Property Details

Updated: Oct 21, 2016
Ocean Front House, 2 Bdrm/2 Bath + Ohana Room, Sleeps 4-6. Great outdoor spaces.

Honu Hale Lanikai (Honu means turtle, Hale means house) is a simple and comfortable two bedroom oceanfront vacation home in beautiful Lanikai on the island of Oahu. Great for families. Honu Hale Lanikai has one of the very best locations in Lanikai, as it sits directly in front of the twin Mokulua Islands.

For Fall 2016 we are offering our LOWEST RATE EVER of $395/nt, plus every 7th night free! [If the VRBO system does not compute this correctly, please send an inquiry to us before finalizing your booking via VRBO.]

Honu Hale Lanikai has one bedroom/one bath in the main house and a large private bedroom and bath upstairs, which we call the Dolphin Suite. It can accommodate up to 6 people--2 each in the bedrooms and 2 on the queen futon bed in the living room.

See our YouTube video by clicking on the Video tab near the top of this page.

Honu Hale Lanikai location exactly in front of the Mokulua Islands provides endless hours of outstanding views from both bedrooms as well as the living room, dining room, backyard, side deck and even the upstairs bathroom. Easy access (a short stairway down to the ocean) means you can swim, snorkel, kayak, fish, etc. right from your yard. Your days are filled with the sounds of waves, trade winds blowing through the coconut trees and picturesque sailboats, kayakers and outrigger canoes going by. Lanikai provides a fun and healthy lifestyle in a friendly beach community. It's perfect for families as well as couples wanting a relaxed Hawaiian style home environment away from the busy and crowded resort areas.

Mahalo, Mahalo, Mahalo!

We came to this place for the wedding of our daughter, sister, and friend. It was perfect that we were all able to stay together in this beautiful house on the water. This excellent setting with the view of the 2 little islands, with the outriggers, kayakers, boaters and swimmers brought back the memories of the beautiful place that brought us all together, Palau, and that made us all family. ... We so enjoyed our early morning swims with the gorgeous sunrises. The colors from the sunsets were amazing. The stargazing incredible. All the neighbors were so kind and friendly. Most of all we enjoyed our daughter's, sisters's and friend's wedding that was a dream come true for us all. We made so may more beautiful memories here to share with one another and friends when we meet again.

Thank you so very much for the wonderful stay in your beautiful home. We had such a relaxing vacation here. The view is incredible and we loved the privacy! Our kids will never forget this experience, nor will we! Everything was just perfect--couldn't ask for a more accommodating home away from home.

Each day a coconut floats in from 'unknown' islands. Watching crabs (from a safe spot) walk along. Watching many bird or geckos, that's what I did.

Kevin Ross, age 10

Thanks for hosting our vacation! We loved the sunrises, Air Chair (we bought one for back home), hammock and the Internet for researching Luau times, etc. We really liked the upstairs. We loved taking pictures of the 2 islands and playing soccer in the backyard with a beach ball. The geckos were great and swaying palm trees were perfect in our pictures.

We hope to come back soon! The Ross/Wingavaer families

Absolutely Perfect with a Million Dollar View!

Our family of 4 spent 8 nights in this fantastic vacation rental this spring and enjoyed every minute of it. The location of the property is perfect, right on the water with stunning views of the Mokes where we watched the sunrise every morning. Right over the wall at the back of the house you have private access to the water. We rented kayaks in Kailua and kayaked down to the house and kept the kayaks for a few days. The pill box trail was about a 15 minute from the house - we did that hike four separate times since at different times of the day, the views from up there are amazing. The house had everything we could want, we loved that so many areas of the house were outside so we could enjoy the gorgeous Hawaiian weather. And the hammock, was just pure bliss. Kailua has everything you could possible want from shops to restaurants to Whole Foods and Longs Drugs. Lanikai Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Oahu. We have stayed on all the islands and in many locations on Oahu and this is the first time we have said that we would come back to a location, it was just perfect. If you are looking for a peaceful and beautiful house in the best location on Oahu, this is the place for you.

The most well stocked, well thought out home. Could not have asked for anything more unless John can control the weather! Truly an amazing property, no disappointment. It took us a day or two to adjust to the long driveway in our large car, but we soon mastered the navigation. Great location, amazing swimming and watch the sunrise each and every morning. We will never forget our vacation and would return gladly.

Peaceful Island Home

  • 5 of 5

If you want resort living and to be surrounded by shopping and hordes of tourists, this place is NOT for you. If you would like a place where you can stare out at the beauty of nature for hours on end while sipping your coffee in the morning, then I would definitely recommend this place! With the beach right in front of you, it is hard to want to leave the house. The view is incredible form both bedrooms and the spacious living room. There are four outside areas to hang out in (a side yard off the kitchen, the back yard, the lanai, and this cool little covered indoor/outdoor patio area. There is a beach three doors down in each direction if you get tired of your own personal beach. Turtles swim by! The snorkeling is also not bad. With 4 adults and a 5 month old, just the washer and dryer alone made this house worth it. The house is nice but not so nice that it does not feel like home. We did not want to leave!

We have found home in Lanikai!

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing place. Our family spent a week in this amazing home. If you are looking for simple and pure island living, this is your place. This is what heaven probably looks like. We had breakfast, dinner and lunch by the water. We swam with the turtles, puffer fish and the famous Humuhumunukunukuapua’a. We paddle boarded to the Mokes right from our backyard, did acrylic paints with the locals and practiced full moon yoga at the beach. Just a few of the activities available. The place has something for everyone. The owner was incredibly friendly and attentive to our needs. The neighbors (both locals) were welcoming. We are definitely coming back here! A happy family from Portland, OR

Incredible View, Awesome House, Perfect Location!

  • 5 of 5

I was fortunate to be able to stay at Honu Hale Lanikai with my Mother and 2 of her good friends for 2 weeks. I'm their designated's a dirty job but someone's go to do it! A few years back we stayed in Kailua and discovered Lanikai and we have been hooked ever since! Our family owns a cottage on a tiny island in The Bahamas and we know great beaches and Lanikai is among the BEST! So to be able to stay right there with that gorgeous water and the Mokes as our view was absolutely incredible!

The house is extremely well appointed and was very clean. It's amazing how many extras there are: beach chairs, boogie boards, noodles, outdoor furniture, plenty of extra towels (including beach towels) and sheets, everything for the kitchen even a salad spinner! We love to cook and a well stocked kitchen is so greatly appreciated. There is no dishwasher (not a worry at all for us!) but there is a washer and dryer. The photos of the house are very accurate and as far as the location description the only 'problem' is that the stairs down to the water seem to have deteriorated since the photo was taken. They are not easy to climb (very rough and slippery) so to gain access to the water you have to walk to the other side of the Paul Mitchell estate or 2 houses down the other way. Definitely NOT a big deal! Speaking of the Paul Mitchell estate, it is gorgeous and according to their website it rents for $7200-9300.00 per night and Honu Hale Lanikai has the exact same view!

To access the beach from the house, you can walk (it's about 1/4 mile) or drive there and park. Or you can do what I did a few times and walk or swim in the water, maybe you'll see a turtle! Kailua has 3 supermarkets, a Whole Foods and a Sunday morning Farmers Market, so it's very easy to get great produce. We got lucky a few times buying fresh fish along the way to Haleiwa, look for signs along the Kamehameha Hwy. Getting to Honolulu on the Pali is fast and easy. We went to the Academy of Arts that has a couple of wonderful exhibits, Art Deco in Hawaii and Natural Unnatural Supernatural. Lunch there is very good. Also we had lunch at the Hao Tree at the New Otani in Waikiki and it is awesome! The salmon eggs benedict was incredible.

We had an absolutely fabulous time. If you are considering a stay on Oahu, look no further. Honu Hale Lanikai is perfect!

Mahalo John for opening up your lovely home to us, we can't wait to come back.

I spent hours on this site researching the perfect holiday destination on Oahu. This was our first time using VRBO properties and we certainly hit the Jack Pot finding Honu Hale!

This was the most relaxing holiday ever in a homely character beach cottage located in the most private and stunning location.

Every vista on the property inside and out looks across to the Mokalua Islands, surrounded by crystal tourquoise seas! The sound of the waves lapping up on the sea wall combined with great weather and the balmy sea breeze puts you into relax mode as soon as you arrive here.

The home feels well loved and is very comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked, the ice maker was an added bonus as is all the neat crockery, linen, games, reading materials(which gives you an excellent insight of where to visit, except once you arrive here you don't want to go very far at all!) ,BBQ,hammock, loungers, lanai area, you are spoilt for choice or you can simply sit on the sea wall and watch the turtles swim by.We were all so excited to get the opportunity to feed and swim with these amazing creatures and all on our front doorstep!

Four of us shared the house and we loved being together as well as having our own space which is easy to have at Honu Hale. The Dolphin Suite is a self contained large studio and the pictures don't do justice to how it really looks and feels with a huge comfortable bed, soft carpeting, your own TV and music system if you require it!and lots of space, divine views! We slept with the blinds open to be greeted by the sun rise every morning before going down for our morning swim!

Our highlights were kayaking across to the islands and along the coastline, walking down to the Kalapawai cafe for our morning coffee, eating in as the Whole Food supermarket in Kaluia is excellent for organic produce.Eating out strongly recommend Buzz's just down the road as well as at the Grove restaurant/cafe in Kaluia.

John the owner was very accomodating and easy going as he kindly gave us a later departure time which we appreciated as we had a night flight back to NZ.,Thank you John and Roz for a truely wonderful holiday property and sharing this special place with us.It goes without saying we want to return.Aloha, Mahalo and give my love to the gorgeous Honu Hale turtles!!
