About this property

"THE HIDEOUT AT BUCK ISLAND"- private dock, ample parking, 5 min to City Harbour

NO EVENTS AND NO PARTIES STRICTLY ENFORCED

"The Hideout at Buck Island" is 35 minutes from downtown Huntsville, on the shoreline of Guntersville Lake, in a quiet cove just minutes to the main channel, with a private dock 100 feet from the back door. The home sits on a half-acre gently sloping lot with 180 feet of shoreline. The roomy 2400 square foot home with a screened in porch and a large deck provides ample room for guests to be comfortable with modern conveniences, while enjoying the wildlife that make frequent appearances including Bald Eagles, Osprey and Great Blue Herons.

The "Hideout at Buck Island" has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. Two of the bedrooms have adjoining private bathrooms. One of these has a Queen bed, the other one has a Queen bed and two twins. The third bedroom has 2 sets of bunk beds. The third bathroom is in a hallway across from the third bedroom. The home sleeps 10. The two upper bunks have side rails, and have a weight limit of 120 pounds and are not suitable for children under 5 years of age. All beds have memory foam mattresses purchased in 2022. All linens, bedding, and towels were purchased in 2022.

The kitchen is fully equipped to prepare and serve meals for groups of 10. The kitchen is stocked with cookware, bakeware, crock pot, hand mixer, blender, coffee pot, and grilling utensils. The sunroom has a table with seating for six and a second table with seating for four. The attached screened in porch has table seating for four, with an additional four seats. There is outdoor seating on the back deck.

There is a step down in the house. The kitchen, living room and one bedroom are on the same level. The sunroom that runs along the back of the house has a step down. Two of the bedrooms are entered through the sunroom, requiring a step down into the sunroom, and a step up.

The private dock is about 100 feet from the back of the house, and has decking 12 feet by 32 feet with a view towards the main channel. This cove is a favorite of the local fishermen and will be one of your favorite fishing holes too. Guntersville Yacht Club and Marina is across the channel at the mouth of the cove and enforces a strict no wake zone, which limits random boat traffic into the cove.

We also own and manage “SB Hideout,” a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom house that sleeps 7 and is only 300 yards away. Rent both houses to sleep 17.

There is a lot to do at The Hideout: play outdoor games, sit around the firepit, fish from the private dock, kayak in the cove, rent a 23 foot Searay ski boat (driver included). Contact host to make arrangements to rent the ski boat or for questions.

The closest boat launches are minutes away off Highway 431, a public launch just before the Veterans Memorial Bridge going into town and at Alred Marina Ramp. Other nearby boat launches can be found here: https://www.fishing.org/ramps/alabama/guntersville#.

In order to confirm a booking a completed and signed rental agreement is required within 24 hours. The rental agreement requires confirmation of the number of adults and children in the group, agreeing to the house rules, and providing a photo of the driver's license of the person signing the rental agreement. No third party bookings allowed. In no event shall the Rental Property be occupied by more persons than the capacity of the property as stated on the web site or the confirmation letter, without prior approval by Owner. Any visitors (even "day visitors") not included in the group size of your reservation MUST BE APPROVED PRIOR TO YOUR ARRIVAL DATE. No fraternities, school, civic, or other non-family groups are allowed unless Owner grants prior approval. Violations of these rules are grounds for expedited eviction with no refund of any kind and loss of the entire $500 security deposit. A damage deposit or damage protection insurance is required.

No smoking and no pets allowed on the property. The home is pet free in order to accommodate guests with pet allergies. Guests on the property are limited to those listed on the rental agreement. No additional overnight guests allowed at any time. Additional day guests require pre-approval. No parties or events allowed. These rules are strictly enforced. Failure to abide by these rules may result in immediate removal from the property and forfeiture of deposit and all monies paid to book the property.

The boathouse and garage are not accessible by guests. Guests have access to the private dock and can tie up a boat. Exterior cameras are installed on the property as part of a security system. Cameras provide surveillance of the driveway, the front door, and the approach to the boathouse from the water.

Guntersville Lake is Alabama's largest lake covering 69,100 acres with 900 miles of shoreline. Guntersville is ranked #2 out of the 100 Best Bass Lakes of the Decade by Bassmaster magazine and is a regular stop on several major tournament tours. Guntersville is also home to three sites on the North Alabama Birding Trail. There are many other activities in the area detailed in the "Things To Do" page including golf, cave tours, ziplining, hiking, and waterfall trails. The "Hideout at Buck Island" is 5 minutes to downtown Guntersville offering a wide variety of dining and shopping opportunities, including City Harbor opening in the Spring of 2022.

Family time
The house is easy to live in, with 3 bedrooms, and 3 baths. The bunk room with 4 bunks is close to a master bedroom so my sons family was together on one side of the house and my husband and I were on the other side of the house in the other master bedroom. There is also a couch/pull out bed in the back room that one of the boys slept on since he and his brother are used to having their own separate rooms. The kitchen was really well stocked with dishes, glassware, silverware, pots and pans, and utensils, and a good size frig. I was most impressed with seeing a lot of new plastic bowls with lids for left overs. That is rare. The property has only a slight slope down to the water. The dock is a short walk from the house. It’s on a quiet cove full of lots of bass. We caught bass from 1/2lb up to 8lbs. and didn’t have to go far away. We really enjoyed sitting on the screened in porch and the back deck while grilling. We appreciate the owners sharing their lovely home with us so we could spend time with our family. It was really nice.

About the host

Host profile image
I grew up Madison, AL and my husband grew up in a small town in Iowa. We met in Birmingham during our college years and moved to Fort Worth after college, thirty years ago. We return to North Alabama often and have loved spending time on Lake Guntersville. We have owned and self-managed a vacation rental in Fort Worth and are happy to now own and self-manage a home on the shoreline of Lake Guntersville.

Why they chose this property

We chose this property for many reasons. It is spacious enough for an extended family, with three bedrooms and large common areas, including a living room, sunroom, screened in porch, and deck overlooking the inlet. The quiet inlet provides opportunity for kayaking, bird watching, and simply relaxing. The decking around the boathouse is 32 feet by 12 feet providing ample room to fish or view the beautiful scenery.

What makes this property unique

The Hideout is one of the few vacation rentals with private lake access. Although the boathouse is not available to guests, guests may tie up a personal boat to the dock.

The Hideout is .3 miles from Highway 431, just 35 minutes to Huntsville, and 7 minutes to downtown Guntersville. Although the inlet is quiet and removed from the hustle and bustle of city life, there are many restaurants and grocery stores within 10 minutes. City Harbor is a new retail and restaurant destination just over the bridge into Guntersville and is accessible by land or water.

There are many outdoor activities within 30 minutes, including cave tours, hiking trails, waterfalls, boat rental, ziplining, winery and much more.
