Villa Solo Bueno - Jungle Covered Mountain overlooking Pacific Ocean

Overview

Property Details

Updated: Jul 23, 2016
2 master bedrooms 2.5 bathrooms, sleeps 5, private plunge pool

Villa Solo Bueno means 'All is Well' and you will see why when you visit our little slice of heaven. Located on the side of a jungle-covered mountain almost every room in our villa has a fabulous view of the Pacific. Immediately adjacent to a green belt on the top tier of the Canto del Mar (Song of the Sea) gated community, it is safe, secure, and rich with wildlife.

Overwhelm your senses. Turn off the a.c. and open the windows and doors. Hear the call of the toucans and howler monkeys. Fall asleep to the sounds of the dink frogs and the waves lapping the shore below. Smell the fragrant aroma of the Ylang Ylang tree, inspiration for Chanel No. 5 perfume. Take a cool dip in your private plunge pool. Have some fun trying to spot our resident three-toed tree sloth, white-faced monkeys or toucans in the trees above – all commonly seen from the patio of our villa.

Area Activities: You will be amazed at the variety of adventure so close at hand. Horse back riding to secluded water falls with breakfast and lunch included; hiking, nature photography; pristine white water rafting on class III and IV rapids where you won't see anyone else all day, includes breakfast and lunch; zip lining through the jungle; ocean kayaking; exploring sea caves; snorkeling; scuba diving; and of course salt water fishing.

If you are a surfer, or wish to try it, we can connect you with surf instructors. The surf at Playa Dominical (4 km north) can get over 10' depending on swell conditions. The surf at Playa Dominicalito, a 10 minute walk down from our villa, is ideal for learning with waves to 5+ ft. depending on swell conditions. Playa Hermosa, located about 10 km south, is also very popular. Boogie boarding is widely enjoyed at these beaches, although the rip tides at Playa Dominical make it unsafe for inexperienced swimmers during low tide.

Area Birding: Costa Rica is only about the size of West Virginia, yet has more than 830 species of birds. If you are a serious birder, Costa Rica is the pinnacle adventure. The owners are life-long birders and can help you with resident guides so that you will spot many of the 350 species in our immediate area. If you are driving to Dominical from San Jose, we can also tell you where you will have a good chance of seeing the Resplendent Quetzal along the way.

One note of caution about Villa Solo Bueno - the Chestnut Billed Toucans might interrupt the occasional siesta as they communicate with each other in the trees above.

Area restaurants : There are dining options in the area to suit every pallet and budget; From funky surfer shacks that serve a great breakfast on the Dominical beach to more upscale French/Canadian, Italian and fresh seafood restaurants serving fabulous fresh food al fresco style. A list of our favorites is kept in the villa for your reference and our on-site concierge can make the reservations, if needed.

Dear Catherine,

Sorry, I did not get back to you earlier.

We just came back from our Costa Rica vacation Sunday night.

I would like to thank you very much for letting us stay in your gorgeous house in Domenicalito. It was the perfect place for us to stay; the house is equipped with everything you could possibly need and it is in great condition. We enjoyed the beautiful view, the daily cleaned pool, friendly staff, the sloth in the tree, monkeys, birds, and other wild life, local food as well as the great beaches. My kids loved boogie boarding ad were catching waves until their tummies hurt.

We had a wonderful, relaxed time and hope to come back one day.

Hopefully you and your family had a great trip to Europe and enjoyed your stay there.

Best,

Kristin

Absolutely stunning!

  • 5 of 5

When you look at a picture showing the view from the patio you might remark something like, "amazing" however, pictures just can not begin to captivate the true feelings you have as you look out over this view. I kept staring, hoping to imprint the view on my minds eye the so I would never forget the emotion this view evokes. Not only is the view outside stimulating but the small details inside make you feel very much at Home. Catherine Lundberg has put her heart and sole into making this place into a home in paradise. This is a place I would retunr to over and over again!

A Dream Location

  • 5 of 5

Villa Solo Bueno was exactly what I was hoping for. The description on the website, the pictures and the reviews all pointed to a beautiful villa with an amazing view in a quiet community. Check, check, check. But when we first opened the front door and walked in and actually saw the view, we were blown away. From almost every room, there was the view to great us. And it was delightful to catch the view at different times of the day. Low tide, high tide brought a few surfers, sunset and dawn. I confess to rising each morning before dawn to make my coffee and sit on the deck to listen to the surf, the waking birds and watch the light change.

I can only 'second' what others have said about the condition of the villa. It was pretty, clean and uncluttered. I appreciated the two housekeeping women who came everyday to tidy-up. And the location of the villa is toward the top of the road/driveway and is situated to seem completely private. We think it has the best location in the Canto del Mar development.

We love this part of Costa Rica. I last visited in 2007 and was pleased to see that Dominical and the south coast had not changed that much. Of course, the road from Quepos to Dominical is now paved and there are improved restaurants and services but the coast remains unspoiled. There were times we were the only people on the beach watching the sunset. Sunset from Dominicalito beach was an event almost everyday for us. Catherine provided us with lots of other wonderful suggestions for things to do. We walked to the waterfall, hiked Hacienda Baru (twice), visited several beaches, ate at wonderful restaurants (Por Que No, Citrus, Mono Congo, Tortilla Flats) and cooled off in the villa's pool. One recommendation - we are interested in history and enjoyed a visit to the Finca 6 Archaeology Museum near Sierpe. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014 and honors the pre-Columbian peoples. It includes an interesting new museum and a walk (bring water) to see the spheres.

Great villa, gorgeous views, wonderful Costa Rica!

Beatiful mountain Villa with breathtaking ocean view. Nature right at your front door.

  • 5 of 5

We were impressed from the moment we arrived. The house was very spacious and beyond our expectations. We walked into the house and the first thing we saw was a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean.

The owner of the house, Catherine was so helpful and easy to work with. She always responded to our e-mails immediately and she provided us with insightful information about what to do, where to eat and little tips on how to make this a trip to remember. The concierge, Alexandre was also great. Alexandre helped us to book restaurants during the busy holiday vacation week. Alex also helped us book our day trips to a zip line/nature hike at Hacienda Baru where we had a private group for our family of 4 with 2 guides. Alex also arranged our whitewater rafting (with a local snack and local lunch) and Mangrove kayaking which was booked with Dominical Surf Adventures. We also enjoyed a horseback riding mountain tour to a waterfall (also with breakfast & lunch) booked with Don Hulo's Horseback tours.

One of the best things to take advantage of is the pre-trip shopping list to have the house stocked with breakfast foods, snacks, the best pineapple's you can eat and beverages. Vacationing at it's best! The house was a pleasure to come back to at the end of the day to relax on the patio looking at the ocean with a cold cocktail and a refreshing dip in the pool. Right outside the front door we saw the local frogs and from the driveway we saw the monkeys.

The house was large and the furnishings were right out of a decorators showroom. The bedrooms were comfortable and the bathrooms (1 in each bedroom) were huge. The house was spotlessly clean and with the housekeeping services it stayed that way.

If there is one thing we can pass along it is not to over pack. We wore shorts and bathing suits during the day and all the restaurants at night are extremely casual. We even took advantage of the washer & dryer in the house.

The house has a huge DVD library and the satellite TV even gets a few Miami TV stations (everything else is in Spanish). The house has indoor & outdoor speakers so all you need to do is plug in your ipod, have a cocktail and enjoy the local "Pura Vida".

If there was one thing that was a bit of an issue it was the driveway up the mountain to the house. It is a winding, rocky dirt road which is steeper than any road you can imagine. Four-wheel drive is a must not an option!

We definitely felt very safe and secure in this gated community......

Como Bueno is wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

Our family enjoyed our time in this lovely villa. The location is excellent to allow exploring the Dominical area. The villa's concierge, Alex, was a tremendous help in organizing our excursions which included hiking to zip lines, horseback riding to a waterfall, paddle boarding in the mangroves and boating to a snorkeling site. We had 2 days without specific plans allowing us to explore and relax on out own. The excursions were located between 5 and 20 minutes from the villa, so we did not need to spend a lot of time in the car.

In addition, the villa is well equipped, beautifully designed and decorated, clean and comfortable. I highly recommend this property and hope to return again next year.

A Little Piece of Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for low-key rest and relaxation in an unbelievably gorgeous setting, Villa Solo Bueno is your paradise! We had such an amazing time, we are returning in January. The photos do not do the villa justice! It is absolutely as well-maintained, well equipped, and beautiful as advertised. We worked with Catherine to secure our reservation and she was wonderful! She gave us activity and restaurant tips which did not disappoint! You must have at least one dinner at Por Que No. Delicious food, great service, and a beautiful view made it our favorite. One thing to note about Dominical in general, accommodations are not beach front. This particular villa has a sweeping view of the Pacific and is about a 10 minute walk down to the beach. The road up to the villa is steep and unpaved so 4-wheel drive is a must (as it is in a lot of Costa Rica). We walked to the beach, but if you want to avoid the trek up the hill back to the villa, parking at the beach is not a problem. We booked our activities through Dominical Surf Adventures (ocean kayaking, whitewater rafting, zip lining, surfing lessons) and they were fantastic! The guides and instructors at Surf Adventures are pros!! Costa Rica is a big country with many amazing things to see and do. Before we spent our week at the Villa we spent a week exploring the inland rainforests and volcanos of Poas, Arenal, and Monteverde. I highly recommend visiting this area if you have the time. Day trips from Dominical to these areas are not really feasible. Travel by car is slow in most of Costa Rica as the roads are narrow, winding, and sometimes unpaved. Best wishes to you for fabulous stay at Villa Solo Bueno. Pura Vida!

Memorable Costa Rican Vacation at Villa Solo Bueno

  • 5 of 5

Our family enjoyed a beautiful stay at Villa Solo Bueno. The villa's owner and the Tekoa concierge were helpful in the planning of our trip, and even suggested a mercado on our way from San Jose when they learned of our gluten allergies. We arrived after dark to a clean, well-maintained and nicely appointed villa. Access was via a steep but easily negotiated gravel road in our rented small SUV. We awoke to a breathtaking view of a Pacific cove framed by lovely flowers and lush trees. Many hours were spent relaxing on the veranda and enjoying this little piece of paradise in paradise. Our son enjoyed surfing with a locally rented board while our daughter used one of the boogie boards stored at the villa. A favorite adventure was the zip-lining canopy tour with Santuario Tours out of Manuel Antonia National Park. We were pleased to discover a few excellent restaurants tucked away on back roads within 30 minutes of the villa. Costa Ricans have a lovely spirit and this was a perfect family vacation.

Location

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Quepos - regional at 45 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : Costanera Hwy (34) at 1 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : La Parcela at 1 Kilometres Nearest Beach : Playa Dominicalito at 1000 Metres Car: recommended

With soaring secondary growth trees overhead and fabulous views of the Pacific 100 meters below, Villa Solo Bueno is built on a ridge in the Fila Costena...where the mountains meet the sea. Now that the Costanera highway (the Hwy 1 of Costa Rica) is complete, we are a quick 30 minutes south of Quepos, where Manuel Antonio National Park is located. We enjoy the natural beauty of our famous neighbor, but travelling south you will find a laid back, much more authentic Costa Rica.

Centrally located, the Dominical area is the perfect base for exploring Manuel Antonio National Park, Ballena Marine National Marine Park, Hacienda Baru and the Osa Peninsula ('the most biologically intense area on the planet' as cited by National Geographic). At Villa Solo Bueno you will truly come to understand the meaning of the words, Pura Vida.

Other Activities: surfing, white water rafting, horseback-riding, deep sea fishing, birding, wild life guided hikes, boogie boarding
