Characterful and peaceful 'home from home'
We have just had the most wonderful holiday in The Old Carriage House last week and didnt want to leave! Our previous Florida vacations have always been in hotels or vacation villas around Orlando and this was SUCH a refreshing change. I dont believe the photos do it justice! Full of nooks and crannies and charming decor throughout. Being a keen gardener i also enjoyed our 'private' garden with ample seating and a recliner and took some great photos of an Osprey munching on a fish in the huge old oak tree! Couldnt quite act fast enough to capture the squabbling Jays on film though. Everything we needed was there with the exception of a kettle and Dawn soon put that right (we Brits DO like our tea!!) In fact the owners were quietly attentive without being obtrusive. The two bikes were put to regular use and we would recommend their use to see a bit more of the locality with easy cycle paths in both directions through pleasant parks including one that takes you within a couple of miles of Clearwater! A VERY short walk away is Main St with a host of restaurants and cafes, galleries and antique shops. We enjoyed meals at the Paradise Cafe and The Sandwich bar and not forgetting the owner's own Whistle Stop Grill (where i sampled fried green tomatoes for the first time) A little further afield but easily driveable is the lovely Dunedin, Tarpon Springs and of course, Clearwater Beach and St Petes! We loved the House and believe that anyone who lives in the town is very lucky indeed but If you want pristine and new then this isnt for you HOWEVER if you want some home from home comfort, character and history then book the "oldest wooden building in Safety Harbor"!
