OLD-FASHIONED HUDSON VALLEY GETAWAY

This circa 1912 home has been updated for modern living but still has an old-fashioned ambience that transports you to another era. In the morning, we lingered over coffee on the back porch in view of the neighbor's beautiful Belgian horses; moved to the wicker chaise lounge on the shady front porch to read and nap, and in the evening sipped our cocktails while watching flocks of doves swoop and dive in the pasture across the street.

Located on a scenic country road that was popular with cyclists, we were within easy driving distance of Germantown, Rhinebeck, and Red Hook. Although the upstairs might feel a little tight for 4 adults plus 1 child (max allowed--only one full bath), it was a good set-up for our family of three adults. We enjoyed a good internet connection (allowing for work from home) and Apple TV at night. Kitchen was well-appointed, great grill outside the back door, and comfortable beds. Easy parking and a large shady back yard with towering oaks and maples. Owner Lyn was very welcoming and solicitous of our comfort. Published Aug 7, 2020

Our two week stay flew by too fast. The well maintained house has lots of charms and features that we were only just starting to fully appreciate - from the front porch where we took in the mornings to the enclosed back porch where we watched the sun set over the horse farm on the hill behind us. The house marries modern conveniences and classic charm very well. We will be back. Published Apr 27, 2020

Family Vacation
Our stay was perfect - We were visiting family whom also have a home in Germantown so we were not at this house during the day only for the nights. House was clean and in a great location for us. Thank you Lyn for being a great host and providing us a clean, comfortable place to stay. We would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful & Relaxing Country Home
LYN's home was truly in the country--away from the noise and busy life. The screened in porch on the back of the house has a beautiful view of horses, trees and a lovely garden. Each day we had our meals and hung out on the porch taking in the atmosphere. The bedrooms upstairs and living room were very comfortable. The kitchen was modern and had everything you would need to cook. Our group needed high speed internet to work and play video games and it performed well. We had a great time and would stay in this house again.

Comfortable home in Hudson Valley
We really liked the house and appreciated the air conditioning. The beds were great and the kitchen cookware made our dining in easy. The check In process was super convenient. This was our first time in the Hudson Valley and loved exploring the surrounding towns. We had a great experience and vacation.

About the host

Host profile image
I am a native New Yorker who discovered the Hudson Valley years ago when I was looking for a quiet escape from the pressures of a career in advertising. Our family spent many summers and weekends here enjoying country life. Now that the kids are older it's a pleasure to share our home and all our favorite places with you!

Why they chose this property

This area is so close to the city, yet it's truly another world up here - small town America at it's best. First we fell in love with the tiny town of Tivoli, then realized what a gem it was to have Bard in our backyard. Our playground are the towns of Rhinebeck and Red Hook and we also spend a lot of time hiking and skiing the Catskills. Hudson is now the place to be and our little hamlet of Germantown is no longer a well kept secret, according to the New York Times: "A vibrant upstate New York town, set against a quaint backdrop".

What makes this property unique

We fell in love with this home the moment we saw it - built by hand 100+ years ago with oak trees from the property, this was a wedding gift from a man to his wife. It's a handsome house with a warm and comforting vibe, views of big Belgian horses, majestic old trees and a classic country porch where we watch the 'world go by'.
