time with our family? Priceless!
The cottage was immaculate, the view was amazing and the wagon for moving our stuff in was so helpful, and the owners: Rob & Jill Hansen: PRICELESS! :)
We came back in 2011 and can't wait to get back to "our" SANDPIPER in 2012!
Thank you so very much to the Hansens!
