Overview

About the property

One Bedroom, One Bath, Queen Sleeper in the Living Room, Full Kitchen.

308 is a one-bedroom apartment, approx. 500 sq. ft., perfect for a couple or up to four people using the sleeper sofa.

The red couch is an American Leather brand sleeper sofa with a solid foam mattress. It is a full queen so it sleeps two easily.

The living room has windows that look onto Pike Street, which is bustling with sights and sounds and interesting people to look at. People are out and about on Pike Street, especially on weekends.

The master bedroom has a very comfortable queen bed. The bedroom is in the middle of the apartment, so it's shielded from street noise.

The kitchen has a full sized gas stove, full sized fridge, a vented microwave and all the cookware and essentials.

We remodeled the bathroom in May of 2011, removing the old claw-foot tub and fixtures and installing a tile shower. There is now no bathtub in 308; the shower, however, has over five feet of space!

Please be aware that this is an urban environment. In our neighborhood you can expect to encounter people from all walks of life and hear noise, often late into the evening. If a silent outdoor environment is important to you, this part of Seattle may not be the best place for you to stay. That being said, St. John's is an incredible place to experience the city from, and we have security systems, triple-pane windows to reduce the street noise as well as white noise machines in the bedrooms to make sure you sleep easy.

Why Bryce Montgomery chose Central

St. John's is in the middle of Seattle, on Pike Street, right next to a large grocery store and surrounded by interesting shops and restaurants. It's in the middle of the most happening of all neighborhoods! There are three restaurants in the building, two more on our block, and dozens in the surrounding blocks. Plus there are lots of small stores and shops, lots of fun stuff. Two blocks away, for book lovers, is Seattle's oldest and best bookstore, Elliott Bay Books. It's a must see--a wonderful old building with a tremendous selection. And if you're into music, right next door to Elliot Bay Books is EveryDay Music, which is a huge music and video store. Got kids? Right across the street is Cal Anderson Park, jammed full of playing fields, sport courts and play areas with swings and such for the young ones. All in all ours is a great location!

Guestbook comments from the manager

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here in this cozy home away from home. And what a great location! We walked to Pike's Place Market where we were able to buy fish and vegetables for a delicious home-cooked meal. We also walked to the water to catch the ferry to Bainbridge Island. We felt like we were in a great location to access everything we wanted to go do, and we got to return to "our neighborhood" to relax afterward. We hope to be back again.

Thanks so much!

Great apt. in a fine and funky building

  • 5 of 5

This place is nothing short of great! We LOVED our stay here. We would (hopefully, will) return here again, with no hesitation. Would highly recommend it to friends and family. The apt. is just as depicted here in its posting. It was very comfortable and cozy for the 2 of us, but could have easily accommodated another one or two. All entrances are well-lighted and secured throughout the property, making safety while coming/going a non-concern. Note, however, that although this is a beautifully renovated 3-story mixed-use building, it was built in the early 20th century and, as such, it does not have an elevator. The walk up 2 flights of stairs is enjoyable, due to the funky and fascinating way the interior common areas of the building are decorated, but you should be prepared for it in accessing this neat little 3rd floor flat.

The building is located in what could charitably , but honestly, be described as a "lively" neighborhood. Do not mistake that for unsafe, though. As 60+ seniors, we felt very safe walking throughout the area, at all times of the day and night. There is a fully-stocked supermarket (QFC) literally across the side street from your doorstep. There are also so many good restaurants, bars, shops, and coffee shops in this neighborhood that they are too numerous to list. See all the great things around the Seattle area, but be sure to leave some time to explore this eclectic area of Capitol Hill. Excellent breakfasts are to be found at Oddfellows Cafe, Cafe Pettirosso, or Quinn's Pub. Great burgers are served at Cafe Pettirosso and 8oz. Burger. And, if you're a fan of coffee/tea/chocolate, you might enjoy walking west down Pike Street to take a look around the Starbucks Reserve Roastery. We recommend them all!

We were happy to find that some review comments about street noise were not, in fact, reflective of our experience. The apartment's screen-covered front windows above E. Pike Street. are double-paned and vinyl-framed, holding the warmth in and shutting the street noise out. This was even true on a busy Friday and Saturday night. They opened and closed with ease, and locked in position.

Lastly, we've just got to comment on the mattress on the bed. It is more comfortable, and my wife and I slept better on it, than the one we own at home! It's been a long time since we woke up feeling that refreshed.

A little home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

My daughter was traveling in SE Asia for several months and upon coming back to the States, I wanted her to feel a bit of the cozy warmth of home. St. John's Apts were a good choice! I loved the 1930's architecture with it's hardwood floors, wide base boards, etc. The apartment was clean, renovated and FAR better than staying at a hotel. Management was great. Since my daughter had been in tropical weather she had no gear for the winter in Seattle. I arranged for a package to be shipped to the apartment and management worked with me so the package was waiting on her arrival. They were very welcoming to us during our stay. Easy walk downhill to the Pier and there are fun little restaurants, bars, a grocery store and a huge Starbucks near the apartment. We left and went to Canada. On our way back, we spent one more night and in that moment it did feel like we were home again.

Sweet Stay

  • 5 of 5

Had to get back to my youth as this neighborhood is party central. Being loud at midnight to 2am are my only complaints. The AC worked well and drowned out the noise. The accommodations were perfect. We walked in only 20 minutes to the Pike St. Market to buy sea-food and cooked in our well-equipped kitchen. Johnny and Christine were awesome.

First time in Seattle

  • 5 of 5

Love the apartment. It is spacious, comfortable. Only issue is 3 flight up. It is definitely not suitable for people with weak legs especially with big pieces of luggage to drag onto the 3rd floor. Otherwise, I love it. I will love to visit with my children again.

It will be great if more information provided for bus services around. We see buses but do not know where the stops are.

St. John's....A great Value

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I enjoyed our stay in the apartment. The room had a nice old-time feel to it. It was fully and nicely furnished. The WI-FI and parking were nice perks. There are easily a dozen restaurants within 100 yards of the apt with a full fledged grocery store across the street. The kitchen was cozy...yet fully functional. Downtown is within easy walking distance (10-15 min)...although the walk back will be more difficult (uphill). The neighborhood has a young 20-something vibe to it.

The only (minor) downsides were the VERY basic cable (no ESPN or national cable news) and the couple of homeless people lingering around the grocery store.
