About Maureen Cain/Brad Barco
I lived in this house until 2010. I am a retired registered nurse and teacher and enjoy boating, reading, gardening, arts and crafts, cooking, and relaxing with family and friends.
Maureen Cain/Brad Barco purchased this House in 1988
Why Maureen Cain/Brad Barco chose Portsmouth
I spent many a glorious summer day swimming and boating from the shore. As an adult, the drawing factor is the beauty of the water and the great diversity of water fowl and the fact that stress just melts away as soon as you arrive home. The sunrises, evening skies, twinkling light on the water from the Moon, and sea breezes are a plus, too! Even the impending change of the weather, easily seen across the water, is awesome.
What makes this House unique
This home is a stress reliever. The direct waterfront and panoramic views impart a cruise-like feeling. It is so easy to hop in a kayak and explore the shore line. Portsmouth, itself, is a laid back, non-congested town (usually) and still you have easy access to roads and highways leading to Newport, Bristol, Providence, Boston, Cape Cod, etc.

We book all different places for our girls getaway twice a year. This was the cleanest and most well equipped of all the places we have stayed over the years. Beautiful location with easy travel to restaurants and Newport. Maureen has thought of everything and her attention to detail is impeccable!
Thank you so much for your great review. You and your group were outstanding guests, on all levels: communication, cooperation, leaving the home in good condition, etc.. You are most welcome back, anytime.
The best ever!!!!!
We have stayed in many VRBO's around the world and this is heads and shoulders above them all. We were a group of six and the house was perfect for us. It was immaculate. Stocked with everything anyone would need. The deck is 30 feet from the waters edge with beautiful sunrises every morning. Great places to eat nearby. We can't wait to go there again! Thank you Maureen for a wonderful stay!
Thank you! For being such a lovely group, for communicating so clearly, for leaving the home in such great condition, and for being the type of guests that make hosting so rewarding.
Review of water front
Location is near restaurants
Very varied neighborhood- waterfront is nice but the rest is not what we were expecting
Owners live next door, and are very needing to know a lot about whom the renters are and what their background is. Also lots of rules to follow in house, but none are hard. Things like if over 200 pounds don’t use these chairs.
Overall clean and functional, we had no hot water for the first 36 hours but than realized that the hot water heater was turned down very low. Nice amenities as far as things like fire pit, kayaks, pool table.
Would come back again.
Wow! We don't really know how to respond to this.
First of all, Bonnie's stay was August 31st to September 3rd, not October.
We "BEG", yes "BEG" guests to tell us us about problems and concerns IMMEDIATELY... in the Lease, in the Welcome Binder, and in personal interactions. As Bonnie said, we live next door. What could possibly be the excuse for Bonnie to wait six (6) days AFTER checkout to notify us about a hot water problem and then mention it in a review? It was something that could have been resolved in minutes... assuming it even existed. I checked with the guests who left the morning of Bonnie's check-in and, quote, they "had no hot water issue". I also washed clothes with hot water without any problem and our large gas hot water heater recovers quickly.
Before booking, Bonnie wanted special considerations regarding staying many hours past usual check out time and other reduction in fees.
Then, soon after, we were surprised to be notified there was a first dog. Then, suddenly, there was a second dog, I asked the standard questions I always asked EVERY guest about their dog, important questions, about vaccinations, flea/tick control, etc... less than ten questions, requiring a YES or NO response. As a result, I received a very lengthy, UNSOLICITED response about specialized training, past history of accidents, behavior in the work place, past vacations, exercise schedule, and on and on.
Bonnie's "perceptions" about us needing to know about guests' background are unfounded. Her perceptions may revolve around our reasonable questions about the dogs. Never... ever... do we ask about guests' backgrounds.
Bonnie's perceptions regarding the "lots of rules" is confusing. Our rules include, but are not limited to, safe use and location of amenities such as the fire pit, fire extinguishers, kayaks, appliances, recycling, and, yes, which chairs are safe for big and tall. How could this possibly be perceived as a problem?
Family get away
The location and accommodations were perfect for our family. Maureen and Brad are wonderful hosts
Thank you. Hope you'll come back to beautiful RI, real soon , and stay with us, again!
Positive in every way
Here just a partial list:

• One of the best rental experiences we've had
• Short drives to many attractions (the Whaling Museum in New Bedford is awesome)
• Pet friendly which was a must!

RI has great food! And you'll find the best among local restaurants, diners, and take out. Within approx. 0.6 mile there are the following: 15 Point Road, our favorite, which overlooks a marina and beautiful water views; Local Z and Flo's Seafood (in season) with outdoor seating overlooking the water; Shultzy"s (in season) with it's hamburgers and ice cream right across from a beach; Graciano's, popular for breakfast and lunch; and Ultimate and Beachcomber Sports Bars with a touch of fun, excitement, and games for all ages.
Try restaurants recommended by a popular travel site towards Newport area: Mooring and Castle Hill on the water, Rosemary and Thyme Cafe, Brick Alley Pub ( a favorite of ours ), and others in Bristol, Warren, and Tiverton, (many waterfront). The Boathouse in Tiverton is a favorite!
For children activities, try Save the Bay Exploration Center and Aquarium, Battleship Cove, Roger Williams Park and Zoo, Fall River Children's Museum and Providence Children's Museum, a favorite, and Portsmouth Community and Island Park Playgrounds, or let them just enjoy the water activities at the waterfront of the home...
