Perfect for Carnaval!
Property was beautiful and the location is unbeatable. This is our second time attending the Winter Carnival in Quebec City and our first time at this property. It won't be the last for either of those as we'll be looking to book this property the next time we visit for Carnaval de Quebec. The property manager Dany was super helpful with the questions we had. Overall just a fantastic experience all around!

Perfect place to stay in old Quebec!
This was one of my favorite vacation rentals EVER!! First off, you can't beat the location, you're right in the middle of everything. The space itself is beautiful and very charming. Super cozy and super clean as well. The beds are comfortable and everything is well decorated. The host was nothing short of amazing! I cannot recommend this place enough. We will be back for sure! Thank you to our host!

Perfect space to explore Quebec City
We absolutely loved our stay at Maison Ursulines. The house is comfortable and spacious and was perfect for our group of friends enjoying a long weekend in Quebec City. To top it off, the location can't be beat. You are steps away from all the major attractions in Quebec City. Highly recommended.

Simply the Best
We had a wonderful stay at la Maison Ursulines. No description would be complete without saying the location is perfection. Steps away from most of the major attractions in the upper city and a quick walk down the hill to the lower city. That said - the rooms were quiet and no city noise intruded. The rooms themselves are wonderful and for such an older property, remarkably draft free, warm and cozy. Plenty of space for everyone in your group and with two bathrooms, there's no waiting for a sink or shower. We would love to stay here again and enjoy Quebec in a different season. Dany the host was outstanding and set us up with a walking tour in the city and was always available to help or answer questions. When minor issues were brought to his attention, he addressed them immediately (even when we told him there was no rush). We hope your stay is as wonderful as ours.

About the host

We spent our honeymoon here and fell completely in love with the Old City and it's residents ...very European in outlook and lifestyle with an underlying appreciation for the States. We then returned during the Winter Carnival (20 years ago) and found la Maison Ursulines.

Having been a design consultant for many, many years and with Cindy's highly successful career in real estate; we immediately knew how special la Maison Ursulines was.

It has become a wonderful get-away for us and our family. It has been our pleasure to open la Maison Ursulines to our friends, business associates, philanthropic causes and occasional vacation rental guests for 20 years.

The City of Quebec restricts vacation rentals in private residences, so the opportunity to stay at la Maison Ursulines is limited. We encourage you to inquiry early.

We look forward to you also enjoying all that la Belle Ville de Quebec has to offer with la Maison Ursulines being your "home base." Please don't hesitate to reach-out with any questions or suggestions.

Best wishes, Cindy, Paul and Dany

Why they chose this property

AWARDS
la Maison Ursulines has been prestigiously awarded by The WHSVRO (World Heritage Site Vacation Residence Organization), FlipKey, VRBO, Home Away and Tripadvisor for it's location, authenticity, amenities, décor, service and value.

These recognitions are particularly welcome because, unlike many other Quebec City vacation accommodations, la Maison Ursulines was not merely reclaimed as just another "New York City loft".

La Maison Ursulines' restoration / renovation brief included the paramount need to retain as much of the residence's historic character as possible.

The current Maison Ursulines is the third structure built by the Ursulines on this site. Some of the stone walls and wood-hued lintels (in the Sleeping Level) date back to the first structure built in the early 1600s.

THE RESTORATION / RENOVATION
The additional effort and expense needed to retain the building's original utility resulted in a residence that graciously includes the footprint and details of a centuries-old grand in-town residence while incorporating all the modern amenities.

A TEAM EFFORT
We are grateful to the City of Quebec's Architect of the Old City and his staff, the UNESCO WHSVR Organization and others for their help, understanding and appreciation of the difficulty in restoring and renovating a historically significant residence while melding the old and new together into a cohesive, inviting and functioning environment.

THE RESULT
Guests at la Maison Ursulines find themselves immersed in the surrounding UNESCO World Heritage Site while residing in a completely renovated residence that retains its historical roots ...in our opinion, the best of both worlds.

What makes this property unique

Restoration examples include:
- The full bath on the Sleeping Level was the residence's original "keep", where vegetables and foodstuffs were stored for the long winters. (The inset surrounding the vanity mirror was once access to the town home's kitchen ...now the master bedroom.)

- The master bedroom was once the town home's kitchen; the massive brick fireplace and hearth was carefully preserved.

- The residence's original living and formal dining room were restored and refined. (The living room's coal burning fireplace was once a rare extravaganza in Quebec.)

- The servant's stairway leading from the Grand Level to the Sleeping Level was lovingly preserved. (The carved pine banister dates back to one of the two earlier homes built on this site.)

- The Grand Residence's Grand Level hardwood floors are antique narrow-strip Canadian maple, dating back to the early 1800s and they too were carefully restored.

- Lintel beams dating back to the early 1600s in the Sleeping Level were carefully exposed and finished to their original condition (dating back to the original 1600s structure.)

- Long-covered stone walls on the Sleeping Level were repointed. Interior stone walls were also sealed ...a process not applicable to exterior facing walls.

- The Grand Level plaster cornice moldings dating back to the mid 1800s were carefully restored to their original Greek Revival designs.
