About this property

Stay in a 16th century three story home in the Provence countryside.

Our place is situated between Sisteron and Laragne in the old farming village of Mison.
Walk through the peaceful countryside of Mison, located in Alps-de-Haute-Provence. Pick the fresh herbs from the herb garden.

This three story home has all of the charm that one would expect from a 16th century Provence farmhouse. Some natural walls, original tiles and beams and fantastic views! The street floor has a kitchen, kitchen table, reading nook, half bath, washer machine and cave for cool storage. The 1st floor (in the US we would call this the second floor) includes a living room, dining room, master bedroom with two single beds (in some photos, the beds are put together for a king size bed), a full bathroom, large closet, desk and chair, back terrace, and plenty of storage. The 2nd floor (or what we call the 3rd in the US) has a double bed with desk. The patio in the front has outdoor seating.
This year we also have a few chickens in a fenced in pen next to the yard. So maybe some free eggs if they are laying.
Children are welcome but must be 13 or older as stated in our policies.

Wunderbare Woche

About the host

Hosted by Jim and Sue Keating

Host profile image
We, Jim and Sue Keating have been married for over 55 years. We retired after 15 years of organic farming in 2012. Prior to that Jim was a university professor for over 30 years and Sue was a homemaker, entrepreneur and local food store manager. We have 4 daughters and 11 grandchildren. After our retirement we spend about half a year each summer at our France property. There are several buildings on the property. We live in the main house and enjoy the quiet rural farm setting, being able to harvest the abundant produce and preserving some of the fruits from the property.

We have renovated the old three story farmer's house and part of the old barn into a modern efficiency apartment. We now rent these two dwelling during the summer while we are in France when they are not occupied by family.

Why they chose this property

We, Jim and Sue Keating, inherited Les Silves, the family property of Sue's father, Marcel Silve in 1987. The property has been in the family since 1903. Over the past 30+ years we have been coming to France often and making many improvements. Since our retirement in 2012 we have been spending about half a year in France.

What makes this property unique

FROM LAVENDER FIELDS TO WINE COUNTRY, YOU’RE GOING TO LOVE YOUR STAY!
Within an hour or two’s drive, you can make it to Aix-en-Provence for cultural fair, the Verdon Gorge for the “Grand Canyon” of France, the prized Gigandas and the entire Cotes-du-Rhone wine region, and also be in the base of the alps.

At Les Silves we love the great weather during the summer allowing us to enjoy the sunset while having a glass of wine on our terrace most every evening. Of course we enjoy the local farmers markets (3 per week) where you can sample and purchase local foods and delicacies and socialize with the locals and friends. We enjoy the early morning coffee and croissants at local bars. During the summer most small towns in the local area have weekly activities, such as Friday nights in Ribiers there is live music and street dancing. Other activities includes local concerts, presentations, festivals. There is also the Gorges de la Meouge within about 15 minutes where you can swim, picnic or hike.
