House, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)
I live in Alaska, but plan to move to this property when I reitre. I am very into the historical as well as natural wonders of this area. I hope you enjoy your stay at Magic Rock as much as I do.
KIM purchased this House in 2006
Why KIM chose Cortez
I've always been interested in archeology and native american history and culture specifically. My friends mother lives in the area and told me about this great property that was for sale. It has all the characteristics of the Hawkins Preserve(across the canyon) but is privately owed. I bought it site unseen and have not regretted my hasty action.
What makes this House unique
This property and the surrounding area are full of history, from the Anaszi Indians, to the first white settelers in the area. On this 35 acers you will find the original water supply for the town of Mitchell Springs, to the remains of a black smith shop, and Indian ruins. It is close to town approx. 1 mile to Main St. It is close to Sand Canyon which offers hiking, biking, and horse trails among the ruins of the Native Americans, want to go fishing, boating? no problem, not to brag but we are truley situated with in a hour of anything you want to do. Mesa Verde National Park can be seen from the door step of this home and is only 9 miles away,Historic Durango is a 1 hour drive, library, rec. center, parks, tennis courts are all in town here.

This the most peaceful place we have ever stayed. Our time was spent on decks watching the wildlife stop by & looking at the spectacular mountains. We also did a lot of exploring & appreciated the host’s interesting collections. There are more hiking & biking trails then a person could ever travel. Awesome place
I'm glad you enjoyed your time there.
Magic Rock is truely a magical place!
We loved Magic Rock. The property is magnificent. We loved being in Cortez as a base, and coming home to the private, wonderful house. We went hiking (we loved Mesa Verde but our favorite place was the Sand Canyon trail at the Canyons of the Ancients), mountain biking in the San Juan National Forest, kayaking in McPhee Reservoir (your can rent kayaks in Dolores), and coming home every night to Magic Rocks to walk the rocks on the property and relax. We would definitely come back.
Thanks for the kind words Susannah.
