Unique Garden Yurt Surrounded by Waterfalls

Overview

Property Details

Updated: Aug 23, 2016
2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, sleeps 6

Climbing Vine Cottage is a custom-designed yurt nestled in an organic vegetable and perennial flower garden near our home. The yurt features a fully equipped, eat-in kitchen (includes chocolate and award winning, locally roasted coffee) with seating for 6. The bathroom is stocked with towels, local soap, shampoo, etc. Sleeping accommodations include a lovely master bedroom (full size bed) with flat screen tv for dvds, fold out futon bed in the living room (full size) and two twin beds in the loft. In the winter months the yurt stays cozy with a thermostat-controlled wood pellet stove (pellets are provided). The stone patio offers outdoor dining, a gas grill and fire pit. The wildflower field, only steps away, connects to a nature preserve and Van Buskirk Gorge with many waterfalls. Guests are welcome to harvest berries, fruit and vegetables from the orchard and garden. High speed wireless internet is also included.

Beautiful Cottage Seeks Ideal Guest: Comfortable, artfully designed, hand crafted yurt nestled into vibrant garden seeks visitors for memorable stay. If you like nature, hiking and gorge walks, if you are tired of cookie cutter hotel rooms or antique stuffed B & B's, if you want something unique and delightful let's get together for one night or many weeks! Hey, I know I'm just a 'luxury apartment in the round' but who says places can't have personality! Please write my caretaker and come visit me!

Talk About Kid Friendly!: Climbing Vine Cottage began as a playground and school for young gardeners. Small hands helped grow fruits, vegetables and flowers for their families and our local soup kitchen Loaves and Fishes. Children have raised butterflies, caught frogs and identified bugs. The yurt was our classroom. In the garden you'll find the cedar tool shed neatly organized with high quality child-sized tools and children's gardening books. In the yurt children will be delighted to sit at the child's table for 4 and use the beading, drawing, collage and clay materials we always keep in stock. There's a play kitchen, tea set and apron, plus baskets with legos and a train set and a well-stocked children's book shelf. Additionally you'll find kid-friendly-adaptive-devices like a step stool, potty seat, and low bench.

For adults without kids don't worry, when we know you're coming we place these materials out of the way, on shelves, etc.

Perfect for a Romantic Getaway: Climbing Vine Cottage makes it easy to find the time for each other. Cook together in a beautiful kitchen or get take out. Cozy up by the fire or climb in bed and watch a DVD. Better yet, climb up to the loft to watch the stars. Explore the forest and gorge in privacy surrounded by peace and beauty.

About the Owner

I grew up on this land hiking the gorge, playing in waterfalls and riding horses in the pasture. After traveling throughout Europe, the Middle East and India and living in San Francisco I came back home to build a house here so my children could also experience the beauty of living close to nature. Family members helped to build the yurt which originally served as the school house for my children's gardening program. My dad and I are avid gardeners and orchardists. It's our pleasure to offer warm hospitality to travelers seeking a unique yurt experience!

We'll be back!

We're so glad we choose to stay at Climbing Vine Cottage! The warmth of the fire, the sound of the rain on the roof and the gentle quietness of the land added to our rest and relaxation. We will definitely be back in winter! And spring! And summer!

An environmentally sensitive yurt

  • 5 of 5

We are lucky enough to stay in the yurt of Climbing Vine Cottage, which is superbly maintained by Michelle, while visiting Ithaca and Cornell University.

In addition to the very nice interior and convenience prepared by the dedicated host, the yurt and the surrounding is maintained in an environmentally sensitive way.

One can find very large solar panel that is at least 7.5KW, sufficient to maintain a family living off grid. Soap is hand made and one can pick vegetable and eggs from the chicken nest and the garden next to the yurt. The walk in the forest adjacent to the garden is refreshing, where one can easily spot rabbit, birds, ...etc.

I guess we should bike to this place in our next visit.

Thank you very much, Michelle !

We had a great time

  • 5 of 5

We stayed several nights at the yurt. Michelle has two kids the same ages as mine and they all got along great ... lots of running around in the evenings. They loved feeding the fish and getting eggs as well.

The kitchen had enough equipment for me to make meals - omelettes, pancakes, spaghetti, sausages and onions, etc. That was really nice. We got lettuce and snap peas from the garden.

The yurt is reasonably close to Ithaca proper; the commute back and forth from town and neighboring areas was fine.

Would stay again.

Amazing and Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

Such a beautiful property and the yurt is really decked out! It was wonderful to grab out eggs from the hen in the morning and lettuce from the garden for dinner. The area is a short drive to Ithaca proper, so it's easy to go explore. Michelle was a wonderful host. Thanks!

A Memorable Experience!

  • 5 of 5

Cousins from Virginia, Maryland and New York came together to stay in this yurt. It was truly a wonderful experience! It was a pleasure meeting Michelle & her dad and enjoyed everything from the fresh eggs & chickens, to the walk down in back to see and hear the gorge. Beautiful! There were so many places to visit from the many amazing falls... Buttermilk Falls for one, Cornell University, Ithaca Commons, & Wineries but much, much more available. The yurt was very cozy and extremely relaxing. You will see and feel how much thought and care went into this yurt! It was a wonderful experience and would highly recommend! Thank you Michelle, your dad and family for such a special getaway!
