Swedish Cottage is situated directly on beautiful Joy Bay on the scenic Schoodic Peninsula. This is the "Down East" area of Maine known for its simpler and authentic Maine lifestyle and incredible natural beauty. If you are looking for a quiet and peaceful retreat with a lot of opportunities to interact with Maine's stunning landscape, this is the perfect location for you.
The cottage is situated on five acres of waterfront property and is located at the end of a private dirt road. Many windows provide great views of the bay and surrounding pines. Swedish Cottage also provides great water views from the screened-in porch and outdoor seating area with LLBean Adirondack chairs and fire pit overlooking the water.
The screened porch provides a water view along with comfortable Polywood deep seating furniture. In addition, a gas grill for cooking is located right outside the porch.
Swedish Cottage is a free-standing post and beam house with a bedroom downstairs (2 twins) and an open loft upstairs (1 queen). Please note that the upstairs loft w/ queen bed has an a/c unit but the downstairs bedroom does not.
There is a full bath with a walk-in shower located on the first floor.
The cottage has an open floor plan in the living area with large windows which create a bright and open space with water views.
While there is a smart TV and wifi, there is no cable/dish service so if you are wanting to watch TV, consider bringing your Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV Stick, passwords, etc.
The kitchen is well-equipped and open to the rest of the house. A gas fireplace stove provides warmth on chilly mornings.
A public boat launch for kayaks, canoes, and motorboats is located nearby along with the the picturesque villages of Milbridge, Sorrento, Gouldsboro, and Winter Harbor. These communities offer plenty of places for hiking, art, dining, and fresh seafood. Small and quiet, these communities have that classic "Down East" feel and contain excellent views of working fishing harbors and the natural beauty of the Maine coast. In addition, the local "Schoodic Arts for All" provides a variety of events, workshops, and performances during the summer.
Near the property are several scenic byways to help you better enjoy and experience the "Down East" feel- Schoodic, The Bold Coast, Acadia All-American Road and Blackwoods. Enjoy a 45-minute boat ride from Winter Harbor to downtown Bar Harbor. Once there enjoy the Shore Path, outstanding restaurants, and fun shops or hop on the Island Explorer-a free shuttle bus which services Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park.
Best of all, Swedish Cottage is only 14 miles from the Schoodic section of Acadia National Park! Acadia National Park is a national treasure with spectacular views and abundant natural habitats. While visiting the main section of Acadia is a must, many prefer the Schoodic section of Acadia because it is more secluded and less crowded. It includes fascinating geographical features, a one-way park road that hugs the coast, picnic areas, trails for hiking and biking, and most importantly, Schoodic Point. Schoodic Point provides one of the best places to view the pounding Maine surf along with views of Cadillac Mountain.
Swedish Cottage is a great location for those looking to enjoy and experience the beautiful Maine scenery and for those who want to explore the many activities of the Down East area.
