Wonderful place
We loved our stay here. The view is spectacular. If you're into birding this is also a great spot. The main parts of the home have been upgraded beautifully, but the highlight of this place is sitting in those Adirondack chairs and taking in the view. We had a wedding at the Bear Mountain Inn and we were a 4 minute drive from that. After seeing the photos online I had some concerns I might be climbing some steep mountain road, but that is not the case and the drive in is easy.

Cousins weekend.
The house was better than we expected. As soon as you drive up to the house your breath is just taken away with those views of the mountains and the valley below. The home is spacious and fit all five of us adults with no problem. We will definitely be back.

Awesome place to stay! Highly recommend it!
We loved this place! The two kitchens worked out great, the living space was plentiful, great fire pit area, beautiful views this time of year, and the property manager was excellent about responding to questions prior to the trip. It's the best place we've rented! Thank you!

Long girls weekend
The cabin and property is absolutely gorgeous with breathtaking views! The property owners were immediately responsive to any questions, and totally invested in making your stay enjoyable. This was the best equipped kitchen that I have experienced in a rental property, with multiple appliances, spices, condiments etc. I look forward to returning with my family for either a summer or winter stay.

About the host

Hosted by Brendan McDowell

Host profile image
We are Shannon and Brendan McDowell and we live just outside of Boston, MA. We both grew up in Massachusetts (Shannon in Millbury and Brendan in Melrose) playing soccer and enjoying outdoor activities like hiking, fishing and skiing. We are avid Boston Bruins fans and enjoy traveling to games around the country. We enjoy traveling in general and have really got into the homesharing craze. We try to utilize VRBO whenever we travel, always having great experiences, and thought we should try opening our home to guests.

Shannon went to college at UMaine Orono which cemented her love of the state. When we first met (playing soccer of course) we started taking day trips to the Wells/Ogunquit area which turned to weekend trips as we grew closer. After we got married we considered moving to Southern Maine full time and began casually looking for homes. It took several years without much luck, but things changed when we found 88 View Drive. It was further away from our offices than we were hoping for, but it had everything else we were after and we fell in love as soon as we arrived. The incredible view down the valley and absolute peace and quiet sold us immediately. We got lucky, had our offer accepted and got to work taking care of things that needed taking care of soon after we closed. It took a while, and lot of help from family and friends along the way, to get the home ready for guests. Now that it is, we hope everyone who visits will have that same feeling of peaceful enjoyment that we have had from the first moment we pulled down the driveway and took in the view.

Why they chose this property

Literally everything that Maine has to offer is within striking distance of the property if not at the property. Hunting, fishing, ice fishing, boating, hiking, ATV, snowmobiling, swimming, dining, shopping, downhill skiing, XC skiing, privacy, fresh air, peace and quiet, and much more!

What makes this property unique

Breathtaking views. Even on cloudy days, it feels like you're inside the clouds! Complete privacy, 30 acres of woods surrounds you on our property and we abut Land Conservancy property, yet you're still only 10 minutes from "civilization". If you've ever wanted to have the solitude of no neighbors but don't want to leave behind conveniences, this is the place for you.
