About the property

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths (Sleeps 7-8)

Beautiful Rocky Mountain Retreat is located halfway between Flagstaff and Williams, AZ at 7500 ft elevation surrounded by 3 secluded acres of tall Ponderosa Pines. This immaculate cabin is beautifully decorated and fully furnished with all the modern amenities. There are 2 bathrooms, two queen-size bedrooms, and a third room with a bunk bed with a full-size on the bottom and twin on top. There is also a pull-out queen sofa-bed. The kitchen is fully equipped with all the modern appliances you could need and full sets of serving and cooking utensils for entertaining. Free wireless internet is available (hopefully for fun not work :-). There is also a full-size washer and dryer. Hair dryers, curling irons and basic toiletries are included. There are plenty of cozy pillows and blankets . You can curl up in front of the stone fireplace and watch the wildlife outside. Rocky Mountain Retreat has all the comforts of home.

Outside the Cabin: The large wraparound deck is great for outdoor family meals. Then relax with some marshmallows around the campfire or watch the swaying trees or bright stars as you lay in the hammock. Children will love the tree house with slide and hammock, swing sets, horseshoes, or playing basketball in front of the 2-car garage. There is a huge selection of board games, videos and DVDs as well as 3 satellite TVs. Nearby hiking and off-roading trails abound. The Grand Canyon Deer Farm/Petting Zoo and Oak Hill Snowplay area (in winter), and Bearizona are only minutes away. There are several small lakes nearby, as well as the Lava Cave and breath-taking Sycamore Canyon hiking/rock climbing area. The area around our cabin is abundant with elk.

The Area: Rocky Mountain Retreat offers a true sense of being away from it all, yet the town of and Flagstaff with over 200 restaurants, great night life and shopping is only 20 mins away. The historic Route 66 town of Williams is only 10 mins away, where you can catch the Grand Canyon Railway or Polar Express (in winter). The Grand Canyon is a 60 min drive, and fantastic Oak Creek Canyon/ Sedona is about 45 mins. There are two downhill ski resorts 30 and 45 mins away and a cross country ski trail just a couple minutes away. Snowbowl resort is at 11,500 ft elevation and offers 32 trails of great skiing/snowboarding; in the summer you can take the skyride to the top for panoramic views that include the Grand Canyon, and fantastic hiking. Rocky Mountain Retreat has something for everyone. Why stay in a hotel room or rent a house in a subdivision when you can create the special memories of a real get-away vacation in the cool pines at Rocky Mountain Retreat!

About Dawn

My husband and I have always loved the mountains. He grew up in the city (Chicago), but I grew up in rural California camping in Yosemite most weekends with my parents, wonderful memories... We wanted to own a special mountain retreat where we could build our family memories while our kids were still young (the above picture is 13 years after we built our cabin ;). We love our time in the woods and our cabin has become very special to our family. We truly enjoy sharing our cabin with our guests.

Dawn purchased this cabin in 1999

Why Dawn chose Arizona

We searched a lot of mountain areas and decided that the Flagstaff area had the most to offer - beautiful pine tree covered mountains, close access to skiing, the Grand Canyon and Sedona, a great historic town with tons of restaurants and shopping, and temperatures 20-25 degrees cooler than Phoenix. The town of Flagstaff has a wonderful mix of small-town quaintness and great energy from the young university population. There are fantastic family-owned restaurants, coffee shops and boutiques, as well as all the convenient chain stores we're used to. We knew we wanted acreage with lots of trees (we have enough of 'subdivision life' in Phoenix). We found some beautiful land just 20 mins outside Flagstaff and built our cabin. It was a dream come true for us. We hope your family enjoys this peaceful getaway as much as we have!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We did have a great stay at Rocky Mountain Retreat. It was very comfortable and we had everything we needed. We especially loved the outdoor fire pit. We had a campfire in the snow and made snowmen at night. The kids thought that was really fun! If we come back to Arizona we will definitely stay again and we are telling our friends. Happy New year! Our family had an amazing stay here. The house is clean, well organized and incredibly organized for visitor, yet totally homey and comfortable. There was tons of snow & our kids made a sled path down the hill, playing for hours & having a total blast. They did not want to leave when it was time. The owner is charming to work with, the house is adorable & the grounds are georgeous. We all those this was the perfect place for us & would like to visit again in the summer. Thank you from my whole family!

We really enjoyed our snowy visit! We had 2 little ones who really enjoyed climbing around the property and I could see how a visit in the summer would be gorgeous in the shade of all the trees. Comfortable and clean home. Thanks to the very helpful owner!

Great Cabin in the woods

  • 5 of 5
Verified Stay

This was our 4th winter vacation staying at this cabin. Once again it was awesome! Our 2 kids loved riding on the sleds behind the house. Our timing was actually good since there was lots of snow. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook for 4 days. We even used the grill on the porch. The beds were comfortable. One day we made a campfire and roasted marshmallows Dawn left for us. The only thing that we wish were different was the location of the internet router. It is in the garage so the signal isn't the best when you are in the main living area. It is slower than we are used to because it is satellite internet but it was enough to be able to read news and check emails. But we knew that before we got there so we were prepared to disconnect some from the world. Overall, it was great! We will be back again next year!

Outstanding Property, Location and Owner

  • 5 of 5

I can't overstate how much my family and I enjoyed our stay and the property. Everything was as described and more. It truly embodied the feeling of a Rocky Mountain retreat. Every amenity was thought of and working. For those wanting seclusion and access to the trails of the national forest I don't think there a better location in the Flagstaff area. Dawn the owner was responsive anything prior, during and after our rental. She seemed more like a friend or family member than the owner of the property! I plan to rent often in the future and would highly recommend it!

Just what we needed! :)

  • 5 of 5

This property was exactly what our family needed. Having three young boys, we wanted areas for them to explore outside and a cozy interior to return to...and this cabin delivered. It felt very homey and relaxed, almost as if you were staying at a relative's house. The cabin was stocked with any necessity you should need included a fully stocked kitchen. We LOVED the Christmas tree that was awaiting our arrival. With the snow outside and the Polar Express train ride, it was a magical weekend. We hope to visit again in the Spring/Summer. Thanks again!
