About this property

The Stiles Historical Estate by RiNo Art District!

Welcome to the Stiles Historical Estate, which includes the Stiles African American Heritage Center next to the residence. Named after Retired Denver Public School teacher, historian, and philanthropist, Grace Stiles, the estate was created as an homage to Five Points and the rich culture of the largely African American population who once called this neighborhood home. The estate is not just for the history buff. It is for cultural explorers and social capital seekers—those who are looking for more than just a room in their next Airbnb stay. As the Five Points area rapidly changes, The Stiles Historical Estate is one of the few black-owned short-term rentals that take great pride in offering a unique historical experience that will be here forever.

Built in 1880, the home has plenty of character and has been tastefully renovated with the modern traveler in mind. Entering through the decorative “Stiles” original wrought iron gate, you’re welcomed by the jovial Venetian door.

The living area flows into the dining space divided by French doors, adding to the character and feel of the home. A 1938 Redlining Map of Denver is the highlight of the space, hung center above the robust dining table.

Enjoy the perks of a multifaceted kitchen configuration, accented with new stainless-steel appliances, a trendy subway tile backsplash, and beautiful wooden countertops for the chef of your group to enjoy.

Your ¾ bathroom can be found on the main level off from the kitchen, as well as an additional full bath on the upper level. All bedrooms can be found on the second floor as well. The 2 twins are located in the bedroom at the end of the hallway, and the California King and Queen bed in the other 2 bedrooms feature memory foam pillow-top mattresses, along with blackout light and sound-absorbing curtains for the weary traveler. A washer and dryer are also included for your convenience.

The home is filled with art from Thomas E. Lockhart, a multi-media artist whose spirit-driven process tells the unique stories of his art's inception. (To learn more, search for Thomas E. Lockhart Artist)

Spend your evenings out back on your secluded covered patio after a long day of exploring the city. This home is a wonderful stop to get to know Denver’s history and find plenty of entertainment only a block away.

The home has a central heat system for the winter months, plus an AC unit to cool down your stay on the hot Colorado days.

Guests will have access to the entire home - 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, washer/dryer, and patio.

Please no candles, incense, or smoking on the property. The roof is also off-limits to guests as it is very dangerous.

Nightlife, art galleries, and just a light rail ride away from the heart of downtown, this home is in the perfect spot to see it all! Be sure to catch a show at the Cervantes Ballroom just down the street during your stay.

You're minutes away from Mona's Cafe, known for its soul food, as well as Rosenberg’s Bagels and Delicatessen, known for its New York-style bagels. Don’t forget to stop in at Goed Zuur for a beer in the first sour-only taproom, and Dunbar Kitchen and Tap House for delicious food.

Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library is just down the street as well. Stop in to check out their art gallery and legacy museum.

Please Note: No pets, no parties, and no smoking is allowed in the home. This is not a party spot! Quiet hours are from 10 PM - 8 AM. Any noise violations or complaints from neighbors will result in immediate eviction and loss of your security deposit.

Cool historical place to stay
Everything was clean and had plenty of towels for 5 days. It was nice to have a guaranteed parking space as well!

Comfy place, great location!
We loved our stay at this property. It’s a unique opportunity to connect with the museum to which this house belongs. We received a private tour from our host, and enjoyed hearing the history of the area and the specific stories of the people represented at the small museum. The location was perfect to get to all of the activities of downtown Denver and the surrounding towns. Our family of five (three generations) was comfortable with the three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The house was immaculate and had good starter paper products and supplies. One suggestion would be to add a dresser to the queen bedroom, but otherwise, all was provided. A great convenience was the off-street parking for the rental property. Thanks for a great stay!

City getaway
The area was where we wanted to be. Close to where family is living. There was construction happening but, that was made known in the write up. We were gone most days so didn’t matter. Place was clean and had everything we needed. More towels would have been nice but there’s a washer/dryer. Beds weren’t the most comfortable but we had plenty of space for all 5 of us. The outside patio was not cleaned up enough for us so we did not use it. Would be a nice spot to sit and hang out if cleaned up. Volunteers working on the museum property were very friendly and doing a nice job getting things fixed up.
