~ SAVE 15% when you stay a week; SAVE 35% when you stay for a month! ~

Enjoy romance, seclusion, privacy and gorgeous sunsets, work remotely in your own home-away-from-home with a private entrance in The Heirloom Rose, an upscale spacious studio located in The Victorian Carriage House on an historic rural 20 acre property. Only minutes from the ocean and downtown Ferndale, our spacious 500 sq. ft. studio provides an awesome retreat perfect for one to four guests, amazing kitchen with bar that seats four, complimentary breakfast, deluxe queen bed and comfy plush futon bed.

THE SPACE
With panoramic views all around you, this is the ideal place to experience nature's beauty, glorious scenic sunsets from your wall-to-wall storefront West facing windows, take in sea breezes and unwind. Enjoy our beautiful custom-made gourmet kitchen and breakfast bar with complimentary farm fresh eggs, granola, tasty bakery goods, local fresh coffee and tea. Take our folding chairs out anywhere on the cobblestone paving to maximize your view and shelter you from the wind.

Ready for bed? Cozy up in our ultra-deluxe queen bed with luxurious comforter. We know the importance of a good night's sleep, so two additional guests will enjoy our futon couch with high-quality padded innerspring mattress. Log into your personal Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu accounts or other streaming services to view your favorite shows and movies on our Smart TV. (Who needs cable when you've got streaming?) For lunch or dinner, order a meal-to-go from one of our local restaurants and dine in style under the crystal chandelier while taking in the countryside and sunsets from your glass-front windows. Relax in a spa bubble bath or rainforest shower in our Victorian clawfoot bathtub. (If you have trouble getting in and out of a clawfoot tub this listing may not be for you.)

Experience nature's rhythm right from your door - frogs, birds, the ocean, wild wind, rain, and even our heifer cows in the field - each speaking their own language. Watch the mist swirl around the peek-a-boo sun and the full moon fill the landscape with glorious blue light.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING LONG TERM STAYS
Keeping our studio clean and keeping our guests comfortable with new linens is our top priority! When guests stay longer than 2 weeks we will come in once a week to clean the studio and provide a fresh set of towels and sheets. For this weekly service we charge an additional cleaning fee of $40 per week. This cleaning fee will be requested after a long term stay booking is accepted. Closer to the stay we will also let the guest know which day we will be coming in to clean and provide new linens. Your room's central heating system keeps the temperature 68°. Due to high utility costs, for guests who need their room to be warmer than 70° an additional surcharge will be applied.

YOUR COMFORT IS OUR PRIORITY
The roomy carport-overhang keeps you and your car dry and protected from the elements and only a step away from your front door. Our spacious 500 sq. ft luxury studio apartment is both roomy and functional, with plenty of space for 4 guests, and has everything you need to be comfortable and warm.

In-floor radiant heat keeps the room at a consistent comfortable temperature. Need more warmth? Plug in the portable space heater (please unplug heater when you are finished using it). Need cooling down? Use the 3-speed ceiling fan and/or open the transom window above the store-front door for great ventilation.

Work on your laptop at the counter, glass table, or relax on the cozy sofa. Enjoy your complimentary breakfast and prepare meals in our fully outfitted stylish kitchen. Hang out at the breakfast bar or glass table - your choice!

You will step into the past when you enter our authentic Victorian bathroom. With its all-original 100 year-old porcelain and nickel-plated fixtures, using our bathroom is an experience in itself. Enjoy the serpentine corner sink; soak in the full-length clawfoot tub or relax under the rain-forest shower. Caution: Our antique tub can be difficult for some people to get in and out of. If this is difficult for you, this may not be the place to book.
Snuggle up in our ultra-deluxe queen bed or comfy futon couch that opens up into a full bed with ultra-padded innerspring mattress. High quality soft luxury sheets, freshly laundered duvet comforter, soft and supportive pillows (two per guest) and extra bedding and blankets for cooler or warmer nights, will keep you and your guests pampered and comfortable.

THE PROPERTY
Our rural slice of heaven is a historic 20-acre property situated in the quaint dairy town of Ferndale, featuring a beautiful rustic park-like garden brimming with wildlife, rambling roses, Victorian-inspired hedges, trees, perennial plants, and contented cows grazing in fertile fields. The Heirloom Rose Studio is surrounded by nearly a 1/2 acre of cobblestone paving, providing you ample space to experience panoramic views of the Ferndale Valley, sunrises and sunsets, deer, migratory birds, verdant fields, and grazing cattle.

The eco-friendly rural park-like garden (we use no chemicals or pesticides) adjacent to the carriage house is like a scene from The Secret Garden, somewhat overgrown and wild; a refuge for deer, and a home for many species of nesting birds, beneficial insects, tree frogs and toads. When you see our climbing roses in bloom (during May and June) you will understand why we named our Carriage House studio The Heirloom Rose. Hardy antique roses climb as high as 40 feet on trees and clamor along Victorian-inspired fences and arbors, including our Heirloom Rose-House, a gazebo that feels like a rose-filled Japanese lantern when you peek inside. Hummingbirds flitter among fuschias, honeysuckle and salvias along with honey bees, butterflies and dragonflies.
In Fall and Winter, the back half of the property becomes a refuge for a diverse variety of migratory birds. When we have heavy periods of rain, many of the fields fill with water and it is incredibly beautiful. It is a special treat when flocks of Tundra Swans and Aleutian Geese touch down to rest and feed in the fields, and you can hear their voices as your sleep. We are smack dab in the middle of the Pacific Flyway, and depending on the bird migration route this is a perfect place for bird-watchers to stay.

GUEST ACCESS
Please park under the overhang. There's a lock box on the wall beside the front door. When you are closer to your arrival date we will send you the access code.

HOUSE RULES
**NO SMOKING/VAPING/PARTIES/EVENTS ANYWHERE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE ON THE PROPERTY. If you smoke marijuana, cigarettes or vape please do not book here.
**NO PETS; NO CHILDREN UNDER 12
**PLEASE REMOVE SHOES BEFORE ENTERING STUDIO

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE
In order to take a shower or bath, you have to get inside the bathtub. There are no assist bars anywhere in the bathroom. We don’t recommend booking the studio if you have difficulty getting in and out of a bathtub or need assist grab bars to use the bathroom, tub, or shower.

THE CARRIAGE HOUSE IS ALSO USED BY US
There are no other guests in the carriage house but you. We work quietly upstairs in the craft room and Glenn has a hobby shop downstairs. Your studio is professionally soundproofed. We are respectful of your privacy and are quiet when you are home.

WE WORK ON OUR PROPERTY
We do our own maintenance and repairs. From time-to-time, you might hear mowers, gas powered maintenance equipment, and tractors during the day.

2-ACRE GARDEN
Our large Victorian home adjacent to the carriage house is our private residence and is surrounded by a beautiful 2 acre park-like garden. Please feel free to enjoy our garden and rose gazebo during the day.

FIRE CALL
If you hear a siren sound, it means that the Ferndale fire department is called to action and it alerts volunteers to help someone in need. It also means it’s lunchtime if you hear the fire call at noon.

Carriage House Luxury
What a beautiful and wonderfully inviting place to be based for 2 days and nights exploring the upper coast! There is not one overlooked detail, from the multiple choices of locally roasted coffee, to the fresh fruit and veggies, to the fresh milk/eggs/refreshments in the fridge. We thoroughly enjoyed the Victorian bath and all its nuances and amenities. Food in Ferndale was wonderful as were its residents. I am a “been there, done that” kind of guy but would not hesitate to visit if ever I am in the area again.

I want to thank you for a lovely 3 month stay at the Carriage House Heirloom Rose studio apartment in Ferndale, CA. The Victorian decor is beautiful and the apartment provided a safe, quiet and serene retreat each evening after work. The hosts, Glen and Gail are very friendly and helpful, going out of their way to accommodate my work schedule, which I very much appreciated. Linus, the orange tabby cat, wise beyond his 17 years (and the eight lives that he has used up) escorted me around the beautiful grounds, complete with blooming roses and a myriad of other flowers and foliage. The pastoral landscape with the mountains and cattle in the distance added to the peacefulness of the area, much like would see on an artist's canvas. Linus also introduced me to his two female deer friends and their fawns...absolutely enchanting. I will miss the serenity and peacefulness of Ferndale, the people, and Linus perched high up top of the fence posts surveying his kingdom and awaiting my arrival in the evening when he was not pursuing other more exciting adventures. I highly recommend choosing the Carriage House for a short of extended stay, you will be glad you did. Sincerely, Traveling Pharmacist Linda

Paradise in Ferndale CA
I recently attended a wedding in beautiful Ferndale. I was so pleased to find the Heirloom Rose studio located very close to the wedding venue. I just wished I'd been more clever in my planning and booked some extra days! Everything was perfect, soups to nuts...ease of booking, excellent directions/instructions/communications from the hosts, beauty of the location and the pastoral setting. The studio is breathtaking with antiques, top notch kitchen/cooking equipment, local products, extremely comfortable bed and linens, fast wifi...truly, a welcome and rejuvenating retreat! Additionally, maps and recommendations were provided for reference which I greatly appreciated as my time there was limited. I will be back!

Our family of three and our cat Linus live in a beautiful Victorian home adjacent to The Heirloom Rose (our listing) in the carriage house on our 20 rural acres of pristine farmland. We are excited to be your hosts and to share our love for our scenic and peaceful corner of heaven with you. Since we work and live on the property, we are close at hand to answer any questions and help you feel at home during your stay in Ferndale.

Why they chose this property

We moved from Seattle almost 22 years ago and have never looked back! We were drawn to the rural 20 acre property with unobstructed 360 degree views. The circa 1900 Victorian Queen Anne home we live in is on the National Register of Historic Places. We built the Carriage house in 2000 and completed the Heirloom Rose Studio in 2019 as a retreat for those seeking a respite from their busy lives.

What makes this property unique

Our rural slice of heaven is a historic 20-acre property situated in the quaint dairy town of Ferndale, featuring a beautiful rustic park-like garden brimming with wildlife, rambling roses, Victorian-inspired hedges, trees, perennial plants, and contented cows grazing in fertile fields. The Heirloom Rose Studio is surrounded by nearly a 1/2 acre of cobblestone paving, providing you ample space to experience panoramic views of the Ferndale Valley, sunrises and sunsets, deer, migratory birds, verdant fields, and grazing Heifers (young dairy cows "in training").
