About Guy Viccars
We are a couple that originated from Cornwall, where we both grew up in the holiday industry. After careers in the marine industry, super-yachts and economic regeneration we have found our little piece of paradise here in Lagrasse. After a 5 year and 600 ton renovation, the secrets of the property have been revealed, providing some of the most amazing architecture, sculptures and paintings from the Cathar period. Supplying plenty of things to see and talk about over a cold glass.
Guy Viccars purchased this Apartment in 2008
Why Guy Viccars chose Lagrasse
The house is nearly a thousand years old. It has unique past and ongoing story that seems to build with every room you walk into. Guy Viccars purchased this property in 2004.
What makes this Apartment unique
To much to tell so we will wet your whistle. Sculptures of the chief knight for the Abbey of Lagrasse (the true location of the Cathar trial). Paintings of the battles dating back to the 13th century. The first 26 paintings have been restored with some on display at the village 'Maison de Patrimone.' 15 arches with the last 13th century arch finally out in situ in the early part of 2014 completing a loving renovation of an immensely historic house. Sculptures dotted throughout the property. Why not come and see for yourself and join us for one of our legendary BBQs.

To start with, Claire and Guy are amazing people; talented, giving and unmatched as hosts. We immediately felt like family.
The property is wonderful. It is located in a charming little village; out of the way enough to be quiet, but close to great day-trip destinations.
Everything was clean and in good working order. Our hosts had thought of everything, there was no last minute running out to buy a necessity.
We wandered the quaint little streets, hiked to ruined castles, drank wonderful Corbieres wine, and ate great food in the local restaurants. This stay really capped off our tour of Spain and France. Can't wait to become a repeat customer!
Two thumbs up for Holidays in Lagrasse!
Claire and Guy have created a truly special place. Their enthusiasm for creating exceptional experiences shines through in every detail. From Claire's warm welcome to the group potluck to the well-appointed apartments, Holidays in Lagrasse is a place you'll want to come back to.
The delightful village of Lagrasse has enough to keep travelers busy with its Saturday morning market, multiple restaurants, abbey, live music in the evenings and hiking trails, and is also an excellent home base for exploring the Languedoc-Roussillon region. Don't miss beautiful Abbaye de Fontfroide!
The Grenier apartment is cosy and comfortable, with a well-stocked kitchen, modern bathrooms and plenty of space for two couples. It's on the top floor (two flights of stairs) with windows that open onto the courtyard from the living area. The back bedrooms peek onto the tiny street behind the building. We noted how peaceful quiet the village was in the morning and slept with the windows open.
The shared courtyard has a small pool, sun chairs for lounging and a kitchen/grill area. An excellent spot for a evening meal or glass of rosé. Superbe!
We're already talking about our next trip! Merci mille fois, Claire and Guy!
The Grenier apartment was spacious, air-conditioned and well looked after. Guy and Claire were very helpful and extremely knowledgeable of the surrounding areas, wines and local foods. They provided a raft of information for people staying at the apartments and were gracious hosts, right down to putting up with our chatty 9yr old as she followed them around as they did chores. There is a BBQ to facilitate the communal nature of the apartments but attendance isn’t mandatory though go if you can! It was a pleasure to stay there and we would highly recommend the venue for a wonderful holiday experience.
Excellent Return Visit
This was our second visit to Lagrasse to stay in the Grenier Apartment. For two weeks its been home from home and as always Guy and Claire looked after us wonderfully. We are already planning our next trip. Can't fault this stay. Five star!
Many thanks for taking the time to write a review. Always appreciated. It was lovely to see you all again and catch up. The two weeks seemed to whizz by. I'll make Narbonne Market next time - a girls day out!
We wish you all the best and hope to see you next year.
Bye for now.

Excellent In All Ways!
We cannot fault the accommodation and hospitality offered by Guy and Claire. The apartments are beautifully and lovingly restored by Guy. They are well equipped and tastefully decorated making a comfortable and relaxing environment. The courtyard garden is wonderful with plenty of areas to sit and sunbathe. We were treated to a couple of barbeques hosted by Guy & Claire which gave us the opportunity to meet the other guests and as the evening progressed - put the world to rights! Memorable in every sense!! Lagrasse is a beautiful village in an excellent location to explore the surrounding area. We will return! Thank you Guy & Claire for making our holiday so enjoyable. Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review and I am a little late responding! Where did the summer go. Really glad that you all enjoyed your holiday. Memorable BBQ evening! Thank you for the lovely comments abut the gites. Yep, Guy has created something very special both within the gites and in the garden. Every time I step into the garden it reminds me of a little piece of paradise. So glad that you all enjoyed it. We wish you all well and hope to welcome you again in the future.

The grandeur and candor of Lagrasse
Guy and Claire are wonderful hosts and their spacious apartments,
remodeled with their own hearts and hands, offer a gateway to this
historic village and surrounds. One emerges and returns to this lovely
home every day after trips through the small village that include
small retail shops (and one wonderful patisserie). But Guy and Claire's assistance in helping give notable locations and places of interest
was very helpful and providential. We are enthralled with the Corbieres countryside that is rich in history and beauty. The personal
outreach by our hosts just added to the felt ambience and comfortability. I would go back in a minute...and stay longer!
Thanks you so much for writing a lovely review. It is very much appreciated. We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay in the Grenier Apartment. We always say that Lagrasse is a great location from which to explore from and it is lovely to know that you took the opportunity to do and visit as much as you could in your brief stay. The surrounding area is stunning and never ceases to amaze us through the seasons. A great location to run a gite business! We wish you all the very best and hope to welcome you back in the future.
With our best wishes

With consistent temperatures in the mid to late 20's from May to September this part of Southern France has something to offer everyone, with its colourful landscape which changes dramatically through the seasons.
Lagrasse is situated just 30 minutes drive from Carcassonne and 40 minutes from Narbonne. Both these wonderful cities are steeped in history with many beautiful and interesting places to explore. Lagrasse has something for everyone - bars, restaurants, local artisan shops, local supermarkets and a boulangerie to name but a few. In the summer 'brocantes' are held where you will pick up all sorts of wonderful and quirky artifacts. There is a market every Saturday in the village square where fresh regional produce can be sampled and purchased. Throughout the year you will find many events are held including live bands and classical concerts such as En Blanc et Noir. During July a internationally renowned music festival is held that engulfs the entire village. There are of course fireworks and live music to celebrate Bastille Day on July the 14th and in August there is an international ‘Banquet du Livres’ situated within the old stone walls of the medieval banqueting hall. All these lively and fun things will ensure a typically French atmosphere is found and most definitely enjoyed!
A two minute stroll up the main street will bring you to the tennis courts & the football & boules pitches. Sailing & windsurfing can be found 30 minutes drive away, so there is also something to occupy the more sporty! Skiing is approximately 2 hours away. For those wanting a truly relaxing French village experience there is the pretty beach on the river Orbieu which is only a stone's throw away through the cobbled streets. Superb fishing is also found on this river & with the Canal de Midi close by, tranquil boat trips are a must. Wonderful walks can be found in and around the village which can be tailored to suit individual needs. So whether you are wanting an invigorating hike high up in the hills or a gentle stroll along the river bank this region walking will suit all. Cycling is a fun way to explore the cobbled streets of the village and the surrounding areas we have bikes available to use. The Tour de France passes nearby each year and the tree lined roads are filled with spectators who travel from around the globe to cheer the cyclists on their way! Within easy driving distance you will also find a myriad of Cathar castles and ruins to explore.
The beautiful beaches of Leucate, Gruissan and La Franqui are located approximately 35 minutes drive away and offer all you would expect from French seaside towns. Port Leucate and its weather conditions are perfect for wind surfing, bringing keen surfers from all over Europe to hop on their boards here! There are 2 fun Aqua parks located within an hour of the house and a pirate theme park in Gruissan. In Carcassonne and Leucate there are the O2 Aventura Parcs where older children and adults can test their climbing skills - and their head for heights - in the tree top adventure park. In Sigean there is an African Safari Park which plays host - to amongst other things - elephants, lions and rhinos.
