'Wine Country Lodge's history in Sonoma County started with its founder, Lisa Neisingh. Lisa was raised in Sonoma County, where she enjoyed vacations with her family at their riverfront cabin on Healdsburg’s Fitch Mountain and where she learned to swim with her cousins in the Russian River. Wanting to continue to share similar getaway experiences for additional families and friends, she bought Old River in 2006 as Wine Country Lodges’ third riverfront vacation home. Sharing Healdsburg’s historic riverfront with others has been our goal in creating a relaxing environment conducive to memory making get-togethers. Old River Lodge has been hosting visitors on the river ever since. Old River Lodge is known for its wonderful views, excellent river location and authentic, 'old', river lodge charm. Wine Country Lodges continues in the tradition of welcoming guests and is now owned and managed by Lisa’s children Jared B Pickrell and Jill E. Jensen. Our families enjoy filling these wonderful riverfront homes with comfortable furnishings, relaxing amenities, and providing a choice of many adventurous and leisurely activities for our guests to choose from.
We Look Forward to Welcoming You to Healdsburg’s Riverfront Wine Country.
'Lisa was searching for a rustic riverfront getaway - the kind she remembered as a child - a place to go with family and friends and leave the cares of the world behind! She wanted it not too fussy so it would have that 'relaxing' feeling and wanted it to be waterfront, with plenty of beautiful views and fun water activities. When Old River became available, Lisa knew it was the perfect property and addition to Wine Country Lodges collection of riverfront vacation homes.

Great River Location, Close to Downtown Healdsburg, World Class Wineries and Breathtaking Vineyards, Mountains and Valleys Growing Some of the Greatest Wine Grap
The house was exactly what we'd hoped for, providing a desparately needed, comfortable break from our stressed-out lives.
The management was seamless -- all the info we needed, when we needed it; plenty of amenities; and everything well-maintained.
We will definitely look forward to coming back!

My family and I booked several months in advance to secure this rental. Location was essential for us as we were travelling over six thousand miles for a family wedding. We were also really looking forward to the quiet river location and hot tub.
Despite an email a week before our rental start date confirming the stay and the access codes, there was a last minute problem with over running building work and we we were not able to stay. They attempted to contact me twice to explain and to offer alternative options but I was travelling with no access to emails. Therefore we did not find out until we pulled up outside the property.
We were offered alternative accommodation, a rafting trip and a free 3 night stay at the property in 2017. In the end we stayed in another property outside Healdsburg and had access to a smaller property by the river. However, the outcome was far from satisfactory for a number of reasons:
- We chose the river location specifically because it was in close to other guests and family. The alternative accommodation was a drive away and significantly curtailed the plans we had made with our family and friends located in Healdsburg.
- We had organised our car rental based on our proximity to other family members so we could car pool and organise evenings out in Healdsburg. Staying further out at short notice meant that we did not have sufficient cars to do what we had planned, inconveniencing not only our party but others.
- The alternative rental property did not offer the location or facilities we paid for and was blighted with loud traffic noise from the 101 day and night. I live in London and it is quieter inside and outside my house than it was where we stayed.
- We were offered a three night stay in 2017. All of our party live and work in the UK and we have no plans to return to the USA, let alone California, in the near future. The cost of flights from London/Manchester to take up the offer does not make it viable.
To date I have not received any information regarding the security deposit. I note from other reviews that this can sometimes take several weeks. However after several months and emails I would expect to have had some feedback. I have had no replies.
I urge anyone thinking about this property to check what building or repair work is going on before they commit to a rental.
After our arrival, it was apparent the furnace wouldn't work. After 6 voicemails, and no returned phone calls in 24 hrs, i was finally able to reach someone in the office. Someone arrived within a few minutes and brought down space heaters, and later had a service call on the furnace. The furnace still didn't work, even after the service call. It seemed dangerous that no one was available in the case of a true emergency!
Also the interior of the house is extraordinarily outdated. There is scaffolding around the house, which we weren't notified of ahead of time. And the houses are literally on top of each other (less than a foot seperates roof and deck). And because of the construction materials outside, parking was a disaster. It's on a blind curve and barely able to have one small vehicle parked without getting run over. And the bedroom facing the road is poorly insulated and is very noisy.
This house is poorly represented on the vrbo website!
We were very disappointed and more than a little surprised to drive up to a construction zone. We were not informed in advance (nor given any monetary consideration) that the property was undergoing a renovation. The owner and manager were quite apologetic after the fact but that did not make up for the scaffolding and piles of debris.
We often typically rent up river at Summer Home Park or Monte Rio. The Healdsburg area is a bit more pricey and the home itself was more comfortable and clean than many cabins on the river. We went into the Raven Theatre for a great production of Bye Bye Birdie, and enjoyed the town square for a birthday celebration dinner at Bear Flag. I found the rental process somewhat tedious due to the electronic signature process that never seemed to work. The staff were prompt and efficient when answering questions and assisting.
The biggest disappointment by far, was receiving a call 15 minutes before check in saying the construction crew did not finish the siding project. Pulling up to a house wrapped in white and scaffolding while the workers were loading the truck was a disappointment. The job was more that a few days from completion, demonstrating a lack of respect to the agreement.
There were some very nice touches to the house inside and it was well stocked as far as the kitchen. The beds were very comfortable and once it is refurbished on the outside including the steps down to the cement landing and the ladder to the water, it will be a wonderful place to stay. There seemed to be an issue with the septic drainage that the neighbors were concerned with enough to ask us how many were staying the house and that they were calling the Property Management and not to worry.
The top floor back bedroom had a slider with the balcony removed. pretty scary when you have a near two year old in tow, but we were diligent in keeping that door closed. One thing that is not apparent in the schematic on line is that the upstairs bedrooms are sufficiently separated to provide privacy. That is not always the case in older cabins and it was a nice surprise.
We really enjoyed our stay. Sitting on the decks watching the wildlife on the river was a highlight. We saw a great blue heron perched on a nearby rock looking for their dinner, multiple deer (2 crossed the river), lots of various duck families, and fish jumping. House is located on the sunny side of Fitch mountain.
You are only about 2 feet from each neighbor which isn't so bad since there are 2 nice decks in the back of the house.
I was a bit surprised when 2 nights ended up costing over $1,700 after taxes and fees... (For just a standard weekend) so be sure you plan for that when booking any rental! It was advertised as around $600 a night.
