Beautiful, relaxing home in the "real" Costa Rica

  • 5 of 5

Casa Amarilla is a beautiful oasis and a great place from which to start your adventure. Only about 1.5 hours from the airport (follow Patricia's directions and you shouldn't have any problems), the casa is right on the beach with a beautiful yard. In the morning, drink you coffee on the patio and watch the scarlet macaws having breakfast in the almond trees surrounding the pool. If your an early riser, around 6am you can walk out and watch the neighborhood fisherman bring in his catch and clean it while surrounded by 30 or so pelicans. It is a beautiful walk in either direction, with the village of Tarcoles to the right and a fun beach front restaurant to the left.

The house is very comfortable and well stocked for you stay. Jarra is very friendly and fun to talk to, even if you don't speak Spanish! If you like dogs, then this is the house for you. The neighborhood dogs are all very friendly and well behaved and love nothing better than to join you on a walk on the beach.

The neighbors are a little loud and like to stay up late but they are friendly and having a good time. We felt like their music just added to the ambiance! We would definitely stay here again and for a longer time.

WONDERFUL PLACE!

  • 5 of 5

Casa Amarilla is an absolute gem, we couldn't have been more thrilled with our choice. Everything was exactly as described, and we swam in the ocean right outside the house - the water was so warm! Patri, Jarra and Elbi were so helpful, answered all of our questions immediately and Jarra cut coconuts for us and taught us how to BBQ fish in a banana leaf, delicious! The property was clean, had everything we needed and was very quaint. The location was ideal, quiet but only half an hour to Jaco, close to the fishing village for anything we needed. We were going to do the crocodile tour but ended up saving the money and seeing lots just standing on the bridge instead! Every time we went anywhere, we were so glad to be coming back to our little paradise at the end of the day. I would DEFINITELY recommend this spot, and we will be back! Thank you Patri!

We really liked this place!

  • 5 of 5

Our first impression of this place was to arrive around 4:00 p.m. on a hot 90 degree afternoon. After bringing all our stuff in and sweating profusely, we saw the pool, decided to try it right then and there, and found ourselves in heaven. We got to love this place so much that we preferred to stay here rather than see the local sights. But we did take in the Carera Wildlife Refuge just down the road, and the crocodiles under the Rio Tarcoles Bridge. We are not fancy people and the house was comfortable for us. The life in this quiet fishing village was great to see, and we had a lot of opportunity to watch the scarlet macaws overhead eating the almonds in the trees. We preferred to do our shopping in the small villages to the north and south of us. Yes, the road nearby can be loud but that did not bother us. The neighbors on the weekend did play their Costa Rican music a bit loud, but that is part of the ambiance. The perfect day for us was to run our errands in the morning, then come back to the house to spend the afternoon in the pool, gazing out at the scenery across the bay. At night, the bay was lined with the lights from the fishing boats. Our tranquil week here was very different from what we had at home and that was what we were looking for.

wonderful time in Tarcoles

  • 5 of 5

The property we stayed at was wonderful. The view was stunning. Ocean view, almond trees and macaws flying overhead created a iconic picture of paradise. While the beach had some rocks and a bit of trash brought in by the high tide, the warm ocean, proximity to the house and the exclusivity of the beach more then made up for that. This place was not very touristy and the locals in nearby village were extremely friendly.

The proprietor was very nice and helpful. She helped us arrange several tours and gave excellent recommendations in terms of where to go and what to see.

My only recommendation is to put longitude and latitude GPS coordinates on the website as this property doesn't really have an address in a city sense of the word, hence it is difficult to find without resorting to landmarks.

Nice stay, right on the beach

  • 5 of 5

This was a wonderful family stay, right on the beach. I would call it a true Costa Rican experience, as we got to experience the true essence of this beautiful country. We rented a large car for a group of 7 and I would recommend to do the same to other groups of travelers. The water in December was really warm and we could stay there for hours. Due to proximity to the water, we were able to enjoy the beach without daily packing. Patri was very attentive to all our needs and organized a couple of tours for us. The house is pretty roomy and our group of 7 was pretty comfortable. WE used maid service which was nice and included laundry (maid service is additional cost). We spent a lot of time observing the birds. Parrots (scarlet macaws) and pelicans were flying around and you could observe them on our secluded beach without buying any tours. We also went on a crocodile and force back riding tour, which were nice and reasonably priced. Kitchen is not brand new, however the house is overall in a good shape.

Total Relaxation!

  • 5 of 5

Our week spent at Casa Amarilla was wonderful. From the great caretakers to the fully furnished home. Our party included two couples and this home had plenty of room for all of us! Prior to our arrival we received detailed driving instructions that were most accurate. We did encounter a road closure on the new highway that delayed our initial arrival so be sure to check ahead on your arrival date for any possible road closures.

This was our first visit to Costa Rica and a few things stood out. First and foremost is the friendliness of all the people we met. Everyone we met were more than happy to help this group of gringo's find their way around the area. The next welcome surprise was the sheer beauty of the area, from the frequent visits from the Macaws to the gorgeous sunsets each evening. One of the greatest days we had was with Tico Style Tours where we met Gino and his lovely wife Maria. In one day we visited Gino's private beach, went fishing, snorkeling and enjoyed fresh fruit and lobster on the beach. We ended the day with a beautiful oceanview sunset and a great dinner prepared by Maria and delivered to Casa Amarilla. Last but not least we would like to thank Patri for all the great information and ideas she provided prior to and during our visit that helped make our vacation a most comfortable and relaxing time.

We hope to return to Costa Rica in the near future for a much longer visit
