About Trevor Hodgkiss
We bought this empty farmhouse and attached barn in 2004 and spent our holidays to convert a part of the barn into a small gite. We left England and moved into the gite in 2010, and have subsequently completely renovated the whole property to give us a delightful home and two generous sized gites. We now enjoy our new life in this most beautiful setting, and love welcoming guests to share the enjoyment too.

Why Trevor Hodgkiss chose Saint-Just
The property had stood empty for 50 years when we first saw it, however it's setting and surroundings just cried out to be enjoyed. The house was an old farm built in 1836 and stands at the end of a small road at the head of a small outcrop of limestone with four other houses forming the hamlet of Chabrelle. All around are trees and it overlooks the fields of maize or sunflowers down in the valley. There are lovely walks either along the lanes or through the woods, and the wildlife is fascinating. We are just a kilometre out of the village of St Just and 6 kilometres from the little town of La Tour Blanche with it's local shops. For more serious shopping Brantome or Riberac are a short drive away.
What makes this Barn unique
Our property is in a very quiet and peaceful area, great for winding down and relaxing; however there is lots to see and enjoy locally. To ensure your peace and privacy we only rent out one Gite at a time. (Unless you require both together as one party.) We have 2 bikes for our guests, and can arrange bike hire for the more serious riders. We have some maps for walks locally and can recommend places for you to visit.

We had a wonderful week in The Stable. It has everything you could possibly need, is spotlessly clean and very, very comfortable. We had brilliant weather so stayed outside, either on our private terrace or down by the pool soaking up the views (and the sunshine). The local area is gorgeous and the roads (at the end of June) are pretty quiet. Trevor and Christine are on hand if you need them, very helpful but never intrusive. Thanks to them we had the best time and have already booked to go back next year!
The Stables were wonderful
The Stables’s were a lovely home from home. Everything you could need is available. Chez Hodgkiss is in an idyllic location of the beaten track but within a comfortable drive of amenities and local attractions. Chris and Trevor could not be any more helpful.
A most enjoyable week.
We stayed in 'The Stable' but had a look round 'The Barn'. Both gites are lovely and very well equipped (we couldn't think of anything that wasn't provided) including more than adequate cooking facilities and a brand new washing machine in our gite. The TV was tuned to British television, should you feel the need to keep in touch.
Trevor and Chris were extremely helpful and provided advice and suggestions that made our stay all the more enjoyable. Plenty of walks in the area (Trevor lent us a good map) and the roads are quiet making cycling a pleasant experience. The pool was the perfect way to cool down upon our return.
One small disappointment was the fact that the nearest village, St Just, was lacking a bar or cafe. It would have been good to have been able to walk to a cafe for coffee and pain au raisin in the morning but there are a couple only a short drive away.
So we would like to thank you Trevor and Chris, we had a lovely time staying in your gite and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to friends and family.
The Stables is a traditional property at Chez Hodgkiss with an immaculate, up-to-date interior. It has a large bedroom with king-size bed and ample storage. The bathroom has a walk-in shower and washing machine. The spacious through-room comprises of a sitting area, a first rate kitchen and a dining area. Off the kitchen, through the patio doors, lies a private deck area with views of the beautiful garden and good sized pool. The friendly yet unobtrusive owners Trevor and Christine have come up with a perfect set-up for holiday makers in that they have two Gites but only rent out one at a time in an effort to give their guests maximum privacy. Furthermore, though their home is attached to the Gites it is at an opposing angle so that you do have the feeling that you have the property to yourselves. Entertainment wise, the TV has British freesat and a dvd player, there are board games and the WiFi is excellent. As for around and about, the local area is ideally situated for exploring the beautiful Dordogne whilst remaining rural and totally tranquil. Well, they say the proof is in the pudding and we loved this property and it's owners so much that we've booked up for a fortnight next year, something we've never done before. So,do yourselves a favour and stop looking elsewhere!
Stayed for one week in The Stable, which was extremely comfortable, with excellent facilities. A beautiful, quiet, rural setting, with excellent on site hosts. Look forward to returning.
Thank you for your review, we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay, we also look forward to seeing you again here sometime.
A beautiful, clean and comfortable gite in wonderful surroundings. Absolutely perfect
We had a truly lovely relaxing time in this beautiful property. Trevor & Chris are lovely hosts who should be extremely proud of themselves for creating a beautiful property in a beautiful part of France. We would highly recommend it to anybody
