This home was custom built by the owner and it is evident at every turn. Though the house has a small footprint, it lives large and was featured by the Environmental Center of Bend for it's innovation, efficiency and quality construction. Hydronic heated floors throughout result in quiet, even comfort and a noticeably calm environment. Blackout shades let you set your own schedule in the sunny high desert. Exposed beams, solid doors, high ceiling, expert tilework -- this isn't your typical rental. The home has treetop views and even a glimpse of the river from the rear bedroom. But as they say, location, location, location! Being so near the river, yet also nearby access to the highway and downtown means you'll spend less time in the car and more time soaking up the Central Oregon outdoors.

You'll have access to the entire home. Note that this is our family's home and there are personal belongings in the house. We will make sure to clear space for your belongings. Food and drink left in the house are meant to be shared, though we would appreciate re-stocking of heavily depleted items. You'll have space for two vehicles in the driveway.

We'll be within cell phone range generally, and are quick to respond to any call or text. We have a neighbor across the street who is experienced in helping our Airbnb guests.

The house is located in a friendly and welcoming Westside historic neighborhood, with convenient access to Highway 97. Stroll into town for dinner along the Deschutes River or cross the footbridge to explore miles of gorgeous riverside trails. Just 3 houses away from First Street Rapids park and 10 minutes walk to downtown.

Public transportation is very limited in Central Oregon. Parking is off-street, in the driveway.

Note that there is a lovely cat who lives inside. He has a cat-door, and we also have a 'vacation feeder' to provide him with dry food and water. If you don't mind, he loves to have a half can of canned food per day - but that's only if you have time.

Please note that the laundry room (downstairs, very separate from the living space) may be used by our housekeeper during your stay. She is a professional, quiet, full vaccinated and will wear a mask. The laundry will only be used for a single load, between 11AM-2PM.

Also note that there is another Airbnb in another house on the lot. There is no shared wall or any shared spaces, but just so you know the situation better.
We expect guests to be respectful of the neighboring studio, which is a short-term rental. The main concern is noise out on the second floor patio, which is near the bedroom window of the neighboring studio.

There are two thermostats. For heating, we highly recommend using the smaller (non-remote control) thermostat, which controls the radiant floor heat. Note that this heat takes 30-45 minutes for changes to be felt, but it is quiet and very even, without air being blown around. If you would prefer to use the minisplit (it warms more quickly), feel free to set it to the "sunshine" (heat mode). Also, downstairs (garage/office area) is also heated via radiant floor heat. The thermostat is to the left of the water heater/plumbing system. Please do not set this thermostat above 72 degrees, as it gets very warm!
