About this property

Carter house : 100 year old house with a remodeled castle inspired feel.

The Carter house has a lot of charm and character. Gas lanterns adorn either side of the beautiful front door, upon entering you are greeted with elegance beginning with a crystal chandler that drops through the ceiling from the cozy library upstairs. The main floor has a TV area with a big sectional, dining table, gas fireplace, full size kitchen, bathroom, laundry and kids bunk room. There are 3 bedrooms each room having its own private entrance. To get upstairs you ascend the beautiful spiral staircase entering a bedroom with its own private bathroom & coffee bar which leads to the private deck with a gas fireplace. This room has lots of great character, a beautiful rain shower built of brick and stone, and two double doors that lead to the library. The curved library makes for a very cozy and relaxing reading area with lots of books. A great place to enjoy your coffee and listen to old records. If you descend the spiral staircase you enter the other bedroom. Through the kitchen you can enter the shared courtyard where there is a water fountain and lilacs that bloom in the spring.

Great Family Getaway
What a beautiful home! Truly felt like staying in a castle. So glad we stayed at this property for my son’s wedding. The house was very charming and comfortable, with plenty of room for a family or group. Wish we could’ve enjoyed the fire pit on the rooftop patio, but December in Gillette is a little chilly for that. Maybe next time! :)

We are Gillette natives; we own Frontier Auto Museum and love preserving history. We have started our vacation rentals based on that love for preserving the past. These properties all have a special story and place in the community, and we wanted to keep it alive. The houses are decorated period correct and all have fun and unique features. We hope you can enjoy these unique homes and also make your way to the museum for a full experience!

Why they chose this property

We are located in the original downtown Gillette filled with lots of character and only a couple blocks away from our historic downtown. You will find locally owned shops, restaurants and attractions all within walking distance.

What makes this property unique

This home was moved into its current location in 1910. It was the home of the local doctor and his family. It has changed many hands over the years and in the early 2000's Nick Carter started remodeling the house to preserve its rich history. He made it what it is today. There is a photobook in the Livingroom that captures his hard work and process of construction. Nick passed away in 2020. Our goal was to preserve what Nick had done and worked with his family to allow the home to be enjoyed by many.
