About Joe and Julie Russell
We are from Whitney, TX., where it is near 100 degrees sometimes for 2 months in the summer. We have taken our vacations in the Rocky Mountains for many years and have always wanted a place there. We have retired now and we will split our time between Texas and Colorado. We would love to share our place in the mountains with others when we can't be there.
Joe and Julie Russell purchased this House in 2008

We absolutely LOVED staying here. The house is wonderfully equipped and in a fabulous location. So much fun to watch the hummingbirds at the feeder and listen to the chipmunks talk. And the owners were so quick to respond to any questions I had. We would definitely come back.
Glad you enjoyed your stay! Hope you come back!
Excellent home to stay. Very peaceful, quiet and easy to find. Loved going hiking to St. Mary’s glacier a short distance from home. We will stay here again.
So glad you enjoyed your stay! Hope you come back!
Great mountain house
This property was ideal for our out-of-town family -- close enough to Denver yet far enough away to get the mountain feel. I was especially glad that the location from I-70 was before the Eisenhower Tunnel. The house was just as described, comfortable, clean, well stocked. The deck is the best part, looking back into the woods - until nighttime temps dropped, we spent all our time out there. We didn't see wildlife but we could hear the creek and the wind in the trees. We had hoped to do a bit of fishing in that creek (without getting into the car) but that wasn't possible. We wouldn't have changed our plans but it would be nice to know that a couple of neighbors are actually quite close. On our first day, we were listening to someone doing some serious electrical sanding for quite a long time. That being said, the property is still quite private and we didn't feel like anyone was too close for us to care about them or them to care about us. The owners are very responsive. We had a really nice few days.
Glad you enjoyed your stay! We are in a neighborhood but luckily our deck is very private!
Great cabin, would stay again!
The cabin was great, comfortable and clean. The dishwasher wasn’t working when we got there and we had to figure out how to get hot water in the kitchen. Other than that the weekend was perfect. It actually snowed on us 2 of the nights, we lit a fire and got cozy. The property was great, we even saw a moose off the back deck on our last night.
Glad you enjoyed your stay! So sorry about the dishwasher. Since you came in the same day our other guests left we were not able to replace it before you came in. We have a new dishwasher now! Not sure about the hot water comment, our maintenance people said they had no problem with the hot water.
Great, cozy little mountain house!
We stayed June 15th-21st. The house had everything we could possibly need & then some! The beds were very comfortable! The house was located in a quiet neighborhood, with neighbors on both sides & in front of the house, with trees surrounding both sides & the back of the property being open all the way to the creek, it felt fairly secluded. We saw a bull moose at least 5x just up the road from the house. The walk to the creek was wet, but easy (bring rubber boots) the creek was flowing like crazy - you could hear it from the house, it was beautiful.
We explored the Idaho Springs area quite a bit.
*Mt. Evans right outside of town - it was BEAUTIFUL, you could drive all the way up to the summit, $15/vehicle good for 3 days, cold & lots of snow when we were there but we loved it & saw a lot of wildlife, the lake was breathtaking
*St. Mary's Glacier was BEAUTIFUL! The parking lot is about 8 min from the house - $10 to park. It's a very rocky hike, but pretty easy. It took us about 45 min to complete the hike with 2-3 rest breaks. My 4 yr old completed the hike w/o difficulty
*Loch Lomond - we attempted this trail our last night as a last minute decision (not smart on our part) We drove as far as we could - the gate is locked until mid July due to weather, we attempted to hike the remaining 1.8 miles to the lake but were unsuccessful due to the amount of snow - we made it about 1.2 miles :( , it was up to my waist in a few areas, just wasn't doable with a 4 yr old. The pictures of it look amazing, so I recommend it if you have the proper attire or if you are there later
*Georgetown - 10 min from Idaho Springs - we rode the Loop Train, kind of $$ - $26/adult $20/child the ride lasts about 75 min - 4 yr old loved it, adults weren't sure if it was worth the cost or not. There is an awesome park in Georgetown. We also went up the Guanella Pass and to Clear Lake - another BEAUTIFUL spot with trails
*Beau Jo's - their mountain pie pizzas were AMAZING! Tommy Knockers was pretty good as well!
*Pikes Peak - took us about 2 hours to get there, it wasn't my favorite, we went on a Sunday and it was packed. It was also the most expensive at $15 per adult
*Estes Park/Rocky Mountain National Park - about 1.5 hours away, but so worth it! We saw a bear and 2 cubs, 10+ moose, 100+ elk; very beautiful place
We had an amazing time, the house was a cozy place to come home to after our adventures!
Sounds like you all had a lot of fun and took advantage of our central location! Thanks for the great review!!
Loved our Ski Getaway at this beautiful mountian home. Easy access to i70, Idaho Springs, 45 minutes from Loveland, an hour to ABasin/Keystone. Had a great time! Many thanks to our Hosts...
Glad you enjoyed your stay!!
