About this property

Whispering Pines Hideaway overlooking peaceful Lake Gurno!

The Whispering Pine's Hideaway is the perfect place to be for any getaway.
Welcome to Hayward, one of Wisconsin’s best vacation spots. This area has it all! . Fishing, golfing, ATV trail-riding, dining, shopping. In winter: snowmobiling, ice fishing, fat-tire biking, and of course, miles of cross country ski trails. Enjoy the sunrise and your morning coffee from the lakeside patio, or end your day with a campfire and smores overlooking the small peaceful Gurno lake, while listening to the call of the loons.

This is a very comfortable and complete lake home. A fully stocked kitchen provides the tools you’ll need for preparing just about anything. The open living/dining area has great views of the lake, as does the master bedroom. The Master bedroom has a queen bed. The second bedroom provide enough sleeping space for guests up to 2 adults and 2 children one bunk bed with a double on bottom and a single bed on top . And an twin bed The spacious bathroom includes a stand up shower and a large, jetted soaking tub. We provide high-speed WIFI internet, and a smart TV with access to network channels. Netflix is provided for your enjoyment. A large wall AC unit in the master bedroom cools the entire cabin in the summer and a gas fireplace makes for a little extra warmth in winter. You'll also have access to on-site laundry room and enough garage space for one car, or a couple snowmobiles.
The Space:
Our home enjoys beautiful lake views and 100 feet of private frontage on Gurno Lake, a small, quiet lake, without a developed boat launch, and consequently, very little fishing pressure. On most days you’ll probably see more loons and eagles than people. We have provided life jackets, a three person canoe and two kayaks are the best way to explore the lake, and fish for walleye, largemouth, or crappies. We have great swimming as well there is a ladder off the dock to get in and out of the water.
Other things to note:
(4th of July 2023 booking will be Friday thru Tuesday ) Summer schedule check out is 9:00am due to the busy season ad allowing time for cleaning.
.If you would like to visit a public beach, we have a list of area beaches in the cabin.
The Neighborhood:
This is a quiet neighborhood and a lake that has no public access. We have many guests who enjoy the peacefulness our lake provides. Others get their big-water fix by trailering their boats a short distance to the nearby world-class lakes which surround us, including Round Lake, Lac Courte Oreilles (of world record Musky fame), the Chippewa Flowage, Sand lake and Grindstone which provide access to boat launch.
Getting Around: We're a short drive from the village of Hayward, and its many shops, restaurants, bars and essentials-markets, including a large grocery store (Market Place) and a Walmart. (GPS can lead you too Whispering Pines Court, make sure you are googling Whispering Pines Trail.) There are some fun activities to do around the Hayward area, Mini Golf, Horseback riding a movie theater in town and a petting zoo. ATV and snowmobile trails are easily accessed from our property, and can take you all over northwest . In the winter months you can take Highway 27 to Christie Mountain to go skiing or snow boarding about an hour away as well.
If you want to travel a bit further up north take Highway 77 towards Superior. Our favorite go to , Amnicon Falls Park for a nice picnic and hiking to see the five waterfalls Right before that is or Big Manitou Falls in Patterson Park. Duluth or Bayfield is about 1.5 hours drive from there for a more adventurous outing.

Fall Getaway
Great weekend with our 3 kids. They loved playing in backyard, having daytime bonfires and going out on the lake. A very peaceful area with a well stocked home that will have everything that you need. We even caught some fall fish! Would highly recommend.

Fantastic Home
Very warm and comfortable home. Home had everything you would need/want for your stay. Laid out well, labels to easily locate items in the house, welcome book provided good information on specifics related to the property. VERY clean and organized. There was a basket full of brochures on area attractions for eating/shopping/recreation etc. for all seasons. Would be a great place to stay for all 4 seasons!! Very much enjoyed our stay and would come back in a heartbeat!

Restful and Relaxing Experience
The cabin was a lovely place to kick back and just hang out together. One issue we found was that being in our mid-80s, we were not able to enjoy the water as we had anticipated. It was partly because the weather was either very very warm or rainy and cool. The bigger issue was that getting the canoe down the steep bank was not an easy task for the four of us. It would have been helpful to have a wench at the top of the bank to aid in the effort. We didn't try to take the kayaks down but probably would have made the effort if the weather had been a little more moderate. That said, we enjoyed our experience and can commend it to others. It would be a marvelous place to take children because younger people could easily manage the canoe and kayaks and there are many water toys for all to enjoy. We didn't have a campfire, again weather related but there is a marvelous campfire ring surrounded with good seating. Wood and marshmallow sticks are right there handy to us. This is a nice option in VRBO. The hosts were outstanding. We had such fine communication together.

Wonderful Getaway
The property was very clean and inviting. The hosts were on top of everything and quick to respond to any questions. As someone else commented, we saw more loons and eagles than people. We caught some nice largemouth bass right off the dock. The only (small) issue was, the stairs to the lake were a little challenging for two older people with bad knees. Other than that, I highly recommend Whispering Pines Hideaway.
