The Outrigger Cottage is a Hatteras Island favorite. This cottage has ocean and sound views from its decks. The cottage's private housekeeper assures you that this vacation home is ready for your visit. The house is bright, cheery, and comfortable. The ground level has a large concrete pad, a fish cleaning station (with light), and one of the best outdoor showers around. The interior rooms are painted 'beach house white' and trimmed with traditional warm wood. The main level has an open, airy cathedral ceiling. The living area's comfortable leather furniture is terrific for relaxing, with the entertainment center featuring a smart TV with streaming capabilities and cable. The updated, well-equipped kitchen makes meal preparation a pleasure. The kitchen has a breakfast bar, and there is a traditional dining area. The covered screened porch is a great place to sit back to read a book, catch a quick nap in one of the comfortable Adirondack chairs, or relax in the hot tub. At the day's end, retreat to one of the cozy bedrooms with smart TVs for additional leisure. Visit nearby attractions like Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and Cape Hatteras National Seashore for additional sights within 10 miles of your home base, or enjoy the waves and sand at Salvo Day Use Area 12.3 miles away. Happy with our stay
We stayed here for a long weekend with our young kids. It was a nice size and open layout downstairs. The bathrooms could use come updating and the whole house could use a deep cleaning. The edges of all the rooms were sandy and dusty, vents and ac needed to be cleaned. We loved that it was steps to the beach especially with babies!

Great place
Great place to stay, the beach access is quite rough compared to other places I stayed but the house was so amazingly comfy it was worth it. The only other thing is the porch up top, the railings are not secure and one was completely out. I have a toddler. He could have easily fallen through that. That needs to be fixed. Everything else was great though.

Outrigger
Please tell the Outrigger owners that the kitchen remodel is excellent. Day 1: After unloading my vehicle I tried the television. It did not work. I called Hatteras Realty. I got no response. I called the Vacasa number listed on the welcome papers. I was connected to Christine of Vacasa maintenance who said she would send a technician. The technician was actually a home builder named Mark and knew nothing about the television in Outrigger. I called Christine again. Someone came to Outrigger while I was attending a meeting at the Cape Hatteras Anglers Club clubhouse. Whoever that was left a new remote which was the same model that I used in Outrigger in 2021 and also left the television on the same screen that I was able to get originally which was useless. The remote left in Outrigger did not work the television. Time was 4:54 PM. At 5:36 Christine sent a text that said, “Just read my tech’s notes. He says it was on the wrong input and should work fine on the remote now,”. It did not work “fine” or at all. Day 2 (Wednesday, 2nd) through Day 4 (Friday, 4th) were the same. No person came to fix the television. Day 5 (Saturday, 5th): A local maintenance person came to Outrigger in late afternoon and informed me after fiddling around with the remotes and the television, that a cable company technician would be needed to fix the television problem. He made several telephone calls and left the premises never to be heard from again. He should have been sent to Outrigger on Day 1. Day 6 (Sunday, 6th): I notified Christine by text that 3 technicians had visited Outrigger since my arrival and at 11:55 AM on Sunday I still did not have a working television. She gave no response. Day 7 (Monday, 7th): The day before I was to vacate Outrigger, a cable company employee from Nags Head came during the morning and found that the cable outside Outrigger was disengaged from the poles. He said he would replace the cable and it would take at least a couple of hours. I left to visit my friend in Buxton and told the cable guy that I would return quickly as the cable guy was not allowed by company policy to enter the cottage without a tenant being inside. Upon my return the cable guy informed that he had replaced the cable. He came inside and picked up a different remote than I had ever used in Outrigger and the television worked. I was able to watch television for the first time since my arrival 6 days earlier. Christine had a dismissive attitude for my interest in football, said she helped as much as possible even on her days off (no backup support?), used her personal telephone (not my problem), followed Vacasa maintenance protocol (needs improvement), and that her office hours are 9:00 to 5:00 (really?). To that I say a rental agent’s job is to see that a renter, especially of an expensive cottage, is happy with the cottage and all the amenities regardless of the
