Unique Garden Yurt Surrounded by Waterfalls

Property Details

Updated: Oct 25, 2016
2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, sleeps 6

Climbing Vine Cottage is a custom-designed yurt nestled in an organic vegetable and perennial flower garden near our home. The yurt features a fully equipped, eat-in kitchen (includes chocolate and award winning, locally roasted coffee) with seating for 6. The bathroom is stocked with towels, local soap, shampoo, etc. Sleeping accommodations include a lovely master bedroom (full size bed) with flat screen tv for dvds, fold out futon bed in the living room (full size) and two twin beds in the loft. In the winter months the yurt stays cozy with a thermostat-controlled wood pellet stove (pellets are provided). The stone patio offers outdoor dining, a gas grill and fire pit. The wildflower field, only steps away, connects to a nature preserve and Van Buskirk Gorge with many waterfalls. Guests are welcome to harvest berries, fruit and vegetables from the orchard and garden. High speed wireless internet is also included.

Beautiful Cottage Seeks Ideal Guest: Comfortable, artfully designed, hand crafted yurt nestled into vibrant garden seeks visitors for memorable stay. If you like nature, hiking and gorge walks, if you are tired of cookie cutter hotel rooms or antique stuffed B & B's, if you want something unique and delightful let's get together for one night or many weeks! Hey, I know I'm just a 'luxury apartment in the round' but who says places can't have personality! Please write my caretaker and come visit me!

Talk About Kid Friendly!: Climbing Vine Cottage began as a playground and school for young gardeners. Small hands helped grow fruits, vegetables and flowers for their families and our local soup kitchen Loaves and Fishes. Children have raised butterflies, caught frogs and identified bugs. The yurt was our classroom. In the garden you'll find the cedar tool shed neatly organized with high quality child-sized tools and children's gardening books. In the yurt children will be delighted to sit at the child's table for 4 and use the beading, drawing, collage and clay materials we always keep in stock. There's a play kitchen, tea set and apron, plus baskets with legos and a train set and a well-stocked children's book shelf. Additionally you'll find kid-friendly-adaptive-devices like a step stool, potty seat, and low bench.

For adults without kids don't worry, when we know you're coming we place these materials out of the way, on shelves, etc.

Perfect for a Romantic Getaway: Climbing Vine Cottage makes it easy to find the time for each other. Cook together in a beautiful kitchen or get take out. Cozy up by the fire or climb in bed and watch a DVD. Better yet, climb up to the loft to watch the stars. Explore the forest and gorge in privacy surrounded by peace and beauty.

About the Owner

I grew up on this land hiking the gorge, playing in waterfalls and riding horses in the pasture. After traveling throughout Europe, the Middle East and India and living in San Francisco I came back home to build a house here so my children could also experience the beauty of living close to nature. Family members helped to build the yurt which originally served as the school house for my children's gardening program. My dad and I are avid gardeners and orchardists. It's our pleasure to offer warm hospitality to travelers seeking a unique yurt experience!

We'll be back!

We're so glad we choose to stay at Climbing Vine Cottage! The warmth of the fire, the sound of the rain on the roof and the gentle quietness of the land added to our rest and relaxation. We will definitely be back in winter! And spring! And summer!

We booked Michelle's "luxury" yurt for our son's College Parent's Weekend and it was a huge hit with everyone - our daughter and her 6 yr old joined us for the trip, and our son opted to stay with us all weekend rather than stay on campus because he loved the place so much. "Better than any hotel room anyday" was his exact quote. Off the beaten path and quirky is the usual for us, but this was the best find yet! Even though our timing wasn't perfect (it was a very rainy weekend and the change in weather may have affected the hens, we were only able to get one egg out of the girls all weekend) the garden, the chicken coop, the hike to the waterfalls, the star gazing (once the sky finally cleared on Saturday night) and the cozy feel of the yurt made for a unique family weekend that we won't soon forget.

Michelle was a perfect host and we only regret not getting to know her family better and learn more about this special place that she has created. We can't wait to go back! (I almost hesitate to write this review because we hope to find the yurt available when we need it, and it looks like this place already seems to book up quickly. So unless you really like being away from it all and back to nature - leave this one for those that do :)

Absolutely Charming!

  • 5 of 5

We just spend 4 lovely days and nights and feel completely renewed. The yurt is cheery and beautifully decorated. The gardens are gorgeous. Michelle is gracious and kind. We enjoyed walks in the wildflower meadow, and the bed and bedding are so comfortable. The pellet stove kept us toasty warm at night. Hopefully we will have an opportunity to return.

Just lovely

I was concerned this place might be too far out of town but it wasn't. It was far enough that we could see the Milky Way at night and hear roosters in the morning, but was only a short drive from the city. This yurt is to most yurts what glamping is to camping. Michelle has thought of everything people might need to enjoy their stay, and has beautifully but simply decorated the place. Great hike right on the property, and very near several wonderful state parks. My one recommendation, if light wakes you up in the morning and you are sleeping either in the loft or on the pullout futon, is to bring a sleep mask. The amazing skylight at the top of the yurt let in sunlight in the morning and our teens who slept out there wished they had worn sleep masks. The bedroom stays dark. We will be back!

well kept, well appointed yurt in beautiful surroundings.

  • 5 of 5

We arrived after dark, the yurt was already unlocked and ready for us. It was a very hot day, the A/C was already on, and a HUGE blessing to have. The beds were comfortable, lighting was great, plenty of outlets, AND WIFI!!!! In a yurt, I thought this was amazing. My 6 and 3 year olds loved it as did my wife, and father in law, and there was plenty of room, in fact we could have slept 2 more if we needed to. There was propane in the grill, and Michelle makes sure everything she keeps in the yurt is organic, local, and non-GMO which is a big deal for us.

I never write reviews on these kind of places, but this was special, really great. Next time would like to stay longer. Thank you SO much for everything!!!
